Khovanov polynomials for satellites and asymptotic adjoint polynomials

We compute explicitly the Khovanov polynomials (using the computer program from katlas.org) for the two simplest families of the satellite knots, which are the twisted Whitehead doubles and the two-strand cables. We find that a quantum group decomposition for the HOMFLY polynomial of a satellite knot can be extended to the Khovanov polynomial, whose quantum group properties are not manifest. Namely, the Khovanov polynomial of a twisted Whitehead double or two-strand cable (the two simplest satellite families) can be presented as a naively deformed linear combination of the pattern and companion invariants. For a given companion, the satellite polynomial "smoothly" depends on the pattern but for the "jump" at one critical point defined by the s-invariant of the companion knot. A similar phenomenon is known for the knot Floer homology and tau-invariant for the same kind of satellites.

Combinatorics of KP hierarchy structural constants

Following Natanzon-Zabrodin, we explore the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy as an infinite system of mutually consistent relations on the second derivatives of the free energy with some universal coefficients. From this point of view, various combinatorial properties of these coefficients naturally highlight certain non-trivial properties of the KP hierarchy. Furthermore, this approach allows us to suggest several interesting directions of the KP deformation via a deformation of these coefficients. We also construct an eigenvalue matrix model, whose correlators fully describe the universal KP coefficients, which allows us to further study their properties and generalizations.

Genus expansion of matrix models and $\hbar$ expansion of KP hierarchy

We study $\hbar$ expansion of the KP hierarchy following Takasaki-Takebe arXiv:hep-th/9405096 considering several examples of matrix model $τ$-functions with natural genus expansion. Among the examples there are solutions of KP equations of special interest, such as generating function for simple Hurwitz numbers, Hermitian matrix model, Kontsevich model and Brezin-Gross-Witten model. We show that all these models with parameter $\hbar$ are $τ$-functions of the $\hbar$-KP hierarchy and the expansion in $\hbar$ for the $\hbar$-KP coincides with the genus expansion for these models. Furthermore, we show a connection of recent papers considering the $\hbar$-formulation of the KP hierarchy arXiv:1509.04472, arXiv:1512.07172 with original Takasaki-Takebe approach. We find that in this approach the recovery of enumerative geometric meaning of $τ$-functions is straightforward and algorithmic.

On (q,t)-deformation of Gaussian matrix model

The recently discovered general formulas for perturbative correlators in basic matrix models can be interpreted as the Schur-preservation property of Gaussian measures. Then substitution of Schur by, say, Macdonald polynomials, defines a q,t-deformation of the matrix model. Eigenvalue integral representations and Virasoro-like constraints are immediate consequences.

On ambiguity in knot polynomials for virtual knots

We claim that HOMFLY polynomials for virtual knots, defined with the help of the matrix-model recursion relations, contain more parameters, than just the usual $q$ and $A = q^N$. These parameters preserve topological invariance and do not show up in the case of ordinary (non-virtual) knots and links. They are most conveniently observed in the hypercube formalism: then they substitute $q$-dimensions of certain fat graphs, which are not constrained by recursion and can be chosen arbitrarily. The number of these new topological invariants seems to grow fast with the number of non-virtual crossings: 0, 1, 1, 5, 15, 91, 784, 9160, ... This number can be decreased by imposing the factorization requirement for composites, in addition to topological invariance -- still freedom remains. None of these new parameters, however, appear in HOMFLY for Kishino unknot, which thus remains unseparated from the ordinary unknots even by this enriched set of knot invariants.

Combinatorics of loop equations for branched covers of sphere

We prove, in a purely combinatorial way, the spectral curve topological recursion for the problem of enumeration of bi-colored maps, which are dual objects to dessins d'enfant. Furthermore, we give a proof of the quantum spectral curve equation for this problem. Then we consider the generalized case of 4-colored maps and outline the idea of the proof of the corresponding spectral curve topological recursion.

On matrix-model approach to simplified Khovanov-Rozansky calculus

Wilson-loop averages in Chern-Simons theory (HOMFLY polynomials) can be evaluated in different ways -- the most difficult, but most interesting of them is the hypercube calculus, the only one applicable to virtual knots and used also for categorification (higher-dimensional extension) of the theory. We continue the study of quantum dimensions, associated with hypercube vertices, in the drastically simplified version of this approach to knot polynomials. At $q=1$ the problem is reformulated in terms of fat (ribbon) graphs, where Seifert cycles play the role of vertices. Ward identities in associated matrix model provide a set of recursions between classical dimensions. For $q \neq 1$ most of these relations are broken (i.e. deformed in a still uncontrollable way), and only few are protected by Reidemeister invariance of Chern-Simons theory. Still they are helpful for systematic evaluation of entire series of quantum dimensions, including negative ones, which are relevant for virtual link diagrams. To illustrate the effectiveness of developed formalism we derive explicit expressions for the 2-cabled HOMFLY of virtual trefoil and virtual 3.2 knot, which involve respectively 12 and 14 intersections -- far beyond any dreams with alternative methods. As a more conceptual application, we describe a relation between the genus of fat graph and Turaev genus of original link diagram, which is currently the most effective tool for the search of thin knots.

Matrix model and dimensions at hypercube vertices

In hypercube approach to correlation functions in Chern-Simons theory (knot polynomials) the central role is played by the numbers of cycles, in which the link diagram is decomposed under different resolutions. Certain functions of these numbers are further interpreted as dimensions of graded spaces, associated with hypercube vertices. Finding these functions is, however, a somewhat non-trivial problem. In arXiv:1506.07516 it was suggested to solve it with the help of the matrix model technique, in the spirit of AMM/EO topological recursion. In this paper we further elaborate on this idea and provide a vast collection of non-trivial examples, related both to ordinary and virtual links and knots. Remarkably, most powerful versions of the formalism freely convert ordinary knots/links to virtual and back -- moreover, go beyond the knot-related set of the (2,2)-valent graphs.

On Undulation Invariants of Plane Curves

One of the general problems in algebraic geometry is to determine algorithmically whether or not a given geometric object, defined by explicit polynomial equations (e.g. a curve or a surface), satisfies a given property (e.g. has singularities or other distinctive features of interest). A classical example of such a problem, described by A.Cayley and G.Salmon in 1852, is to determine whether or not a given plane curve of degree r > 3 has undulation points -- the points where the tangent line meets the curve with multiplicity four. They proved that there exists an invariant of degree 6(r - 3)(3 r - 2) that vanishes if and only if the curve has undulation points. In this paper we give explicit formulae for this invariant in the case of quartics (r=4) and quintics (r=5), expressing it as the determinant of a matrix with polynomial entries, of sizes 21 times 21 and 36 times 36 respectively.

Resolvents and Seiberg-Witten representation for Gaussian beta-ensemble

The exact free energy of matrix model always obeys the Seiberg-Witten (SW) equations on a complex curve defined by singularities of the quasiclassical resolvent. The role of SW differential is played by the exact one-point resolvent. We show that these properties are preserved in generalization of matrix models to beta-ensembles. However, since the integrability and Harer-Zagier topological recursion are still unavailable for beta-ensembles, we need to rely upon the ordinary AMM/EO recursion to evaluate the first terms of the genus expansion. Consideration in this paper is restricted to the Gaussian model.

On relation between Nekrasov functions and BS periods in pure SU(N) case

We investigate the duality between the Nekrasov function and the quantized Seiberg-Witten prepotential, first guessed in [1] and further elaborated in [2] and [3]. We concentrate on providing more thorough checks than the ones presented in [3] and do not discuss the motivation and historical context of this duality. The check of the conjecture up to $o (\hbar^6, \ln (Λ))$ is done by hands for arbitrary $N$ (explicit formulas are presented). Moreover, details of the calculation that are essential for the computerization of the check are worked out. This allows us to test the conjecture up to $\hbar^6$ and up to higher powers of $Λ$ for $N = 2,3,4$. Only the case of pure SU(N) gauge theory is considered.
