An observation of the $f_0(1710)$ meson in the $ωϕ$ system in the Pion-$Be$ Interaction at Momentum of 29 GeV

The charge-exchange reaction $π^-p \rightarrow n\,ω(783)ϕ(1020)$, $ω\rightarrow π^+π^-π^0$, $ϕ\rightarrow K^+K^-$ is studied with the upgraded VES facility (U-70, Protvino) in the interaction of a 29 GeV pion beam with a beryllium target. The distribution over the invariant mass of the system $M_{ωϕ}$ shows a near-threshold signal. A partial wave analysis reveals that the scalar state ($J^{PC}=0^{++}$) dominates in this mass region. The observed signal can be described with a contribution of the known resonance $f_0(1710)$. Using OPE approximation for the reaction $π^-p \rightarrow n\, f_0(1710)$ the product of branching fractions is found to be: $Br(f_0(1710)\rightarrow ππ)\cdot Br(f_0(1710)\rightarrow ωϕ) = (4.8 \pm 1.2) \cdot 10^{-3}$.

Magnetic-Field-Dependent Stimulated Emission from Nitrogen-Vacancy Centres in Diamond

Negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond are promising quantum magnetic field sensors. Laser threshold magnetometry has been a theoretical approach for the improvement of NV-centre ensemble sensitivity via increased signal strength and magnetic field contrast. In this work we experimentally demonstrate laser threshold magnetometry. We use a macroscopic high-finesse laser cavity containing a highly NV-doped and low absorbing diamond gain medium that is pumped at 532nm and resonantly seeded at 710nm. This enables amplification of the signal power by stimulated emission of 64%. We show the magnetic-field dependency of the amplification and thus, demonstrate magnetic-field dependent stimulated emission from an NV-centre ensemble. This emission shows a record contrast of 33% and a maximum output power in the mW regime. These advantages of coherent read-out of NV-centres pave the way for novel cavity and laser applications of quantum defects as well as diamond NV magnetic field sensors with significantly improved sensitivity for the health, research and mining sectors.

Letter of Interest for a Neutrino Beam from Protvino to KM3NeT/ORCA

The Protvino accelerator facility located in the Moscow region, Russia, is in a good position to offer a rich experimental research program in the field of neutrino physics. Of particular interest is the possibility to direct a neutrino beam from Protvino towards the KM3NeT/ORCA detector, which is currently under construction in the Mediterranean Sea 40 km offshore Toulon, France. This proposal is known as P2O. Thanks to its baseline of 2595 km, this experiment would yield an unparalleled sensitivity to matter effects in the Earth, allowing for the determination of the neutrino mass ordering with a high level of certainty after only a few years of running at a modest beam intensity of $\approx$ 90 kW. With a prolonged exposure ($\approx$ 1500 kW*yr), a 2$σ$ sensitivity to the leptonic CP-violating Dirac phase can be achieved. A second stage of the experiment, comprising a further intensity upgrade of the accelerator complex and a densified version of the ORCA detector (Super-ORCA), would allow for up to a 6$σ$ sensitivity to CP violation and a 10$^\circ$-17$^\circ$ resolution on the CP phase after 10 years of running with a 450 kW beam, competitive with other planned experiments. The initial composition and energy spectrum of the neutrino beam would need to be monitored by a near detector, to be constructed several hundred meters downstream from the proton beam target. The same neutrino beam and near detector set-up would also allow for neutrino-nucleus cross section measurements to be performed. A short-baseline sterile neutrino search experiment would also be possible.

Study of eta pi- production by pions in the Coulomb field

The production of eta pi - system at low mass by the pi- beam in the Coulomb field of Be nuclei was studied. The cross section of the reaction pi- Be --> eta pi- Be was compared to the experimental data on the decay eta --> pi+ pi- gamma and to the theoretical predictions.
