PLATOSpec: a precise spectrograph in support of space missions

The upcoming space missions that will characterize exoplanets, such as PLATO and Ariel, will collect huge amounts of data that will need to be complemented with ground-based observations. The aim of the PLATOSpec project is to perform science with an echelle spectrograph capable of measuring precise radial velocities. The main focus of the spectrograph will be to perform the initial screening and validation of exoplanetary candidates, in addition to study stellar variability. It will be possible to determine the physical properties of large exoplanets. The PLATOSpec blue-sensitive spectrograph, with a spectral range of 380 to 700\,nm and a resolving power of R=70,000, is installed on the 1.5-m telescope at the ESO La Silla Observatory in Chile. Initial results show that the radial-velocity limit given by the wavelength calibration is about 2-3 m/s. Tests on bright F-K main-sequence standard stars reveal a scatter of about 5 m/s over a few hours. The scatter over a few months is slightly higher. We demonstrate the capabilities of PLATOSpec on the mass determination of WASP-79 b and the spin-orbit alignment of WASP-62\,b via the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect. We show its possible usage on variable star research as demonstrated on the false-positive exoplanetary candidate TIC 238060327, which is proven a binary star. Investigation of line-profile variations of the roAp star alpha Cir shows that PLATOSpec can also be used for the surface mapping. Finally, we present new results on the active star UY Pic in the PLATO southern field. Our results show that PLATOSpec is a versatile spectrograph with great precision.

A Glioblastoma PDE-ODE model including chemotaxis and vasculature

In this work we analyse a PDE-ODE problem modelling the evolution of a Glioblastoma, which includes chemotaxis term directed to vasculature. First, we obtain some a priori estimates for the (possible) solutions of the model. In particular, under some conditions on the parameters, we obtain that the system does not develop blow-up at finite time. In addition, we design a fully discrete finite element scheme for the model which preserves some pointwise estimates of the continuous problem. Later, we make an adimensional study in order to reduce the number of parameters. Finally, we detect the main parameters determining different width of the ring formed by proliferative and necrotic cells and different regular/irregular behaviour of the tumor surface.

Determining parameters giving different growths of a new Glioblastoma differential model

In this paper we analyse a differential system related to a Glioblastoma growth. Using numerical simulations, we prove that model captures different kind of growth changing adequately the parameters of the model. Firstly, we make an adimensional study in order to reduce the number of parameters. Later, we detect the main parameters determining either different width of the ring formed by proliferative cells around necrotic ones or different regular/irregular behaviour of the tumor surface.

Theoretical and numerical analysis for a hybrid tumor model with diffusion depending on vasculature

In this work we analyse a PDE-ODE problem modelling the evolution of a Glioblastoma, which includes an anisotropic nonlinear diffusion term with a diffusion velocity increasing with respect to vasculature. First, we prove the existence of global in time weak-strong solutions using a regularization technique via an artificial diffusion in the ODE-system and a fixed point argument. In addition, stability results of the critical points are given under some constraints on parameters. Finally, we design a fully discrete finite element scheme for the model which preserves the pointwise and energy estimates of the continuous problem.

Finite temperature and dissipative corrections to the Gross-Pitaevskii equation from $λΦ^4$ one loop contributions

Starting with a scalar field in a thermal bath and using the one loop quantum correction potential, we rewrite the Klein-Gordon equation in its thermodynamical representation and study the behavior of this scalar field due to temperature variations in the equations of motion. We find the generalization of a Gross-Pitaevskii like equation for a relativistic Bose gas with finite temperature, the corresponding thermodynamic and viscosity expressions, and an expression for the postulate of the first law of the thermodynamics for this BECs. We also propose that the equations obtained might help to explain at some level the phase transition of a Bose-Einstein Condensate in terms of quantum field theory in a simple way.
