Artificial fireball generation via an erosive discharge with tin alloy electrodes

We propose a method for generation of long-living autonomous fireball-like objects via a pulse erosive discharge between tin alloy electrodes. The objects are similar to the natural ball lightning in some properties, in particular, they have high energy density and are capable to burn through thin metal foils. The dynamics of the objects are studied using high speed videorecording. During their lifetime the fireballs generate aerogel threads. The studies of their structure by scanning electron microscopy reveal the presence of tin oxide nanoparticles and nanowhiskers.

Investigation of Space-Time Structure of the Discharge with an Electrolytic Anode and Face-Type, Air Half-Space Directed Cathode (Gatchina's Discharge)

Despite of its limited capabilities for ball-lightning modeling, the chemically active dust plasma of electric discharges is a very interesting physical object. Gatchina's discharge, which gives a possibility to study the dust-gas fireball, represents a complex non-stationary process, combining the creation and the destruction of relatively long-living high-enthalpy microscopic states with non-ideal dust plasma and with a gas-dynamic form, resulting in appearance of a spherical luminous object. In the present work we studied spatial structure of the discharge and its dynamics with the help of electric and optical measurements.

Optical Spectra of the High Voltage Erosive Water Discharge

In the present paper kinetics of emission spectra of the high voltage erosive water discharge at near ultraviolet and visible spectral ranges has been investigated. Obtained results show a similarity of physical properties of this discharge (and of corresponding plasmoids) to that of some other types of erosional discharges which also result in the formation of dust-gas fireballs.

Ferroelectricity in confined small particles

The influence of the pore network geometry and interparticle long-distance electric coupling on the ferroelectric phase transition in small particles embedded into mesoporous matrices is considered. It was shown that the temperature of the ferroelectric phase transition in a system of electrically linked particles can be well different from that in isolated small particles. In particular, the model suggests an explanation for the weakening of size-effects on the ferroelectric phase transition in confined geometry.

Long-living plasmoids generation by high-voltage discharge through thin conducting layers

A new type of pulse high voltage electric discharge through a thin conducting layer on the surface of glass plate has been investigated. The afterglow plasma of this discharge forms quasi-spherical object with a lifetime about 0.2-0.3 s. Electric properties of the objects were studied by electric probe method. Measurements of plasma radiation spectra kinetics at visible and near ultraviolet spectral ranges have been carried out. Comparative analysis of the physical properties of the plasmoids appearing in this discharges and of ones generated via thin metal wires burning is given. Possible mechanism of the plasma metastability are discussed.

The Dust-Gas Fireball as a Special Form of the Electric Erosive Discharge Afterglow

Main results of researches of the electric erosive discharge afterglow plasma, of the fireballs being formed by this plasma and having some particular but deep similarities to the ball lightning are given. The analysis of our results and results of some other authors has allowed to specify the nature of radiation and stability of the shape for a dust-gas chemical fireball, to make series of assumptions concerning the mechanism of these properties. The experimental results and considerations of the given work can be interesting for physics of plasma with different kinds of condensed state, for an ascertainment of the chemiluminescence mechanism of the flame, as well as for a bead lightning understanding and for improvement of ball lightning laboratory analogues.

Influence of K, Mg and Fe impurities on the composition, absorption spectra and photovoltaic properties of LiNbO_3 crystals

Photovoltaic response and optical spectra of lithium niobate crystals (LN) grown from K_2O-containing melt and/or doped with Mg and Fe have been studied. It has been found that growing of LN crystals at the presence of K_2O-flux, Mg-doping and increasing of Li/Nb ratio have influence on the physical properties of the crystals, which evidences approaching of the composition of these crystals to the stoichiometric one.

Physical conditions of the ball lightning ejection caused by interaction of electrical discharge with metal and polymer

Physical conditions of formation of the ball lightning with high energy density considered as condensate of heavily excited atoms have been studied. In our approach the ball lightning formation processes is considered as a form of energy-structure self-organi-zation on the base of metastable substance and interchange. We propose different variants of the experimental method to create autonomous formation on the base of the closed capillary discharge allowing to obtain the objects with the life time up to 2s which burn through the foil, explode and can penetrate through the polymer wall without destroying it.

Erosive radially-slotted discharge in sheet current mode

New non-stationary non-contracted form of the erosive radially-slotted discharge as a thin round sheet with the current of the azimuth direction have been discovered, its existence beings stipulated by a radial transport-wave fluxes. Characteristic features of this discharge is self-confinement of the discharge current magnitude, corresponding decrease of the current pulse duration and occurrence of an energy and substance ejection with rather unusual properties. Measurements of kinetics of the discharge current, the plasma radiation intensity and an electrical probe signal, as well as the transmission electron microscope investigations of characteristic aerodisperse aggregates arising the erosive phase, have been carried out. The probe signal duration was about 10 times greater than that of the current; its kinetics was complicated suggesting existence in the slot of two components with fundamentally different properties and states of the substance.

Q-pseudodifference Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction for algebra of complex size matrices

The q-deformed version of the Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction is extended to the case of the algebra of 'complex size matrices'; this construction generalizes earlier results of B.Khesin and F.Malikov on universal DS reduction and follows the pattern of recent studies of q-deformed DS reduction which were started by E.Frenkel, N.Reshetikhin and one of the authors.
