libepa -- a C++/Python library for calculations of cross sections of ultraperipheral collisions

The library provides a set of C++/Python functions for computing cross sections of ultraperipheral collisions of high energy particles under the equivalent photons approximation. Cross sections are represented through multiple integrals over the phase space. The integrals are calculated through recurrent application of algorithms for one dimensional integration. The paper contains an introduction to the theory of ultraperipheral collisions, discusses the library approach and provides a few examples of calculations.

Production of heavy charged particles in proton-proton ultraperipheral collisions at the Large Hadron Collider: survival factor

Ultraperipheral collisions of high energy protons are a source of approximately real photons colliding with each other. Photon fusion can result in production of yet unknown charged particles in very clean events. The cleanliness of such an event is due to the requirement that the protons survive during the collision. Finite sizes of the protons reduce the probability of such outcome compared to point-like particles. We calculate the survival factors and cross sections for the production of heavy charged particles at the Large Hadron Collider.

LHC as a photon-photon collider: bounds on $Γ_{X\toγγ}$

In the relatively recent CMS data, there is a hint on the existence of a resonance with the mass 28 GeV coupling to muons. Such a resonance should also couple to photons through the fermion loop, therefore it can be searched for in ultraperipheral collisions (UPC) of protons. We set an upper bound on the $X γγ$ coupling constant from the data on $μ^+ μ^-$ pair production in UPC at the LHC. Our approach can be used for similar resonances should they appear in the future.

Quasistable charginos in ultraperipheral proton-proton collisions at the LHC

We propose a model-independent approach for the search of charged long-lived particles produced in ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC. The main idea is to improve event reconstruction at ATLAS and CMS with the help of their forward detectors. Detection of both scattered protons in forward detectors allows complete recovery of event kinematics. Though this requirement reduces the number of events, it greatly suppresses the background, including the large background from the pile-up.

New Physics at 1 TeV?

If decays of a heavy particle S are responsible for the diphoton excess with invariant mass 750 GeV observed at the 13 TeV LHC run, it can be easily accomodated in the Standard Model. Two scenarios are considered: production in gluon fusion through a loop of heavy isosinglet quark(s) and production in photon fusion through a loop of heavy isosinglet leptons. In the second case many heavy leptons are needed or/and they should have large electric charges in order to reproduce experimental data on $σ(pp \to SX) \cdot \mathrm{Br}(S \to γγ)$.

Extending the Higgs sector: an extra singlet

An extension of the Standard Model with an additional Higgs singlet is analyzed. Bounds on singlet admixture in 125 GeV h boson from electroweak radiative corrections and data on h production and decays are obtained. Possibility of double h production enhancement at 14 TeV LHC due to heavy higgs contribution is considered.

Charmed penguin versus BAU

Since the Standard Model most probably cannot explain the large value of CP asymmetries recently observed in D-meson decays we propose the fourth quark-lepton generation explanation of it. As a byproduct weakly mixed leptons of the fourth generation make it possible to save the baryon number of the Universe from erasure by sphalerons. An impact of the 4th generation on BBN is briefly discussed.

(ΔA_{CP})_{LHCb} and the fourth generation

LHCb collaboration measured CPV at the level of one percent in the difference of assymetries in $D^0(\bar D^0)\to π^+ π^-, K^+ K^-$ decays. If confirmed on a larger statistics and final systematics this would mean New Physics manifestation. The fourth quark-lepton generation can be responsible for the observed effect.

Status of the Fourth Generation - A Brief Summary of B3SM-III Workshop in Four Parts

This summary of the 3rd "Beyond the 3 Generation Standard Model" workshop presents the following four statements (and their implications) for the ongoing and future searches of a fourth generation: 1) The enhancement of the Higgs gluon-gluon production cross-section times branching fraction for many of the search channels studied at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is not a flat factor of 9; 2) Electroweak precision data allows for not only a fourth generation, even more generations are allowed; 3) Consideration of mixing significantly changes the conclusions about the interpretation of experimental constraints, and even a fully-degenerate fourth generation becomes allowed; 4) The features that make a fourth generation of fermions attractive are still valid even under the light of initial LHC results.

Once more on extra quark-lepton generations and precision measurements

Precision measurements of $Z$-boson parameters and $W$-boson and $t$-quark masses put strong constraints on non $SU(2)\times U(1)$ singlet New Physics. We demonstrate that one extra generation passes electroweak constraints even when all new particle masses are well above their direct mass bounds.

Mass and decays of Brout-Englert-Higgs scalar with extra generations

The higher bound on the mass of the Brout-Englert-Higgs scalar boson (BEH boson for brevity) arising from radiative corrections is not stable when the Standard Model is extended to include non-decoupling particles. In particular additional generation{s} of fermions allow for a heavier scalar. We investigate how the decay branchings of scalar boson are affected by the opening of new channels.

Z-lineshape versus 4th generation masses

The dependence of the Z-resonance shape on the location of the threshold of the N\bar{N} production (N is the 4th generation neutrino) is analyzed. The bounds on the existence of 4th generation are derived from the comparison of the theoretical expression for the Z-lineshape with the experimental data. The 4th generation is excluded at 95% C. L. for m_N<46.7\pm 0.2 GeV.

Mass of the higgs versus fourth generation masses

The predicted value of the higgs mass $m_H$ is analyzed assuming the existence of the fourth generation of leptons ($N, E$) and quarks ($U, D$). The steep and flat directions are found in the five-dimensional parameter space: $m_H$, $m_U$, $m_D$, $m_N$, $m_E$. The LEPTOP fit of the precision electroweak data is compatible (in particular) with $m_H \sim 300$ GeV, $m_N \sim 50$ GeV, $m_E \sim 100$ GeV, $m_U +m_D \sim 500$ GeV, and $|m_U -m_D| \sim 75$ GeV. The quality of fits drastically improves when the data on b- and c-quark asymmetries and new NuTeV data on deep inelastic scattering are ignored.
