A purely analytic derivation of Bonnet surfaces

Bonnet has characterized his surfaces by a geometric condition. What is done here is a characterization of the same surfaces by two analytic conditions: (i) the mean curvature $H$ of a surface in $\mathbb{R}^3$ should admit a reduction to an ordinary differential equation; (ii) this latter equation should possess the Painlevé property.

Réductions d'un système bidimensionnel de sine-Gordon à la sixième équation de Painlevé

We derive all the reductions of the system of two coupled sine-Gordon equations introduced by Konopelchenko and Rogers to ordinary differential equations. All these reductions are degeneracies of a master reduction to an equation found by Chazy "curious for its elegance", an algebraic transform of the most general sixth equation of Painlevé.

General solution of the exceptional Hermite differential equation and its minimal surface representation

The main aim of this paper is the study of the general solution of the exceptional Hermite differential equation with fixed partition $λ= (1)$ and the construction of minimal surfaces associated with this solution. We derive a linear second-order ordinary differential equation associated with a specific family of exceptional polynomials of codimension two. We show that these polynomials can be expressed in terms of classical Hermite polynomials. Based on this fact, we demonstrate that there exists a link between the norm of an exceptional Hermite polynomial and the gap sequence arising from the partition used to construct this polynomial. We find the general analytic solution of the exceptional Hermite differential equation which has no gap in its spectrum. We show that the spectrum is complemented by non-polynomial solutions. We present an implementation of the obtained results for the surfaces expressed in terms of the general solution making use of the classical Enneper-Weierstrass formula for the immersion in the Euclidean space $\mathbb{E}^3$, leading to minimal surfaces. Three-dimensional displays of these surfaces are presented.

Structural equations of supermanifolds immersed in the superspace $\mathcal{M}^{(3\vert2)}(c)$ with a prescribed curvature

The aim of this paper is to construct the structural equations of supermanifolds immersed in Euclidean, hyperbolic and spherical superspaces parametrised with two bosonic and two fermionic variables. To perform this analysis, for each type of immersion, we split the supermanifold into its Grassmannian components and study separately each manifold generated. Even though we consider four variables in the Euclidean case, we obtain that the structural equations of each manifold are linked with the Gauss--Codazzi equations of a surface immersed in a Euclidean or spherical space. In the hyperbolic and spherical superspaces, we find that the body manifolds are linked with the classical Gauss--Codazzi equations for a surface immersed in hyperbolic and spherical spaces, respectively. For some soul manifolds, we show that the immersion of the manifolds must be in a hyperbolic space and that the structural equations split into two cases. In one case, the structural equations reduce to the Liouville equation, which can be completely solved. In the other case, we can express the geometric quantities solely in terms of the metric coefficients, which provide a geometric characterization of the structural equations in terms of functions linked with the Hopf differential, the mean curvature and a new function which does not appear in the characterization of a classical (not super) surface.

Supersymmetric formulation of the minimal surface equation: algebraic aspects

In this paper, a supersymmetric extension of the minimal surface equation is formulated. Based on this formulation, a Lie superalgebra of infinitesimal symmetries of this equation is determined. A classification of the one-dimensional subalgebras is performed, which results in a list of 143 conjugacy classes with respect to action by the supergroup generated by the Lie superalgebra. The symmetry reduction method is used to obtain invariant solutions of the supersymmetric minimal surface equation. The classical minimal surface equation is also examined and its group-theoretical properties are compared with those of the supersymmetric version.

A cohomological approach to immersed submanifolds via integrable systems

A geometric approach to immersion formulas for soliton surfaces is provided through new cohomologies on spaces of special types of $\mathfrak{g}$-valued differential forms. This leads us to introduce Poincaré-type lemmas for these cohomologies, which appropriately describe the integrability conditions of Lax pairs associated with systems of PDEs. Our methods clarify the structure and properties of the deformations and soliton surfaces for the aforesaid Lax pairs. Our findings also allow for the generalization of the theory of soliton surfaces in Lie algebras to general soliton submanifolds. Techniques from the theory of infinite-dimensional jet manifolds and diffieties enable us to justify certain common assumptions of the theory of soliton surfaces. Theoretical results are illustrated through $\mathbb{C}P^{N-1}$ sigma models.

Reductions of Gauss-Codazzi equations

We prove that conformally parametrized surfaces in Euclidean space $\Rcubec$ of curvature $c$ admit a symmetry reduction of their Gauss-Codazzi equations whose general solution is expressed with the sixth Painlevé function. Moreover, it is shown that the two known solutions of this type (Bonnet 1867, Bobenko, Eitner and Kitaev 1997) can be recovered by such a reduction.

Conditional symmetries and Riemann invariants for inhomogeneous hydrodynamic-type systems

A new approach to the solution of quasilinear nonelliptic first-order systems of inhomogeneous PDEs in many dimensions is presented. It is based on a version of the conditional symmetry and Riemann invariant methods. We discuss in detail the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of rank-2 and rank-3 solutions expressible in terms of Riemann invariants. We perform the analysis using the Cayley-Hamilton theorem for a certain algebraic system associated with the initial system. The problem of finding such solutions has been reduced to expanding a set of trace conditions on wave vectors and their profiles which are expressible in terms of Riemann invariants. A couple of theorems useful for the construction of such solutions are given. These theoretical considerations are illustrated by the example of inhomogeneous equations of fluid dynamics which describe motion of an ideal fluid subjected to gravitational and Coriolis forces. Several new rank-2 solutions are obtained. Some physical interpretation of these results is given.
