Dissipative noninteracting scalar field theory: A covariant formulation

Caldeira-Leggett model of reservoir is generalized to a reservoir modeled by a continuum of real Klein-Gordon fields, instead of harmonic oscillators. A quantum Langevin type dissipative equation is obtained for the scalar field. The susceptibility of the medium is defined in terms of the reservoir Green's function and the coupling function satisfying causality condition. The connection between the coupling function and the susceptibility of the medium is found to be a Hankel transform from which the coupling function can be determined in terms of the susceptibility of the medium. Noise currents and their fluctuation-dissipation relation are obtained. In a homogeneous medium or reservoir, explicit form of the quantum scalar field, and its large-time limit, are found.

On oscillator-bath system: Exact propagator, Reduced density matrix and Green's function

The exact form of quantum propagator of a quantum oscillator interacting with a bosonic bath consisting of $N$ distinguished quantum oscillators with different frequencies is obtained in the Heisenberg picture. Reduced density matrix for oscillator is obtained. The kernel or Green's function connecting the initial density matrix of the oscillator to the density matrix in an arbitrary time is obtained and its connection to Feynman-Vernon influence functional is discussed. Weak coupling regime and squared mean values for position, momentum and energy of the oscillator are obtained in equilibrium.

Quantum propagator and characteristic equation in the presence of a chain of $\delta$-potentials

The quantum propagator and characteristic equation in the presence of a chain of $\delta$-potentials are obtained in the rectangular, cylindrical and spherical coordinate systems. The simplicity and efficiency of the method is illustrated via examples. As an application, the characteristic equation of a quantum harmonic oscillator confined to an infinite box is obtained. The roots of the characteristic equation, determining the energy eigenvalues of the restricted oscillator, are calculated approximately and compared with the existing numerical data.

Euler-Heisenberg lagrangian through Krein regularization

The Euler-Heisenberg effective action at the one-loop for a constant electromagnetic field is derived in Krein space quantization with Ford's idea of uctuated light-cone. In this work we present a perturbative, but convergent solution of the effective action. Without using any renormalization procedure, the result coincides with the famous renormalized Euler-Heisenberg action.

QED effective action in Krein space quantization

The one-loop effective action of QED is calculated by the Schwinger method in Krein space quantization. We show that the effective action is naturally fnite and regularized. It also coincides with the renormalized solution which was derived by Schwinger.

Scalar effective action in Krein space quantization

In this paper, the λϕ^4 scalar feld effective action, in the one-loop approximation, is calculated by using the Krein space quantization. We show that the effective action is naturally fnite and the singularity does not appear in the theory. The physical interaction mass, the running coupling constant and β-function are then calculated. The effective potential which is calculated in the Krein space quantization is different from the usual Hilbert space calculation, however we show that β-function is the same in the two different methods.
