Hot neutron matter from a Self-Consistent Green's Functions approach

A systematic study of the microscopic and thermodynamical properties of pure neutron matter at finite temperature within the Self-Consistent Green's Function approach is performed. The model dependence of these results is analyzed by both comparing the results obtained with two different microscopic interactions, the CD-BONN and the Argonne V18 potentials, and by analyzing the results obtained with other approaches, such as the Brueckner--Hartree--Fock approximation, the variational approach and the virial expansion.

Ferromagnetic instabilities in neutron matter at finite temperature with the Gogny interaction

The properties of spin polarized neutron matter are studied both at zero and finite temperature using the D1 and the D1P parameterizations of the Gogny interaction. The results show two different behaviors: whereas the D1P force exhibits a ferromagnetic transition at a density of $ρ_c \sim 1.31$ fm$^{-3}$ whose onset increases with temperature, no sign of such a transition is found for D1 at any density and temperature, in agreement with recent microscopic calculations.

The Management and Integration of Biomedical Knowledge: Application in the Health-e-Child Project (Position Paper)

The Health-e-Child project aims to develop an integrated healthcare platform for European paediatrics. In order to achieve a comprehensive view of childrens health, a complex integration of biomedical data, information, and knowledge is necessary. Ontologies will be used to formally define this domain knowledge and will form the basis for the medical knowledge management system. This paper introduces an innovative methodology for the vertical integration of biomedical knowledge. This approach will be largely clinician-centered and will enable the definition of ontology fragments, connections between them (semantic bridges) and enriched ontology fragments (views). The strategy for the specification and capture of fragments, bridges and views is outlined with preliminary examples demonstrated in the collection of biomedical information from hospital databases, biomedical ontologies, and biomedical public databases.

Microscopic calculations of spin polarized neutron matter at finite temperature

The properties of spin polarized neutron matter are studied both at zero and finite temperature within the framework of the Brueckner--Hartree--Fock formalism, using the Argonne v18 nucleon-nucleon interaction. The free energy, energy and entropy per particle are calculated for several values of the spin polarization, densities and temperatures together with the magnetic susceptibility of the system. The results show no indication of a ferromagnetic transition at any density and temperature.

Correlations in Hot Asymmetric Nuclear Matter

The single-particle spectral functions in asymmetric nuclear matter are computed using the ladder approximation within the theory of finite temperature Green's functions. The internal energy and the momentum distributions of protons and neutrons are studied as a function of the density and the asymmetry of the system. The proton states are more strongly depleted when the asymmetry increases while the occupation of the neutron states is enhanced as compared to the symmetric case. The self-consistent Green's function approach leads to slightly smaller energies as compared to the Brueckner Hartree Fock approach. This effect increases with density and thereby modifies the saturation density and leads to smaller symmetry energies.
