Gravitational waves originated before compactification in Kaluza-Klein theory

We investigate the propagation of multidimensional gravitational waves generated before compactification and observes today as 4-dimensional gravitational waves and gauge fields by generalizing the investigation of Alesci and Montani(AM) to the case where the internal space is an n-sphere. We also derive the 4-dimensional forms of the multidimensional harmonic gauge condition. The primary difference from the case of AM comes from the effect of curvature of the internal space which prevent the space to be static. The other effects are explicitly shown for propagation of the waves in our 4-dimensional spacetime. Static internal space exists if multidimensional cosmologicalconstant is present. Then the situation is similar to the one-dimensional internal space.

Coulomb-gauge ghost and gluon propagators in SU(3) lattice Yang-Mills theory

We study the momentum dependence of the ghost propagator and of the space and time components of the gluon propagator at equal time in pure SU(3) lattice Coulomb gauge theory carrying out a joint analysis of data collected independently at RCNP Osaka and Humboldt University Berlin. We focus on the scaling behavior of these propagators at beta=5.8,...,6.2 and apply a matching technique to relate the data for the different lattice cutoffs. Thereby, lattice artifacts are found to be rather strong for both instantaneous gluon propagators at large momentum. As a byproduct we obtain the respective lattice scale dependences a(beta) for the transversal gluon and the ghost propagator which indeed run faster with beta than two-loop running, but slightly slower than what is known from the Necco-Sommer analysis of the heavy quark potential. The abnormal a(beta) dependence as determined from the instantaneous time-time gluon propagator, D_{44}, remains a problem, though. The role of residual gauge-fixing influencing D_{44} is discussed.

IR suppression of the Coulomb gauge gluon propagator in SU(3) Yang-Mills theory

We calculate the equal-time transverse gluon propagator in Coulomb gauge QCD using a SU(3) quenched lattice gauge simulation on large lattices, up to 11 [fm$^4$]. We find that the equal-time gluon propagator shows scaling violation; namely, the data for different lattice spacings do not fall on top of one curve. This problem is cured by discarding data at large momenta, which suffer from discretization errors. In the infrared region, the transverse gluon propagator is strongly suppressed and shows a turnover at about 500 [MeV]. Fitting the power law ansatz to the data at small momenta predicts the vanishing gluon propagator at zero momentum, indicating the confinement of gluons.

The low-lying Scalar Mesons and Related Topics

After presenting the motivations to explore the low-lying scalar mesons such as the $σ$, $a_0$ and $κ$ in the unquenched as well as quenched lattice QCD, we review the works done by our collaboration (SCALAR Collaboration) with a what-to-do-next list. We briefly mention the imporatance to explore the $N_c$ dependence of and possible effects of the $U_A(1)$ anomaly to the properties the low-lying scalar mesons.

The volume dependence of the long-range two-body potentials in various color channels by lattice QCD

We study the color-dependent confining forces between two quarks by the quenched lattice simulations of Coulomb gauge QCD. The color-singlet and color-antitriplet instantaneous potentials yield attractive forces. The ratio of the string tensions obtained from them is approximately 2 and have little volume dependence. Meanwhile, the color-octet and color-sextet channels give a minor contribution for two-quark system. We finally find that the infrared self-energy of the color-nonsinglet channels diverges in the infinite volume limit; however, the degree of the divergence on the finite lattice can be understood in terms of color factors.

Infrared behavior of the Faddeev-Popov operator in Coulomb gauge QCD

We calculate the eigenvalue distribution of the Faddeev-Popov operator in Coulomb gauge QCD using quenched SU(3) lattice simulation. In the confinement phase, the density of the low-lying eigenvalues increases with lattice volume, and the confinement criterion is satisfied. Moreover, even in the deconfinement phase, the behavior of the FP eigenvalue density is qualitatively the same as in the confinement phase. This is consistent with the fact that the color-Coulomb potential is not screened in the deconfined phase.

Infrared divergence of the color-Coulomb self-energy in Coulomb gauge QCD

We investigate the spectrum of the Faddeev-Popov operator in Coulomb gauge QCD using quenched SU(3) lattice simulation. In the confinement phase, we observe the accumulation of the near-zero modes of the FP operator at large lattice volumes, and the color-Coulomb self-energy diverges in the infrared limit. Moreover, even in the deconfinement phase, the behavior of the FP eigenvalue density is qualitatively the same as in the confinement phase and the color-Coulomb self-energy is infrared divergent.

Properties of Color-Coulomb String Tension

We study the properties of the color-Coulomb string tension obtained from the instantaneous part of gluon propagators in Coulomb gauge using quenched SU(3) lattice simulation. In the confinement phase, the dependence of the color-Coulomb string tension on the QCD coupling constant is smaller than that of the Wilson loop string tension. On the other hand, in the deconfinement phase, the color-Coulomb string tension does not vanish even for $T/T_c = 1 \sim 5$, the temperature dependence of which is comparable with the magnetic scaling, dominating the high temperature QCD. Thus, the color-Coulomb string tension is not an order parameter of QGP phase transition.

QCD color interactions between two quarks

We study the QCD color interactions between static two heavy quarks at zero temperature in a quenched SU(3) lattice gauge simulation: in addition to the standard singlet $q\bar{q}$ potentials, we calculate octet $q\bar{q}$ potentials, symmetric and antisymmetric $qq$ potentials. It is shown that the antisymmetric $qq$ channel behaves as a linearly rising potential at large quark separations. We further find that the $q\bar{q}$ octet and $qq$ symmetric channels have the complex dependence on the distance; at short distances they are repulsive forces, while at large distances, they show linearly rising feature. Ratio of string tensions between $q\bar{q}$ singlet and $qq$ antisymmetric potentials is described in terms of the Casimir factor.

Color confinement in Coulomb gauge QCD

We study the long-range behavior of the heavy quark potential in Coulomb gauge using a quenched SU(3) lattice gauge simulation with partial-length Polyakov line correlators. We show that the Coulomb heavy quark potential associated with the instantaneous part of gluon propagators in Coulomb gauge, presents a linearly rising behavior at large distances, and the resulting Coulomb string tension is greater than the Wilson loop string tension, which can be explained by Zwanziger's inequality. The linearly rising behavior of the Coulomb heavy quark potential persists even in the deconfinement phase. The heavy quark potential in Lorentz gauge shows completely different behavior than that in Coulomb gauge. Our SU(3) result, i.e., the Coulomb heavy quark potential is confining, qualitatively agrees with that of the SU(2) analysis carried out by Greensite, Olejnik and Zwanziger.

Viscosities of Hot Gluon -- A Lattice QCD Study --

We present transport coefficients (shear viscosity, $η$, and bulk viscosity, $ζ$) for the gluon system obtained by the lattice QCD. This is an indispensable calculation towards the understanding of ``New State of Matter'' observed in RHIC. We study the temperature regions of RHIC ($1.4 \leq T/T_c \leq 1.8$) and much higher ones up to $ T/T_c \sim 20$. In RHIC regions, the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density, $η/s$, is around $\sim 0.1-0.4$, and satisfies the KSS bound. At high temperature, $η$ becomes two or three oder of magnitude larger. Our calculation has two limitations: (i) the use of the quench approximation, i.e., without quark pair creation-annihilation effects on vacuum, and (ii) the use of an ansatz for the spectral function. The first point has been well studied in calculations of the spectroscopy and the phase-transition behavior. To investigate the second point, we compare our results with perturbative calculations in high $T$-regions, and also check the effects of the modification of the spectral function on the viscosity.

Anisotropic superconducting gap in transuranium superconductor PuRhGa$_{5}$: Ga NQR study on a single crystal

^{69,71}Ga NMR/NQR studies have been performed on a single crystal of the transuranium superconductor PuRhGa_{5} with Tc ~ 9 K. We have observed a ^{69}Ga NQR line at ~29.15 MHz, and assigned it to the $4i$ Ga site using the NMR results. The ^{69}Ga NQR spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_{1} shows no coherence peak just below Tc, but obeys a T^{3} behavior below Tc. This result strongly suggests that PuRhGa_{5} is an unconventional superconductor having an anisotropic superconducting gap.

Properties of hadron screening masses at small baryonic density

The properties of hadron screening masses around the deconfinement phase transition at finite baryonic density can be studied by evaluating the Taylor coefficients with respect to the iso-scalar and iso-vector chemical potentials. We simulate 2-flavour lattice QCD with staggered fermions on a 12*12*24*6 lattice with ma = 0.05 and 0.10 and report investigations of nucleon, pseudo-scalar and vector mesons. We present new, strong evidence that in the confining phase, the screening masses at vanishing chemical potential have significant temperature dependence, but the effect of the iso-scalar chemical potential is very small. Above the critical temperature, the second derivative terms of mesons rapidly increase as contrasted to the case of baryon. We also study the responses of the screening masses to an iso-vector chemical potential and discuss some of the issues related to the properties of hadron masses at finite density.

Lattice calculation of gluon screening masses

We study SU(3) gluon electric and magnetic masses at finite temperatures using quenched lattice QCD on a $20^2 \times 32 \times 6$ lattice. We focus on temperature regions between $T=T_c$ and $6T_c$, which are realized in BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and CERN Large Hadron Collider experiments. Stochastic quantization with a gauge-fixing term is employed to calculate gluon propagators. The temperature dependence of the electric mass is found to be consistent with the hard-thermal-loop perturbation, and the magnetic mass has finite values in the temperature region of interest. Both screening masses have little gauge parameter dependence. The behavior of the gluon propagators is very different in confinement/deconfinement physics. The short distance magnetic part behaves like a confined propagator even in the deconfinement phase. A simulation with a larger lattice, $32^2 \times 48 \times 6 $, shows that the magnetic mass has a stronger finite size effect than the electric mass.

Simulation of Wilson fermion at finite isospin density

For QCD with Wilson fermions at isospin chemical potential we study the finite phase transition on an $8^3\times4$ lattice at $κ=0.15$. We use two gauge actions: Wilson action and DBW2 action. Both actions give the same results. The phase diagram is qualitatively similar to the one obtained for QCD at small baryon chemical potential. We also calculate the number density for various isospin chemical potentials.

Phase Fluctuation of Fermion Determinant in Lattice QCD at Finite Density

Once the quark chemical potential $μ$ is introduced in finite density QCD, the fermion determinant appeared in the path integral measure becomes complex. In order to investigate the phase effect of SU(3) lattice QCD (2-flavors), we calculated the fluctuation of the phase of $\detΔ(μ)$ on a $8^3\times4$ lattice at $μ= 0.1$ and 0.2. Then we calculated the chiral condensate and Polyakov line in the no phase and reweighted cases. There is little difference between these two cases at $μ= 0.1$ and 0.2. We consider a possible reason for this result below $μ\le 0.27$ in terms of $Z_3$ symmetry.

Quenched charmonium spectrum

We study charmonium using the standard relativistic formalism in the quenched approximation, on a set of lattices with isotropic lattice spacings ranging from 0.1 to 0.04 fm. We concentrate on the calculation of the hyperfine splitting between eta_c and J/psi, aiming for a controlled continuum extrapolation of this quantity. The splitting extracted from the non-perturbatively improved clover Dirac operator shows very little dependence on the lattice spacing for $a \leq 0.1$ fm. The dependence is much stronger for Wilson and tree-level improved clover operators, but they still yield consistent extrapolations if sufficiently fine lattices, $a \leq 0.07$ fm ($a M(η_c) \leq 1$), are used. Our result for the hyperfine splitting is 77(2)(6) MeV (where Sommer's parameter, r_0, is used to fix the scale). This value remains about 30% below experiment. Dynamical fermions and OZI-forbidden diagrams both contribute to the remainder. Results for the eta_c and J/psi wave functions are also presented.

Screening of hot gluon

We calculate electric and magnetic masses of gluons between T = T_c and 6T_c using lattice QCD (quantum chromodynamics) in the quench approximation. We find that magnetic mass has finite values in this region, and the temperature dependence of the electric mass is consistent with that determined using the hard-thermal-loop perturbation. The hard-thermal-loop resummation improves significantly the magnitude of the electric mass comparing to the leading order perturbation. Both screening masses have little gauge dependence.
