Event generator for the LHC

In this contribution the new event generation framework Sherpa will be presented. It aims at the full simulation of events at current and future high-energy experiments, in particular the LHC. Some results related to the production of jets at the Tevatron will be discussed.

Studying W+W- production at the Fermilab Tevatron with SHERPA

The merging procedure of tree-level matrix elements with the subsequent parton shower as implemented in SHERPA will be studied for the example of W boson pair production at the Fermilab Tevatron. Comparisons with fixed order calculations at leading and next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant and with other Monte Carlo simulations validate once more the impact and the quality of the merging algorithm and its implementation.

Apacic++ 2.0, A Parton Cascade In C++

The new version of the parton shower module APACIC++ for the SHERPA event generator framework is presented. It incorporates some features, that are specific for the consistent merging with multi-particle matrix elements at tree-level. This publication also includes some exemplary results and a short description of the upgraded class structure of APACIC++, version 2.0.

Predictions for multi-particle final states with SHERPA

In this contribution the new event generation framework SHERPA will be presented, which aims at a full simulation of events at current and future high-energy experiments. Some first results related to the production of weak vector bosons in association with jets at the Tevatron and the LHC will be discussed.

Towards a fragmentation model for Sherpa

Some results highlighting the status of a new version of a cluster fragmentation model for the Monte Carlo event generator Sherpa are presented. In its present version this model is capable of simulating e+e- annihilation events into light-quark and gluon jets. We compare results for different multiplicity and momentum distributions to available SLD and LEP data as well as to results obtained with Herwig and Pythia.

Monte Carlo models at the LHC

In this contribution the new event generation framework SHERPA will be presented, which aims at a full simulation of events at current and future high-energy experiments. Some first results exemplify its capabilities.

New tools for automatic cross section calculation

In this contribution the matrix element generator AMEGIC++ will be presented. It automatically generates Feynman diagrams, helicity amplitudes, and suitable phase space mappings for processes involving multi-particle final states within the Standard Model and some of its popular extensions.

Event Generator for Particle Production in High-Energy Collisions

Event generators are an indispensable tool for the preparation and analysis of particle-physics experiments. In this contribution, physics principles underlying the construction of such computer programs are discussed. Results, within and beyond the Standard Model of particle physics, obtained with a new event generator are presented. This generator is capable to describe signal processes for exotic physics and their backgrounds at electron-positron and proton-(anti)proton colliders.

Cross sections for multi-particle final states at a linear collider

In this paper total cross sections for signals and backgrounds of top- and Higgs-production channels in electron-positron collisions at a future linear collider are presented. All channels considered are characterized by the emergence of six-particle final states. The calculation takes into account the full set of tree-level amplitudes in each process. Two multi-purpose parton level generators, HELAC/PHEGAS and AMEGIC++ are used, their results are found to be in perfect agreement.

SHERPA 1.alpha, a proof-of-concept version

The new multipurpose event-generation framework SHERPA, acronym for Simulation for High-Energy Reactions of PArticles, is presented. It is entirely written in the object-oriented programming language C++. In its current form, it is able to completely simulate electron--positron and unresolved photon--photon collisions at high energies. Also, fully hadronic collisions, such as, e.g., proton--anti-proton, proton--proton, or resolved photon--photon reactions, can be described on the signal level.

Parton showers and multijet events

A Monte-Carlo event-generator has been developed which is dedicated to simulate electron-positron annihilations. Especially a new approach for the combination of matrix elements and parton showers ensures the independence of the hadronization parameters from the CMS energy. This enables for the first time the description of multijet-topologies, e.g. four jet angles, over a wide range of energy, without changing any parameter of the model. Covering all processes of the standard model our simulator is capable to describe experiments at present and future accelerators, i.e. the LEP collider and a possible Next Linear Collider(NLC).
