Radiative decays of the 1$P$, 1$D$, 2$S$, and 2$P$ $\Lambda_c$ and 1$D$, 2$S$, and 2$P$ $\Xi_c$ charmed baryons

We analyze the radiative decays of the the 1$P$, 1$D$, 2$S$, and 2$P$ $\Lambda_c$ and 1$D$, 2$S$, and 2$P$ $\Xi_c$ charmed baryons, which belong to the flavor anti-triplet ($\bf {\bar 3}_{\rm F}$), using the constituent quark model. We compute electromagnetic transitions from ground and $P$-wave states to ground states, as well as from second-shell states to both ground and $P$-wave final states. Electromagnetic decay widths are especially valuable for identifying resonances when multiple states share the same mass and total decay width. We give branching ratios which can confirm the assignment of the $\Xi_c(3055)$ reported by LHCb. We also give branching ratios that can support the assignment of the $\Xi_c(3080)$, and discuss the possibilities for the $\Xi_c(3080)$ to be the 1$D$ state with $J^P=5/2^{+}$ or the 2$S$ with $J^P=1/2^{+}$. For the first time, this work provides calculations of electromagnetic decays for $D_\rho$-wave states, $\rho-\lambda$ mixed configurations, and $\rho$-mode radially excited states in singly charmed baryons of the flavor anti-triplet. Both experimental and model-dependent uncertainties are taken into account throughout our analysis.

Radiative decays of the $\Sigma_c$, $\Xi'_c$ and $\Omega_c$ charmed baryons

In this work, we study the radiative decays of the $\Sigma_c$, $\Xi'_c$ and $\Omega_c$ charmed baryons, which belong to the flavor sextet ($\bf {6}_{\rm F}$), within the constituent quark model formalism. The electromagnetic transitions are calculated from the ground and $P$-wave states to ground states, as well as from the second shell states to both the ground and $P$-wave final states. These decays play a crucial role in confirming the existence of certain resonances when strong decays are not allowed. Moreover, electromagnetic decay widths are particularly useful for identifying resonances when states have the same mass and total decay width. A relevant case is the $\Omega_c (3327)$ state, whose branching ratios between the strong decay channels are comparable; thus, the radiative decay widths may help assign this state. We also make the assignment of the recently discovered $\Xi'_c(2923)^{+}$ baryon, which is consistent with being the isospin partner of the $\Xi'_c(2923)^{0}$. This study presents, for the first time, the calculation of electromagnetic decays for $D_\rho$-wave states, $\rho-\lambda$ mixed states, and $\rho$-mode radially excited states in the charm sector. Throughout our calculations, we account for uncertainties arising from both experimental and model-dependent errors.

Flavor Enhanced Chromomagnetic Dipole Moment in the Bestest Little Higgs Framework

We investigate the anomalous Chromomagnetic Dipole Moment (CMDM), $\hat{\mu}_t^{\mathrm{BLHM}}$, of the top quark within the Bestest Little Higgs Model (BLHM). Our study incorporates novel interactions arising from the extended CKM matrix in the BLHM and explores a broad region of the experimentally allowed parameter space, yielding CMDM values on the order of $10^{-3}$. This result represents an improvement over previous CMDM calculations within the BLHM and makes it competitive with other beyond the Standard Model scenarios. Experimental and model parameter uncertainties are considered and propagated through our calculations, using a Monte Carlo method.

Radiative decays of the second shell $\Lambda_b$ and $\Xi_b$ bottom baryons

In this work, we investigate the radiative decays of the $\Lambda_b$ and $\Xi_b$ bottom baryons, which belong to the flavor anti-triplet ($\mathbf{\bar{3}}_{\rm F}$), within the constituent quark model formalism. The electromagnetic transitions are calculated from the second-shell states to both the ground and $P$-wave final states. These decays play a crucial role in confirming the existence of certain resonances. When strong decays are not allowed, the reconstruction of states relies on their electromagnetic decay channels. Moreover, electromagnetic decay widths are particularly useful for the identification of resonances when states have the same mass and total decay width. This study presents, for the first time, the calculation of electromagnetic decays for $D_\rho$-wave states, $\rho-\lambda$ mixed states, and $\rho$-mode radially excited states. Throughout our calculations, we account for uncertainties arising from both experimental and model-dependent errors.

$\Xi_c(2790)^{+/0}$ and $\Xi_c(2815)^{+/0}$ radiative decays

In this work, we study the $\Xi_c$ baryon electromagnetic decay widths within the constituent quark model formalism through an analysis of the transitions from $P-$wave states to ground states. We use the non-relativistic limit of the Hamiltonian of the electromagnetic interaction on keeping all the terms up to the order $m_j^{-1}$. We calculate the electromagnetic decay widths analytically, for the first time, without any further approximation. Specifically, our theoretical results for the $\Xi_c(2790)^{+/0}$ and $\Xi_c(2815)^{+/0}$ radiative decay widths, without the introduction of any additional parameters, display a significant agreement with the recent experimental values obtained by the Belle experiment. The agreement is due to the fact that we have not introduced further approximation to simplify the calculation of the difficult convective term, unlike what was done in previous studies. Our predictions may be useful for future experiments at the Belle, BABAR, and LHC experiments.

Exotic and physics-informed support vector machines for high energy physics

In this article, we explore machine learning techniques using support vector machines with two novel approaches: exotic and physics-informed support vector machines. Exotic support vector machines employ unconventional techniques such as genetic algorithms and boosting. Physics-informed support vector machines integrate the physics dynamics of a given high-energy physics process in a straightforward manner. The goal is to efficiently distinguish signal and background events in high-energy physics collision data. To test our algorithms, we perform computational experiments with simulated Drell-Yan events in proton-proton collisions. Our results highlight the superiority of the physics-informed support vector machines, emphasizing their potential in high-energy physics and promoting the inclusion of physics information in machine learning algorithms for future research.

Decay widths and mass spectra of single bottom baryons

We develop a Hamiltonian model that incorporates the spin, spin-orbit, and isospin interactions to determine the masses of the ground states of single-bottom baryons and their excitations up to the $D$-wave. Furthermore, we calculate the strong decay widths of single-bottom baryons using the $^3P_0$ model. Our calculations consider final states comprising bottom baryon-(vector/pseudoscalar) meson pairs and (octet/decuplet) baryon-(pseudoscalar/vector) bottom meson pairs within a constituent quark model. In that respect, this is the most complete investigation which has ever been performed in the single bottom baryon sector so far. Additionally, we compute the electromagnetic decay widths from $P$-wave states to ground states. The electromagnetic decays become dominant in cases where the strong decays are suppressed. The experimental uncertainties are propagated to the model parameters using a Monte Carlo bootstrap method. Our quantum number assignments, as well as our mass and strong decay width predictions, are in reasonable agreement with the available data. We also provide the partial decay widths for each open flavor channel. Our predictions of mass spectra and decay widths provide valuable information for the experiments seeking to identify new bottom baryons and knowledge of possible decay channels can aid in their identification in the data. Therefore, our results will be able to guide future searches for the undiscovered single bottom baryons at LHCb, ATLAS, and CMS.

Strong decay widths and mass spectra of charmed baryons

The total decay widths of the charmed baryons are calculated by means of the $^3P_0$ model. Our calculations consider in the final states: the charmed baryon-(vector/pseudoscalar) meson pairs and the (octet/ decuplet) baryon-(pseudoscalar/vector) charmed meson pairs, within a constituent quark model. Furthermore, we calculate the masses of the charmed baryon ground states and their excitations up to the $D$-wave in a constituent quark model both in the three-quark and in the quark-diquark schemes, utilizing a Hamiltonian model based on a harmonic oscillator potential plus a mass splitting term that encodes the spin, \mbox{spin-orbit}, isospin, and flavor interactions. The parameters of the Hamiltonian model are fitted to the experimental data of the charmed baryon masses and decay widths. As the experimental uncertainties of the data affect the fitted model parameters, we have thoroughly propagated these uncertainties into our predicted charmed baryon masses and decay widths via a Monte Carlo bootstrap approach, which is often absent in other theoretical studies on this subject. Our quantum number assignments and predictions of the masses and strong partial decay widths are in reasonable agreement with the available data. Thus, our results show the ability to guide future measurements in LHCb, Belle and Belle II experiments. Finally, the appendices provide some details of our calculations, in which we include the flavor coupling coefficients, which are useful for further theoretical investigations.

Measurement of the Parity-Odd Angular Distribution of Gamma Rays From Polarized Neutron Capture on $^{35}$Cl

We report a measurement of two energy-weighted gamma cascade angular distributions from polarized slow neutron capture on the ${}^{35}$Cl nucleus, one parity-odd correlation proportional to $\vec{s_{n}} \cdot \vec{k_γ}$ and one parity-even correlation proportional to $\vec{s_{n}} \cdot \vec{k_{n}} \times \vec{k_γ}$. A parity violating asymmetry can appear in this reaction due to the weak nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction which mixes opposite parity S and P-wave levels in the excited compound $^{36}$Cl nucleus formed upon slow neutron capture. If parity-violating (PV) and parity-conserving (PC) terms both exist, the measured differential cross section can be related to them via $\frac{dσ}{dΩ}\propto1+A_{γ, PV}\cosθ+A_{γ,PC}\sinθ$. The PV and PC asymmetries for energy-weighted gamma cascade angular distributions for polarized slow neutron capture on $^{35}$Cl averaged over the neutron energies from 2.27~meV to 9.53~meV were measured to be $A_{γ,PV}=(-23.9\pm0.7)\times 10^{-6}$ and $A_{γ,PC}=(0.1\pm0.7)\times 10^{-6}$. These results are consistent with previous experimental results. Systematic errors were quantified and shown to be small compared to the statistical error. These asymmetries in the angular distributions of the gamma rays emitted from the capture of polarized neutrons in $^{35}$Cl were used to verify the operation and data analysis procedures for the NPDGamma experiment which measured the parity-odd asymmetry in the angular distribution of gammas from polarized slow neutron capture on protons.

First Observation of $P$-odd $γ$ Asymmetry in Polarized Neutron Capture on Hydrogen

We report the first observation of the parity-violating 2.2 MeV gamma-ray asymmetry $A^{np}_γ$ in neutron-proton capture using polarized cold neutrons incident on a liquid parahydrogen target at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. $A^{np}_γ$ isolates the $ΔI=1$, \mbox{$^{3}S_{1}\rightarrow {^{3}P_{1}}$} component of the weak nucleon-nucleon interaction, which is dominated by pion exchange and can be directly related to a single coupling constant in either the DDH meson exchange model or pionless EFT. We measured $A^{np}_γ= [-3.0 \pm 1.4 (stat) \pm 0.2 (sys)]\times 10^{-8}$, which implies a DDH weak $πNN$ coupling of $h_π^{1} = [2.6 \pm 1.2(stat) \pm 0.2(sys)] \times 10^{-7}$ and a pionless EFT constant of $C^{^{3}S_{1}\rightarrow ^{3}P_{1}}/C_{0}=[-7.4 \pm 3.5 (stat) \pm 0.5 (sys)] \times 10^{-11}$ MeV$^{-1}$. We describe the experiment, data analysis, systematic uncertainties, and the implications of the result.
