Kinetics of Exciton Self-Trapping Induced Defect Accumulation in Rare-Gas Solids

The kinetics of the process of defect accumulation in rare-gas solids as a result of exciton self-trapping was studied using the selective vacuum ultraviolet photoluminescence method for monitoring of the crystal structure of the samples. The simple kinetic model of defect accumulation in rare-gas samples was applied to the fitting of the dose dependences of luminescence from solid Xe and Ne. The characteristic kinetic parameters were obtained by linear transformation of the time dependence of luminescence intensity of "defect" subbands.

Energetics of thermal inactivation of excitonically-induced defect formation in rare-gas solids

Thermodynamic parameters of thermal inactivation of excitonically induced defect formation in rare-gas solids have been obtained from the fitting of the temperature dependences of defect formation rates, which were measured under selective photoexcitation by synchrotron radiation.

Evidence of defect phase formation in solid Xe induced by synchrotron radiation

The growing of defect phase in solid Xe induced by synchrotron radiation is observed for the first time using the dependence of intensity on time of characteristic intrinsic luminescence band.

Excitonically-Induced Mechanisms of Inelastic Processes in Rare-Gas Solids

The models of permanent lattice defect formation in rare-gas solids are discussed with a focus on a point defect formation in solid Ar. The processes of large-scale atomic displacements induced by electronic excitations were studied using the selective vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy method. The coexistence of intrinsic excitonic mechanism and extrinsic Rydberg state induced excited-state mechanism of Frenkel defect formation was found.
