New representations for square-integrable spheroidal functions

We discuss the solution of boundary value problems that arise after the separation of variables in the Schrödinger equation in oblate spheroidal coordinates. The specificity of these boundary value problems is that the singular points of the differential equation are outside the region in which the eigenfunctions are considered. This prevents the construction of eigenfunctions as a convergent series. To solve this problem, we generalize and apply the Jaffe transformation. We find the solution of the problem as trigonometric and power series in the particular case when the charge parameter is zero. Application of the obtained results to the spectral problem for the model of a quantum ring in the form of a potential well of a spheroidal shape is discussed with introducing a potential well of a finite depth.

Restrictions on pp scattering amplitude imposed by first diffraction minimum data obtained by TOTEM at LHC

We present the systematic analysis of the behavior of elastic pp scattering cross section in the region of the diffraction peak and the first diffraction minimum in the framework of quasi-eikonal Gribov-Regge approach, taking into account the unitarity condition. We use the formalism taking into consideration the dependence of pomeron signature factor on $t$. We show that although in this approach one can describe the general features of pp scattering, the behavior of pp elastic differential cross section in the vicinity of the first diffraction minimum measured by the TOTEM experiment at LHC can not be reproduced under any parameter values at standard assumptions of the model. Physically, in the quasi-eikonal Regge approach the proton proved to be "gray" and rather large, whereas the TOTEM data indicate that it is smaller and closer to "black" at LHC energies.

Correlation between mean transverse momentum and multiplicity of charged particles in $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ collisions: from ISR to LHC

We present our analysis of the available experimental data on correlation between mean transverse momentum and charged particles multiplicity ($\langle p_T \rangle$-$N_{ch}$) at central rapidity in $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ from 17 GeV to 7 TeV. A multi-pomeron exchange model based on Regge-Gribov approach provides quantitative description of $\langle p_T \rangle$-$N_{ch}$ correlation data and their energy dependence. Results are found to be in agreement with string fusion model hypothesis.
