On creating mass/matter by extra dimensions in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Kaluza-Klein (KK) black hole solutions in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity in $D$ dimensions obtained in the current series of the works by Maeda, Dadhich and Molina are examined. Interpreting their solutions, the authors claim that the mass/matter is created by the extra dimensions. To support this claim, one needs to show that such objects have classically defined masses. We calculate the mass and mass flux for 3D KK black holes in 6D EGB gravity whose properties are sufficiently physically interesting. Superpotentials for arbitrary types of perturbations on arbitrary curved backgrounds, recently obtained by the author, are used, and acceptable mass and mass flux are obtained. A possibility of considering the KK created matter as dark matter in the Universe is discussed.

Correlations beyond CCSD(T) for accurate study of Hg$_2$ and Cp$_2$

Contributions from high-order (non-perturbative triple and quadruple) cluster amplitudes to the dissociation energies, equilibrium distances, and vibrational constants for the ground states of van der Waals dimers Hg$_2$ and Cn$_2$ are evaluated. The incorporation of these contributions into the results of large-scale CCSD(T) calculations leads to non-negligible corrections of the computed molecular constants for Hg$_2$ (6% for the dissociation energy), and enables one to attain perfect agreement with the experimental values.

Towards the electron EDM search. Theoretical study of PbF

We report ab initio relativistic correlation calculations of potential curves and spectroscopic constants for four lowest-lying electronic states of the lead monofluoride. We also calculated parameters of the spin-rotational Hamiltonian for the ground and the first excited states including P,T-odd and P-odd terms. In particular, we have obtained hyperfine constants of the $^{207}$Pb nucleus. For the $^2Π_{1/2}$ state $A_\perp=-6859.6$ MHz, $A_\|=9726.9$ MHz and for the A$^2Σ^+_{1/2}$ $A_\perp=1720.8$ MHz, $A_\|=3073.3$ MHz. Our values of the ground state hyperfine constants are in good agreement with the previous theoretical studies. We discuss and explain seeming disagreement in the sign of the constant $A_\perp$ with the recent experimental data. The effective electric field on the electron $E_{eff}$, which is important for the planned experiment to search for the electric dipole moment of the electron, is found to be 3.3 * 10^{10} V/cm.

Accurate calculations of the dissociation energy, equilibrium distance and spectroscopic constants for the Yb dimer

The dissociation energy, equilibrium distance, and spectroscopic constants for the $^1Σ_g^+$ ground state of the Yb$_2$ molecule are calculated. The relativistic effects are introduced through generalized relativistic effective core potentials with very high precision. The scalar relativistic coupled cluster method particularly well suited for closed-shell van-der-Waals systems is used for the correlation treatment. Extensive generalized correlation basis sets were constructed and employed. The relatively small corrections for high-order cluster amplitudes and spin-orbit interactions are taken into account using smaller basis sets and the spin-orbit density functional theory.

Three types of superpotentials for perturbations in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Superpotentials (antisymmetric tensor densities) in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity for arbitrary types of perturbations on arbitrary curved backgrounds are constructed. As a basis, the generalized conservation laws in the framework of an arbitrary D-dimensional metric theory, where conserved currents are expressed through divergences of superpotentials, are used. Such a derivation is exact (perturbations are not infinitesimal) and is approached, when a one solution (dynamical) is considered as a perturbed system with respect to another solution (background). Three known prescriptions are elaborated: these are the canonical Nœther theorem, the Belinfante symmetrization rule and the field-theoretical derivation. All the three approaches are presented in an unique way convenient for comparisons and a development. Exact expressions for the 01-component of the three types of the superpotentials are derived in the case, when an arbitrary static Schwarzschild-like solution in the EGB gravity is considered as a perturbed system with respect to a background of the same type. These formulae are used for calculating the mass of the Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter black hole in the EGB gravity. As a background both the anti-de Sitter spacetime in arbitrary dimensions and a not maximally symmetric "mass gap" vacuum in 5 dimensions are considered. Problems and perspectives for a future development, including the Lovelock gravity, are discussed.

Theoretical study of HfF$^+$ for the electron EDM search

We report ab initio relativistic correlation calculations of potential curves and electric dipole transition moments for ten low-lying electronic states, effective electric field on the electron, hyperfine constants and radiative lifetimes for the $^3Δ_1$ state of cation of the heavy transition metal fluoride HfF$^+$, which it is suggested to be used in experiments to search for the electric dipole moment of the electron. It is obtained that HfF$^+$ has deeply bound $^1Σ^+$ ground state; its dissociation energy is $D_e=6.4$ eV. The $^3Δ_1$ state is obtained as the relatively long-lived, with lifetime equal to about 0.4 s.,first excited state lying about 0.2 eV higher. The calculated effective electric field, $E_{eff}=W_d|Ω|$, acting on an electron in this state is $5.84*10^{24} Hz/{e*cm}$. The obtained hyperfine constants are $A_{\parallel}= -1239$ MHz for the $^{177}$Hf nucleus and $A_{\parallel}= -58.1$ MHz for the $^{19}$F nucleus.

Nonlinear Perturbations and Conservation Laws on Curved Backgrounds in GR and Other Metric Theories

The field-theoretical approach is reviewed. Perturbations in general relativity as well as in an arbitrary $D$-dimensional metric theory are studied on a background, which is a solution (arbitrary) of the theory. Lagrangian for perturbations is defined, and field equations for perturbations are derived from the variational principle. These equations are exact and equivalent to the equations in the standard formulation, but can be approximate also. The field-theoretical description is invariant under gauge (inner) transformations, which can be presented both in exact and approximate forms. Following the usual field-theoretical prescription, conserved quantities for perturbations are constructed. Conserved currents are expressed through divergences of superpotentials -- antisymmetric tensor densities. This form allows to relate a necessity to consider local properties of perturbations with a theoretical representation of the quasi-local nature of conserved quantities in metric theories. Applications of the formalism in general relativity are discussed. Generalized formulae for an arbitrary metric $D$-dimensional theory are tested in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity.

Towards the electron EDM search: Theoretical study of HfF+

We report first ab initio relativistic correlation calculations of potential curves for ten low-lying electronic states, effective electric field on the electron and hyperfine constants for the ^3Δ_1 state of cation of a heavy transition metal fluoride, HfF^+, that is suggested to be used as the working state in experiments to search for the electric dipole moment of the electron. It is shown that HfF^+ has deeply bound ^1Σ^+ ground state, its dissociation energy is D_e=6.4 eV. The ^3Δ_1 state is obtained to be the relatively long-lived first excited state lying about 0.2 eV higher. The calculated effective electric field E_eff=W_d|Ω| acting on an electron in this state is 5.84*10^{24}Hz/(e*cm)

On search for nuclear Schiff moment in liquid xenon

A parameter of the P,T-odd Hamiltonian characterizing interaction of the nuclear Schiff moment with the gradient of electronic density on the Xe nucleus is calculated for an isolated Xe atom and for liquid xenon. We use more realistic model of liquid medium than the spherical cell model used in [B.Ravaine and A.Derevianko Phys. Rev. A, 69, 050101(R)(2004)]. Qualitatively different results for enhancement of the P,T-odd effect in liquid xenon are obtained when polarization of the medium is taken into account. Thus, proper choice of the liquid phase model is crucially important even for calculation of the properties dependent mostly on the electronic density near a nucleus.

Measurement of the response of a Ga solar neutrino experiment to neutrinos from an 37Ar source

An intense source of 37Ar was produced by the (n,alpha) reaction on 40Ca by irradiating 330 kg of calcium oxide in the fast neutron breeder reactor at Zarechny, Russia. The 37Ar was released from the solid target by dissolution in acid, collected from this solution, purified, sealed into a small source, and brought to the Baksan Neutrino Observatory where it was used to irradiate 13 tonnes of gallium metal in the Russian-American gallium solar neutrino experiment SAGE. Ten exposures of the gallium to the source, whose initial strength was 409 +/- 2 kCi, were carried out during the period April to September 2004. The 71Ge produced by the reaction 71Ga(nu_e,e^-)71Ge was extracted, purified, and counted. The measured production rate was 11.0 ^+1.0 _-0.9 (stat) +/- 0.6 (syst) atoms of 71Ge/d, which is 0.79 ^+0.09_-0.10 of the theoretically calculated production rate. When all neutrino source experiments with gallium are considered together, there is an indication the theoretical cross section has been overestimated.

A note on the Deser-Tekin charges

Perturbed equations for an arbitrary metric theory of gravity in $D$ dimensions are constructed in the vacuum of this theory. The nonlinear part together with matter fields are a source for the linear part and are treated as a total energy-momentum tensor. A generalized family of conserved currents expressed through divergences of anti-symmetrical tensor densities (superpotentials) linear in perturbations is constructed. The new family generalizes the Deser and Tekin currents and superpotentials in quadratic curvature gravity theories generating Killing charges in dS and AdS vacua. As an example, the mass of the $D$-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole in an effective AdS spacetime (a solution in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory) is examined.

In search of the electron electric dipole moment: relativistic correlation calculations of the P,T-violation effect in the ground state of HI$^+$

We report the first results of ab initio relativistic correlation calculation of the effective electric field on the electron, E_eff, in the ground state of the HI$^+$ cation. This value is required for interpretation of the suggested experiment on search for the electron electric dipole moment. The generalized relativistic effective core potential, Fock-space relativistic coupled cluster with single and double cluster amplitudes and spin-orbit direct configuration interaction methods are used, followed by nonvariational one-center restoration of the four-component wavefunction in the iodine core. The calculated value of E_eff by the coupled cluster method is E_eff=0.345\times 10^{24}Hz/e*cm. Configuration interaction study gives E_eff=0.336\times 10^{24}Hz/e*cm (our final value). The structure of chemical bonding and contributions to E_eff in HI$^+$ is clarified and significant deviation of our value from that obtained in Ravaine etal Phys.Rev.Lett., 94, 013001 (2005) is explained.

The Schwarzschild black hole as a point particle

The description of a point mass in general relativity (GR) is given in the framework of the field formulation of GR where all the dynamical fields, including the gravitational field, are considered in a fixed background spacetime. With the use of stationary (not static) coordinates non-singular at the horizon, the Schwarzschild solution is presented as a point-like field configuration in a whole background Minkowski space. The requirement of a stable $η$-causality stated recently in [J.B.Pitts and W.C.Schieve, Found. Phys., v. 34, 211 (2004)] is used essentially as a criterion for testing configurations.

The field theoretical formulation of general relativity and gravity with non-zero masses of gravitons

It is a review paper. General relativity (GR) is presented in the field theoretical form, where gravitational field (metric perturbations) together with other physical fields are propagated in an auxiliary arbitrary curved background spacetime. Conserved currents are constructed and expressed through divergences of antisymmetrical tensor densities (superpotentials). This permits to connect local properties of perturbations with the quasi-local nature of the conserved quantities in GR. The problem of the non-localization of energy in GR is presented in exact mathematical expressions. A modification of GR developed recently by Babak and Grishchuk on the basis of the field formulation of GR is described. Their theory includes massive of spin-2 and spin-0 gravitons. All its local weak-field predictions are in agreement with experimental data. The exact equations of the massive theory eliminate the black hole event horizons and give an oscillator behavior for the homogeneous isotropic universe.

Configuration interaction calculation of hyperfine and P,T-odd constants on ^{207}PbO excited states for the electron EDM experiments

We report first configuration interaction calculations of hyperfine constants A_\parallel and the effective electric field W_d acting on the electric dipole moment of the electron, in two excited electronic states of ^{207}PbO. The obtained hyperfine constants, A_\parallel = -3826 MHz for the a(1) state and A_\parallel = 4887 MHz for the B(1) state, are in very good agreement with the experimental data, -4113 MHz and 5000 \pm 200 MHz, respectively. We find W_d = -(6.1 ^{+1.8}_{-0.6}) 10^{24} Hz/(e cm) for a(1), and W_d = (8.0 \pm 1.6) 10^{24} Hz/(e cm) for B(1). The obtained values are analyzed and compared to recent relativistic coupled cluster results and a semiempirical estimate of W_d for the a(1) state.

Study of P,T-Parity Violation Effects in Polar Heavy-Atom Molecules

Investigation of P,T-parity nonconservation (PNC) phenomena is of fundamental importance for physics. Experiments to search for PNC effects have been performed on TlF and YbF molecules and are in progress for PbO and PbF molecules. For interpretation of molecular PNC experiments it is necessary to calculate those needed molecular properties which cannot be measured. In particular, electronic densities in heavy-atom cores are required for interpretation of the measured data in terms of the P,T-odd properties of elementary particles or P,T-odd interactions between them. Reliable calculations of the core properties (PNC effect, hyperfine structure etc., which are described by the operators heavily concentrated in atomic cores or on nuclei) usually require accurate accounting for both relativistic and correlation effects in heavy-atom systems. In this paper, some basic aspects of the experimental search for PNC effects in heavy-atom molecules and the computational methods used in their electronic structure calculations are discussed. The latter include the generalized relativistic effective core potential (GRECP) approach and the methods of nonvariational and variational one-center restoration of correct shapes of four-component spinors in atomic cores after a two-component GRECP calculation of a molecule. Their efficiency is illustrated with calculations of parameters of the effective P,T-odd spin-rotational Hamiltonians in the molecules PbF, HgF, YbF, BaF, TlF, and PbO.

Generalized RECPs accounting for Breit effects: uranium, plutonium and superheavy elements 112, 113, 114

The Generalized Relativistic Effective Core Potential (GRECP) method is described which allows one to simulate Breit interaction and finite nuclear models by an economic way and with high accuracy. The corresponding GRECPs for the uranium, plutonium, eka-mercury (E112), eka-thallium (E113) and eka-lead (E114) atoms are generated. The accuracy of these GRECPs and of the RECPs of other groups is estimated in atomic numerical SCF calculations with Coulomb two-electron interactions and point nucleus as compared to the corresponding all-electron Hartree-Fock-Dirac-Breit calculations with the Fermi nuclear charge distribution. Different nuclear models and contributions of the Breit interaction between different shells are studied employing all-electron four-component methods.

Conserved currents in $D$-dimensional gravity and brane cosmology

In $D$-dimentional gravity on arbitrary curved backgrounds using proven methods conserved currents, divergences of antisymmetrical tensor densities (superpotentials), are constructed. These superpotentials have two remarkable properties: they depend in an essential way on second derivatives in the Lagrangian and are independent on divergences added to it. The conserved currents are thus particulary well adapted to the case of perturbations in Gauss-Bonett cosmological brane theories.
