Fricke identities, Frobenius $k$-characters and Markov equation

In 1896 Frobenius and Fricke had published two seemingly unrelated papers: Frobenius had started to develop his theory of $k$-characters for finite groups motivated by Dedekind's question about factorisation of the group determinant, while Fricke followed Klein's approach to the uniformization theorem. We show that in fact these two works can be naturally linked and both are related to remarkable Markov's paper of 1880 on arithmetic of binary quadratic forms.

Tropical Markov dynamics and Cayley cubic

We study the tropical version of Markov dynamics on the Cayley cubic, introduced by V.E. Adler and one of the authors. We show that this action is semi-conjugated to the standard action of $SL_2(\mathbb Z)$ on a torus, and thus is ergodic with the Lyapunov exponent and entropy given by the logarithm of the spectral radius of the corresponding matrix.

Conway river and Arnold sail

We establish a simple relation between two geometric constructions in number theory: the Conway river of a real indefinite binary quadratic form and the Arnold sail of the corresponding pair of lines.

V-systems, holonomy Lie algebras and logarithmic vector fields

It is shown that the description of certain class of representations of the holonomy Lie algebra associated to hyperplane arrangement $Δ$ is essentially equivalent to the classification of $\vee$-systems associated to $Δ.$ The flat sections of the corresponding $\vee$-connection can be interpreted as vector fields, which are both logarithmic and gradient. We conjecture that the hyperplane arrangement of any $\vee$-system is free in Saito's sense and show this for all known $\vee$-systems and for a special class of $\vee$-systems called harmonic, which includes all Coxeter systems. In the irreducible Coxeter case the potentials of the corresponding gradient vector fields turn out to be Saito flat coordinates, or their one-parameter deformations. We give formulas for these deformations as well as for the potentials of the classical families of harmonic $\vee$-systems.

Orbits and invariants of super Weyl groupoid

We study the orbits and polynomial invariants of certain affine action of the super Weyl groupoid of Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak {gl}(n,m)$, depending on a parameter. We show that for generic values of the parameter all the orbits are finite and separated by certain explicitly given invariants. We also describe explicitly the special set of parameters, for which the algebra of invariants is not finitely generated and does not separate the orbits, some of which are infinite.

Universal formula for Hilbert series of minimal nilpotent orbits

We show that the Hilbert series of the projective variety $X=P(O_{min}),$ corresponding to the minimal nilpotent orbit $\mathcal O_{min},$ is universal in the sense of Vogel: it is written uniformly for all simple Lie algebras in terms of Vogel's parameters $α,β,γ$ and represents a special case of the generalized hypergeometric function ${}_{4}F_{3}.$ A universal formula for the degree of $X$ is then deduced.

Symmetric Lie superalgebras and deformed quantum Calogero-Moser problems

The representation theory of symmetric Lie superalgebras and corresponding spherical functions are studied in relation with the theory of the deformed quantum Calogero-Moser systems. In the special case of symmetric pair g=gl(n,2m), k=osp(n,2m) we establish a natural bijection between projective covers of spherically typical irreducible g-modules and the finite dimensional generalised eigenspaces of the algebra of Calogero-Moser integrals D_{n,m} acting on the corresponding Laurent quasi-invariants A_{n,m}.

Jack-Laurent symmetric functions

We develop the general theory of Jack-Laurent symmetric functions, which are certain generalisations of the Jack symmetric functions, depending on an additional parameter p_0.

Jack-Laurent symmetric functions for special values of parameters

We consider the Jack--Laurent symmetric functions for special values of parameters p_0=n+k^{-1}m, where k is not rational and m and n are natural numbers. In general, the coefficients of such functions may have poles at these values of p_0. The action of the corresponding algebra of quantum Calogero-Moser integrals D(k,p_0) on the space of Laurent symmetric functions defines the decomposition into generalised eigenspaces. We construct a basis in each generalised eigenspace as certain linear combinations of the Jack--Laurent symmetric functions, which are regular at p_0=n+k^{-1}m, and describe the action of D(k,p_0) in these eigenspaces.

Burchnall-Chaundy polynomials and the Laurent phenomenon

The Burchnall-Chaundy polynomials $P_n(z)$ are determined by the differential recurrence relation $$P_{n+1}'(z)P_{n-1}(z)-P_{n+1}(z)P_{n-1}'(z)=P_n(z)^2$$ with $P_{-1}=P_0(z)=1.$ The fact that this recurrence relation has all solutions polynomial is not obvious and is similar to the integrality of Somos sequences and the Laurent phenomenon. We discuss this parallel in more detail and extend it to two difference equations $$Q_{n+1}(z+1)Q_{n-1}(z)-Q_{n+1}(z)Q_{n-1}(z+1)=Q_n(z)Q_n(z+1)$$ and $$R_{n+1}(z+1)R_{n-1}(z-1)-R_{n+1}(z-1)R_{n-1}(z+1)=R^2_n(z)$$ related to two different KdV-type reductions of the Hirota-Miwa and Dodgson octahedral equations. As a corollary we have a new form of the Burchnall-Chaundy polynomials in terms of the initial data $P_n(0)$, which is shown to be Laurent.

On deformation and classification of V-systems

The V-systems are special finite sets of covectors which appeared in the theory of the generalized Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde (WDVV) equations. Several families of V-systems are known but their classification is an open problem. We derive the relations describing the infinitesimal deformations of V-systems and use them to study the classification problem for V-systems in dimension 3. We discuss also possible matroidal structures of V-systems in relation with projective geometry and give the catalogue of all known irreducible rank 3 V-systems.

In search for a perfect shape of polyhedra: Buffon transformation

For an arbitrary polygon consider a new one by joining the centres of consecutive edges. Iteration of this procedure leads to a shape which is affine equivalent to a regular polygon. This regularisation effect is usually ascribed to Count Buffon (1707-1788). We discuss a natural analogue of this procedure for 3-dimensional polyhedra, which leads to a new notion of affine $B$-regular polyhedra. The main result is the proof of existence of star-shaped affine $B$-regular polyhedra with prescribed combinatorial structure, under partial symmetry and simpliciality assumptions. The proof is based on deep results from spectral graph theory due to Colin de Verdiere and Lovasz.

Dunkl operators at infinity and Calogero-Moser systems

We define the Dunkl and Dunkl-Heckman operators in infinite number of variables and use them to construct the quantum integrals of the Calogero-Moser-Sutherland problems at infinity. As a corollary we have a simple proof of integrability of the deformed quantum CMS systems related to classical Lie superalgebras. We show how this naturally leads to a quantum version of the Moser matrix, which in the deformed case was not known before.

Cauchy problem for integrable discrete equations on quad-graphs

Initial value problems for the integrable discrete equations on quad-graphs are investigated. A geometric criterion of the well-posedness of such a problem is found. The effects of the interaction of the solutions with the localized defects in the regular square lattice are discussed for the discrete potential KdV and linear wave equations. The examples of kinks and solitons on various quad-graphs, including quasiperiodic tilings, are presented.

Baker-Akhiezer functions and generalised Macdonald-Mehta integrals

For the rational Baker-Akhiezer functions associated with special arrangements of hyperplanes with multiplicities we establish an integral identity, which may be viewed as a generalisation of the self-duality property of the usual Gaussian function with respect to the Fourier transformation. We show that the value of properly normalised Baker-Akhiezer function at the origin can be given by an integral of Macdonald-Mehta type and explicitly compute these integrals for all known Baker-Akhiezer arrangements. We use the Dotsenko-Fateev integrals to extend this calculation to all deformed root systems, related to the non-exceptional basic classical Lie superalgebras.

For two different natural definitions of Casimir operators for simple Lie algebras we show that their eigenvalues in the adjoint representation can be expressed polynomially in the universal Vogel's parameters $α, β, γ$ and give explicit formulae for the generating functions of these eigenvalues.

Zeroes of Wronskians of Hermite polynomials and Young diagrams

For a certain class of partitions, a simple qualitative relation is observed between the shape of the Young diagram and the pattern of zeroes of the Wronskian of the corresponding Hermite polynomials. In the case of two-term Wronskian $W(H_n, H_{n+k})$ we give an explicit formula for the asymptotic shape of the zero set as $n \rightarrow \infty$. Some empirical asymptotic formulas are given for the zero sets of three and four-term Wronskians.
