Resonant cavity-QED with chiral flat bands

Flat bands exhibit high degeneracy and intrinsic localization, offering a promising platform for enhanced light-matter interactions. Here, we investigate the resonant interaction between a two-level emitter and a chiral flat band hosted by a photonic lattice. In the weak coupling regime, the emitter undergoes Rabi oscillations with a lifted photonic mode whose spatial structure reflects the nature of compact localized states and the onset of Anderson localization. We show that weak hopping disorder induces a delocalization of the lifted mode whereas the effective emitter-field coupling strength, and the associated mode volume experienced by the emitter, remains protected against structural fluctuations. We illustrate our approach using selected flat band lattices. Our findings provide a route to flat band state preparation via quench dynamics and robust cavity-QED control.

Flat-band quantum communication induced by disorder

We show that a qubit transfer protocol can be realized through a flat band hosted by a disordered $XX$ spin-1/2 diamond chain. In the absence of disorder, the transmission becomes impossible due to the compact localized states forming the flat band. When off-diagonal disorder is considered, the degeneracy of the band is preserved but the associated states are no longer confined to the unit cells. By perturbatively coupling the sender and receiver to the flat band, we derive a general effective Hamiltonian resembling a star network model with two hubs. The effective couplings correspond to wavefunctions associated with the flat-band modes. Specific relationships between these parameters define the quality of the quantum-state transfer which, in turn, are related to the degree of localization in the flat band. Our findings establish a framework for further studies of flat bands in the context of quantum communication.

Non-Rayleigh signal of interacting quantum particles

The dynamics of two interacting quantum particles on a weakly disordered chain is investigated. Spatial quantum interference between them is characterized through the statistics of two-particle transition amplitudes, related to Hanbury Brown-Twiss correlations in optics. The fluctuation profile of the signal can discern whether the interacting parties are behaving like identical bosons, fermions, or distinguishable particles. An analog fully developed speckle regime displaying Rayleigh statistics is achieved for interacting bosons. Deviations toward long-tailed distributions echo quantum correlations akin to non-interacting identical particles. In the limit of strong interaction, two-particle bound states obey generalized Rician distributions.

Discrete-time quantum walks generated by aperiodic fractal sequence of space coin operators

Properties of one dimensional discrete-time quantum walks are sensitive to the presence of inhomogeneities in the substrate, which can be generated by defining position dependent coin operators. Deterministic aperiodic sequences of two or more symbols provide ideal environments where these properties can be explored in a controlled way. This work discusses a two-coin model resulting from the construction rules that lead to the usual fractal Cantor set. Although the fraction of the less frequent coin $\rightarrow 0$ as the size of the chain is increased, it leaves peculiar properties in the walker dynamics. They are characterized by the wave function, from which results for the probability distribution and its variance, as well as the entanglement entropy were obtained. A number of results for different choices of the two coins are presented. The entanglement entropy has shown to be very sensitive to uncover subtle quantum effects present in the model.

How the site degree influences quantum probability on inhomogeneous substrates

We investigate the effect of the node degree and energy $E$ on the electronic wave function for regular and irregular structures, namely, regular lattices, disordered percolation clusters, and complex networks. We evaluate the dependence of the quantum probability for each site on its degree. For bi-regular structures, we prove analytically that the probability $P_k(E)$ of finding the particle on any site with $k$ neighbors is independent of $E$. For more general structures, the dependency of $P_k(E)$ on $E$ is discussed by taking into account exact results on a one-dimensional semi-regular chain: $P_k(E)$ is large for small values of $E$ when $k$ is also small, and its maximum values shift towards large values of $|E|$ with increasing $k$. Numerical evaluations of $P_k(E)$ for two different types of percolation clusters and the Apollonian network suggest that this feature might be generally valid

Mott Insulator to Superfluid Phase Transition in Bravais Lattices via the Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard Model

The Properties of the Mott insulator to superfluid phase transition are obtained through the fermionic approximation in the Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard model on linear, square, SC, FCC, and BCC Bravais lattices. For varying excitation number and atom-cavity frequency detuning. We find that the Mott lobes and the critical hopping are not scalable only for the FCC lattice. At the large excitation number regime, the critical hopping is scalable for all the lattices and it does not depend on the detuning.

The influence of the Kerr effect in Mott insulator to superfluid transition from the point of view of the Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard model

We have studied the Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard model for a chain with the Kerr effect (nonlinear optical effect) through fermionic approximation. We have observed that the Kerr effec does not cause major changes in the energy spectrum. However, the phase transition properties from Mott insulator to superfluid undergoes significant changes due to the Kerr effect.

Generalizing Planck's distribution by using the Carati-Galgani model of molecular collisions

Classical systems of coupled harmonic oscillators are studied using the Carati-Galgani model. We investigate the consequences for Einstein's conjecture by considering that the exchanges of energy, in molecular collisions, follows the Lévy type statistics. We develop a generalization of Planck's distribution admitting that there are analogous relations in the equilibrium quantum statistical mechanics of the relations found using the nonequilibrium classical statistical mechanics approach. The generalization of Planck's law based on the nonextensive statistical mechanics formalism is compatible with the our analysis.

Flatband localization in the Anderson-Falicov-Kimball model

The insulator-metal-insulator transition caused by a flatband is analyzed within dynamical mean-field theory using the Anderson-Falicov-Kimball model. We observe quantitative disagreement between the present approach and previous results. The presence of interactions enhances delocalization.

Anderson localization on Falicov-Kimball model with next-nearest-neighbor hopping and long-range correlated disorder

The phase diagram of correlated, disordered electron systems is calculated within dynamical mean-field theory for the Anderson-Falicov-Kimball model with nearest-neighbors and next-nearest-neighbors hopping. The half-filled band is analyzed in terms of the chemical potential of the system using the geometric and arithmetic averages. We also introduce the on-site energies exhibiting a long-range correlated disorder, which generates a system with similar characteristics as the one created by a random independent variable distribution. A decrease in the correlated disorder reduces the extended phase.

Stability of the entropy for superstatistics

The Boltzmann-Gibbs celebrated entropy $S_{BG}=-k\sum_ip_i \ln p_i$ is {\it concave} (with regard to all probability distributions $\{p_i\}$) and {\it stable} (under arbitrarily small deformations of any given probability distribution). It seems reasonable to consider these two properties as {\it necessary} for an entropic form to be a {\it physical} one in the thermostatistical sense. Most known entropic forms (e.g., Renyi entropy) violate these conditions, in contrast with the basis of nonextensive statistical mechanics, namely $S_q=k\frac{1-\sum_ip_i^q}{q-1} (q\in {\cal R}; S_1=S_{BG})$, which satisfies both ($\forall q>0$). We have recently generalized $S_q$ (into $S$) in order to yield, through optimization, the Beck-Cohen superstatistics. We show here that $S$ satisfies both conditions as well. Given the fact that the (experimentally observed) optimizing distributions are invariant through {\it any} monotonic function of the entropic form to be optimized, this might constitute a very strong criterion for identifying the physically correct entropy.
