Quantum information processing attributes of J-aggregates

We examine the unique spectroscopic features which give rise to quantum information processing attributes of one-dimensional J-aggregate systems, and as revealed by entanglement measures such as the von Neumann entropy, Wootters concurrence and Wei-Goldbart geometric measure of entanglement. The effect of dispersion and resonance terms in the exciton-phonon interaction are analyzed using Green function formalism and present J-aggregate systems as robust channels for large scale energy propagation for a select range of parameters. We show that scaling of the third order optical response $χ^{(3)}$ with exciton delocalization size provides an experimentally demonstrable measure of quantifying multipartite entanglement in J-aggregates.

Grover-like search via Frenkel exciton trapping mechanism

We propose the physical implementation of a Grover-like search problem by means of Frenkel exciton trapping at a shallow isotopic impurity against a background of competing mechanisms. The search culminating at the impurity molecule, designated the "winner" site, is marked by its enhanced interaction with acoustic phonons at low temperatures. The quantum search proceeds with the assistance of an Oracle-like exciton-phonon interaction which addresses only the impurity site, via the Dyson propagator within the Green's function formalism. The optimum parameters of a graph lattice with long-range intersite interactions required to trap the exciton in the fastest time are determined, and estimates of error rates for the naphthalene doped organic system are evaluated. We extend analysis of quantum search to a fluctuating long-range interacting cycle (LRIC) graph lattice system.

Phonon-assisted decoherence in coupled quantum dots

We analyse various phonon-assisted mechanisms which contribute to the decoherence of excitonic qubits in quantum dot systems coupled by the Förster-type transfer process. We show the significant loss of coherence accompanied by dissipation due to charge carrier oscillations between qubit states by using a model of one-phonon assisted Förster-type transfer process. We obtain explicit expressions for the relaxation and dephasing times for excitonic qubits interacting with acoustic phonons via both deformation potential and piezoelectric coupling. We compare the decoherence times of the GaAs/AlGaAs material system with half times of concurrence decay in a 2$\otimes$2 bipartite mixed excitonic qubit system. We extend calculations to determine the influence of phonon mediated interactions on the non-unitary evolution of Berry phase in quantum dot systems.

Spin dynamics of low-dimensional excitons due to acoustic phonons

We investigate the spin dynamics of excitons interacting with acoustic phonons in quantum wells, quantum wires and quantum disks by employing a multiband model based on the $4\times4$ Luttinger Hamiltonian. We also use the Bir-Pikus Hamiltonian to model the coupling of excitons to both longitudinal acoustic phonons and transverse acoustic phonons, thereby providing us with a realistic framework in which to determine details of the spin dynamics of excitons. We use a fractional dimensional formulation to model the excitonic wavefunctions and we demonstrate explicitly the decrease of spin relaxation time with dimensionality. Our numerical results are consistent with experimental results of spin relaxation times for various configurations of the GaAs/Al$_{0.3}$Ga$_{0.7}$As material system. We find that longitudinal and transverse acoustic phonons are equally significant in processes of exciton spin relaxations involving acoustic phonons.

Reply to Comment on ``Two-dimensional charged-exciton complexes''

We respond to criticisms raised by K. Varga (cond-mat/9802262) and reaffirm that the results in our original paper obtained using a two-body analytical method remains valid within the framework of an effective excitonic composite model. The conceptual model of the excitonic systems as well as the numerical method based on variational functions utilized by Varga differ significantly from ours. Hence comparison of binding energies of the charged-biexciton remains questionable. In this reply, we discuss the shortcomings of modelling the charged-biexciton as a five-body system and treating excitonic complexes as atomic systems, as done in Varga's Comment.
