One-Loop Corrections of Single Spin Asymmetries in Semi-Inclusive DIS

We study single spin asymmetries at one-loop accuracy in semi-inclusive DIS with a transversely polarized hadron in the initial state. Two measurable spin observables are predicted in the framework of QCD collinear factorization. One of the spin observables is the Sivers weighted asymmetry, another one is the Collins weighted asymmetry. The prediction takes a form of convolutions of perturbative coefficient functions and nonperturbative functions, which are twist-2 transversity distributions, twist-3 parton distributions, twist-2- and twist-3 parton fragmentation functions. These nonperturbative functions can be extracted from measurements of the spin observables and provide valuable information of the inner structure of hadrons. The measurements can be done in current COMPASS- and JLab experiments and in future experiments of EIC. The perturbative coefficient functions are calculated at one-loop level. There are collinear divergences in the calculation involving chirality-even- and chirality-odd twist operators. We find that all collinear divergences can be correctly subtracted so that the final results are finite.

Surface oxidation and thermoelectric properties of indium-doped tin telluride nanowires

The recent discovery of excellent thermoelectric properties and topological surface states in SnTe-based compounds has attracted extensive attention in various research areas. Indium doped SnTe is of particular interest because, depending on the doping level, it can either generate resonant states in the bulk valence band leading to enhanced thermoelectric properties, or induce superconductivity that coexists with topological states. Here we report on the vapor deposition of In-doped SnTe nanowires and the study of their surface oxidation and thermoelectric properties. The nanowire growth is assisted by Au catalysts, and their morphologies vary as a function of substrate position and temperature. Transmission electron microscopy characterization reveals the formation of amorphous surface in single crystalline nanowires. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies suggest that the nanowire surface is composed of In2O3, SnO2, Te and TeO2 which can be readily removed by argon ion sputtering. Exposure of the cleaned nanowires to atmosphere yields rapid oxidation of the surface within only one minute. Characterizations of electrical conductivity σ, thermopower S, and thermal conductivity \k{appa} were performed on the same In-doped nanowire which shows suppressed σ and \k{appa} but enhanced S yielding an improved thermoelectric figure of merit ZT than the undoped SnTe.

Light-Cone Singularities and Transverse-Momentum-Dependent Factorization at Twist-3

We study transverse-momentum-dependent factorization at twist-3 for Drell-Yan processes. The factorization can be derived straightforwardly at leading order of $α_s$. But at this order we find that light-cone singularities already exist and effects of soft gluons are not correctly factorized. We regularize the singularities with gauge links off the light-cone and introduce a soft factor to factorize the effects of soft gluons. Interestingly, the soft factor must be included in the definition of subtracted TMD parton distributions to correctly factorize the effects of soft gluons. We derive the Collins-Soper equation for one of twist-3 TMD parton distributions. The equation can be useful for resummation of large logarithms terms appearing in the corresponding structure function in collinear factorization. However, the derived equation is nonhomogeneous. This will make the resummation complicated.

One-Loop Corrections of Single Spin Asymmetries at Twist-3 in Drell-Yan Processes

We study single spin asymmetries at one-loop accuracy in Drell-Yan processes in which one of the initial hadrons is transversely polarized. The spin-dependent part of differential cross-sections can be factorized with various hadronic matrix elements of twist-2 and twist-3 operators. These operators can be of even- and odd-chirality. In this work, the studied observables of asymmetries are differential cross-sections with different weights. These weights are selected so that the observables are spin-dependent and their virtual corrections are completely determined by quark form factor. In the calculations of one-loop corrections we meet collinear divergences in the contributions involving chirality-odd and chirality-even operators. We find that all of the divergences can be correctly subtracted. Therefore, our results give an explicit example of QCD factorization with twist-3 operators, especially, QCD factorization with chirality-odd twist-3 operators.

Twist-3 Contributions in Semi-Inclusive DIS with Transversely Polarized Target

We study semi-inclusive DIS with a transversely polarized target in the approach of collinear factorization. The effects related with the transverse polarization are at twist-3. We derive the complete result of twist-3 contributions to the relevant hadronic tensor at leading order of $α_s$, and construct correspondingly experimental observables. Measuring these observables will help to extract the twist-2 transversity distribution, twist-3 distributions and twist-3 fragmentation functions of the produced unpolarized hadron. A detailed comparison with the approach of transverse-momentum-dependent factorization is made.

Field dependent magnetization of BiFeO3 in ultrathin La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/BiFeO3 superlattice

We report the observation of field-induced magnetization of BiFeO3 (BFO) in an ultrathin BFO/La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMO) superlattice using polarized neutron reflectivity (PNR). Our PNR results indicate parallel alignment of magnetization across BFO/LSMO interfaces. The study showed an increase in average magnetization on increasing applied magnetic field at 10K. We observed a saturation magnetization of 110 \pm 15 kA/m (~0.8 μB/Fe) for ultrathin BFO layer (~2 unit cell) sandwiched between ultrathin LSMO layers (~ 2 unit cell), which is much higher than the canted moment (0.03 μB/Fe) in the bulk BFO. The macroscopic VSM results on superlattice clearly indicate superparamagnetic behavior typically observed in nanoparticles of manganites.
