Generalized Universality of Definite Rank Gluon Transverse Momentum Dependent Correlators

Transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton correlators describing the partonic structure of hadrons contain gauge links, required by color gauge invariance. The required gauge links enter in the matrix elements that contain the parton fields and depend on the color flow in the hard process. The correlators are expanded in terms of transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions, referred to as TMD PDFs, or in short TMDs. In this paper, we introduce gluon TMDs of definite rank, by making an expansion of the TMD gluon correlator with the help of irreducible tensors built from the transverse momenta. The process dependence is isolated in gauge link dependent gluonic pole factors multiplying the TMDs. It is important to account for the different possibilities in the color structure within the matrix elements, leading to multiple TMDs at a given rank. In this way we are able to write the leading tree level result for a hard process in terms of process dependent gluon correlators which are expressed in a finite set of universal TMDs. We tabulate the gluonic pole factors for various gauge links, among them those that are relevant for 2 to 2 processes.

Universality of Quark and Gluon TMD Correlators

Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs), in short referred to as TMDs, also take into account the transverse momentum (pT) of the partons. Just as the pT-integrated analogues we want to link them to quark and gluon matrix elements using Operator Product Expansion methods in QCD, involving operators of definite twist. The TMDs also involve operators of higher twist, which are not suppressed by powers of the hard scale, however. Using the expression for TMDs involving nonlocal matrix elements of quark and gluon fields there is a gauge link dependence, which also introduces an inherent process dependence. Using transverse moments, which are specific pT-weightings, we can establish the link with quark and gluon fields including the higher twist ones. We introduce (a finite number of) universal TMDs of definite rank and show how the process dependent TMDs can be written as combinations of these universal functions.

Systematic study of magnetic linear dichroism and birefringence in (Ga,Mn)As

Magnetic linear dichroism and birefringence in (Ga,Mn)As epitaxial layers is investigated by measuring the polarization plane rotation of reflected linearly polarized light when magnetization lies in the plane of the sample. We report on the spectral dependence of the rotation and ellipticity angles in a broad energy range of 0.12-2.7 eV for a series of optimized samples covering a wide range on Mn-dopings and Curie temperatures and find a clear blue shift of the dominant peak at energy exceeding the host material band gap. These results are discussed in the general context of the GaAs host band structure and also within the framework of the k.p and mean-field kinetic-exchange model of the (Ga,Mn)As band structure. We find a semi-quantitative agreement between experiment and theory and discuss the role of disorder-induced non-direct transitions on magneto-optical properties of (Ga,Mn)As.

Universality of TMD distribution functions

We introduce transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) for gluons with definite rank. The rank refers to the azimuthal dependence corresponding to the tensorial structure in transverse momenta multiplying universal functions only depending on $x$ and $p_T^2$. In this way only a finite number of functions of definite rank remains for a target with the maximal rank depending on its spin. Gauge links, required for color gauge invariance, enter in the explicit description of the matrix elements corresponding to these TMDs and account for their process dependence. In this way a general gauge link dependent function is expressed in the universal set, where all process (i.e. gauge link) dependence is isolated in gluonic pole factors multiplying the universal TMDs of definite rank.

Universality of TMD distribution functions of definite rank

Transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distribution and fragmentation functions are described as Fourier transforms of matrix elementscontaining nonlocal combinations of quark and gluon fields. These matrix elements also contain a gauge link operator with a process dependent path, of which the process dependence that can be traced back to the color flow in the process. Expanding into irreducible tensors built from the transverse momenta $p_\st$, we can define a universal set of TMD correlators of definite rank with a well-defined operator structure.

High Precision Magnetic Linear Dichroism Measurements in (Ga,Mn)As

Investigation of magnetic materials using the first-order magneto-optical Kerr effects (MOKE) is well established and is frequently used in the literature. On the other hand, the utilization of the second-order (or quadratic) magneto-optical (MO) effects for the material research is rather rare. This is due to the small magnitude of quadratic MO signals and the fact that the signals are even in magnetization (i.e., they do not change a sign when the magnetization orientation is flipped), which makes it difficult to separate second-order MO signals from various experimental artifacts. In 2005 a giant quadratic MO effect - magnetic linear dichroism (MLD) - was observed in the ferromagnetic semiconductor (Ga,Mn)As. This discovery not only provided a new experimental tool for the investigation of in-plane magnetization dynamics in (Ga,Mn)As using light at normal incidence, but it also motivated the development of experimental techniques for the measurement of second-order MO effects in general. In this paper we compare four different experimental techniques that can be used to measure MLD and to separate it from experimental artifacts. We show that the most reliable results are obtained when the harmonic dependence of MLD on a mutual orientation of magnetization and light polarization plane is used together with the in-situ rotation of the sample followed by the magnetic field-induced rotation of magnetization. Using this technique we measure the MLD spectra of (Ga,Mn)As in a broad spectral range from 0.1 eV to 2.7 eV and we observe that MLD has a comparable magnitude as polar MOKE signals in this material.

Recent developments in the shell model Monte Carlo approach to nuclei

The shell model Monte Carlo (SMMC) approach provides a powerful method for the microscopic calculation of statistical and collective nuclear properties in model spaces that are many orders of magnitude larger than those that can be treated by conventional methods. We discuss recent applications of the method to describe the emergence of collectivity in the framework of the configuration-interaction shell model and the crossover from vibrational to rotational collectivity in families of rare-earth nuclei. We have calculated state densities of these rare-earth nuclei and find their collective enhancement factors to be correlated with the pairing and shape phase transitions. We also discuss an accurate method to calculate the ground-state energy of odd-even and odd-odd nuclei, circumventing the sign problem that originates in the projection on an odd number of particles. We have applied this method to calculate pairing gaps in families of isotopes in the iron region.

Generalized universality of higher transverse moments of quark transverse momentum dependent correlators

The color gauge-invariant transverse momentum dependent (TMD) quark correlators contain process dependent gauge links in the bilocal matrix elements. In this paper, we split these process dependent correlators into universal TMD correlators, which in turn can be parametrized in universal TMD distribution functions. The process dependence is contained in gluonic pole factors, of which the value is determined by the gauge link. The operator structures of the universal TMD correlators are identified using transverse moments. In this paper, specific results for double transverse weighting of quark TMDs are given. In particular, we show that for a spin 1/2 target one has three universal time-reversal even leading `pretzelocity distributions', two of which involve double gluonic pole matrix elements and come with process dependent gluonic pole factors. We generalize the results for single and double weighting to TMD correlators of any specific rank, illustrating it for unpolarized, spin 1/2 and spin 1 targets.

Single Spin Asymmetry in e+p^\uparrow -> e+J/ψ+X

We report on a recent investigation of the single spin asymmetry (SSA) in low virtuality electroproduction of $J/ψ$ in color evaporation model. We show that this can be used as a probe for the still unknown gluon Sivers function.

First high power pulsed tests of a dressed 325 MHz superconducting single spoke resonator at Fermilab

In the recently commissioned superconducting RF cavity test facility at Fermilab (SCTF), a 325 MHz, β=0.22 superconducting single-spoke resonator (SSR1) has been tested for the first time with its input power coupler. Previously, this cavity had been tested CW with a low power, high Qext test coupler; first as a bare cavity in the Fermilab Vertical Test Stand and then fully dressed in the SCTF. For the tests described here, the design input coupler with Qext ~ 106 was used. Pulsed power was provided by a Toshiba E3740A 2.5 MW klystron.

Crossover in Growth Law and Violation of Superuniversality in the Random Field Ising Model

We study the nonconserved phase ordering dynamics of the d = 2, 3 random field Ising model, quenched to below the critical temperature. Motivated by the puzzling results of previous work in two and three di- mensions, reporting a crossover from power-law to logarithmic growth, together with superuniversal behavior of the correlation function, we have undertaken a careful investigation of both the domain growth law and the autocorrelation function. Our main results are as follows: We confirm the crossover to asymptotic logarithmic behavior in the growth law, but, at variance with previous findings, the exponent in the preasymptotic power law is disorder-dependent, rather than being the one of the pure system. Furthermore, we find that the autocorre- lation function does not display superuniversal behavior. This restores consistency with previous results for the d = 1 system, and fits nicely into the unifying scaling scheme we have recently proposed in the study of the random bond Ising model.

Fusion of $^{6}$Li with $^{159}$Tb} at near barrier energies

Complete and incomplete fusion cross sections for $^{6}$Li+$^{159}$Tb have been measured at energies around the Coulomb barrier by the $γ$-ray method. The measurements show that the complete fusion cross sections at above-barrier energies are suppressed by $\sim$34% compared to the coupled channels calculations. A comparison of the complete fusion cross sections at above-barrier energies with the existing data of $^{11,10}$B+$^{159}$Tb and $^{7}$Li+$^{159}$Tb shows that the extent of suppression is correlated with the $α$-separation energies of the projectiles. It has been argued that the Dy isotopes produced in the reaction $^{6}$Li+$^{159}$Tb, at below-barrier energies are primarily due to the $d$-transfer to unbound states of $^{159}$Tb, while both transfer and incomplete fusion processes contribute at above-barrier energies.

Growth Law and Superuniversality in the Coarsening of Disordered Ferromagnets

We present comprehensive numerical results for domain growth in the two-dimensional {\it Random Bond Ising Model} (RBIM) with nonconserved Glauber kinetics. We characterize the evolution via the {\it domain growth law}, and two-time quantities like the {\it autocorrelation function} and {\it autoresponse function}. Our results clearly establish that the growth law shows a crossover from a pre-asymptotic regime with "power-law growth with a disorder-dependent exponent" to an asymptotic regime with "logarithmic growth". We compare this behavior with previous results on one-dimensional disordered systems and we propose a unifying picture in a renormalization group framework. We also study the corresponding crossover in the scaling functions for the two-time quantities. Super-universality is found not to hold. Clear evidence supporting the dimensionality dependence of the scaling exponent of the autoresponse function is obtained.

Twist Three Distribution f_\perp(x,k^\perp) in Light-front Hamiltonian Approach

We calculate the twist three distribution f_\perp(x,k^\perp) contributing to Cahn effect in unpolarized semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. We use light-front Hamiltonian technique and take the state to be a dressed quark at one loop in perturbation theory. The 'genuine twist three' contribution comes from the quark-gluon interaction part in the operator and is explicitly calculated. f_\perp(x,k^\perp) is compared with f_1(x,k^\perp).

Generalized Parton Distributions for the Proton in Position Space : Non-Zero Skewness

We investigate the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) for u and d quarks in a proton in transverse and longitudinal position space using a recent phenomenological parametrization. We take nonzero skewness ζand consider the region x> ζ. Impact parameter space representation of the GPD E is found to depend sharply on the parameters used within the model, in particular in the low x region. In longitudinal position space a diffraction pattern is observed, as seen before in several other model

Scaling Behavior of Response Functions in the Coarsening Dynamics of Disordered Ferromagnets

We study coarsening dynamics in the ferromagnetic random bond Ising model in d = 1; 2. We focus on the validity of super-universality and the scaling properties of the response functions. In the d = 1 case, we obtain a complete understanding of the evolution, from pre- asymptotic to asymptotic behavior. The corresponding response function shows a clear violation of super-universality. Further, our results for d = 1; 2 settle the controversy regarding the decay exponent which characterizes the response function.
