Density of states of a 2D system of soft--sphere fermions by path integral Monte Carlo simulations

The Wigner formulation of quantum mechanics is used to derive a new path integral representation of quantum density of states. A path integral Monte Carlo approach is developed for the numerical investigation of density of states, internal energy and spin--resolved radial distribution functions for a 2D system of strongly correlated soft--sphere fermions. The peculiarities of the density of states and internal energy distributions depending on the hardness of the soft--sphere potential and particle density are investigated and explained. In particular, at high enough densities the density of states rapidly tends to a constant value, as for an ideal system of 2D fermions.

Screening properties of quark-gluon plasma obtained from distribution and correlation functions of the constituent quasiparticle model

Based on the constituent quasiparticle model of quark-gluon plasma (QGP), the matrix elements of the density operator and the Wigner function in the color phase space are presented in form of color path integrals over Wiener and SU(3) group Haar measures. Monte Carlo calculations of quark and gluon momentum distributions and spatial pair distribution functions have been carried out for the strongly coupled QGP plasma in thermal equilibrium at zero baryon chemical potential. The Debye screening mass and the running coupling constant have been obtained from the spatial pair distribution function and are in agreement with the available lattice QCD data. At densities related to the average interparticle distance more than 0.4 fm the gluon bound states in the form of glueballs have been found. Comparison with the Maxwell Boltzmann distribution shows significant influence of interparticle interaction on high energy asymptotics of the momentum distribution functions, resulting in appearance of quantum tails. The new color pair correlation function has been introduced, and related new color screening mass has been discussed.

Ehrenfest time in the weak dynamical localization

The quantum kicked rotor (QKR) is known to exhibit dynamical localization in the space of its angular momentum. The present paper is devoted to the systematic first--principal (without a regularizer) diagrammatic calculations of the weak--localization corrections for QKR. Our particular emphasis is on the Ehrenfest time regime -- the phenomena characteristic for the classical--to--quantum crossover of classically chaotic systems.

Weak dynamical localization in periodically kicked cold atomic gases

Quantum kicked rotor was recently realized in experiments with cold atomic gases and standing optical waves. As predicted, it exhibits dynamical localization in the momentum space. Here we consider the weak localization regime concentrating on the Ehrenfest time scale. The later accounts for the spread-time of a minimal wavepacket and is proportional to the logarithm of the Planck constant. We show that the onset of the dynamical localization is essentially delayed by four Ehrenfest times and give quantitative predictions suitable for an experimental verification.

Nonlinear conduction of sliding electronic crystals: Charge and Spin Density Waves

A model of local metastable states due to the pinning induces plastic deformations allows to describe the nonlinear I-V curves in sliding density waves -DW. With increasing the DW velocity v, the metastable states of decreasing lifetimes ~1/v are accessed. The characteristic second threshold field is reached when configurations of shortest life time are accessed by the fast moving DW. Thus the DW works as a kind of a ``linear accelerator'' testing virtual states.

Strong Pinning and Plastic Deformations of the Vortex Lattice

We investigate numerically the dynamically generated plastic deformations of a 3D vortex lattice (VL) driven through a disorder potential with isolated, strong pinning centers (point-like or extended along the field direction). We find that the VL exhibits a very peculiar dynamical behavior in the plastic flow regime, in particular, topological excitations consisting of three or four entangled vortices are formed. We determine the critical current density $j_c$ and the activation energy for depinning $U_c$ in the presence of a finite density of strong pinning centers.
