Light absorption and scattering of an assembly of spheroidal metal nanoparticles

The paper studies the optical properties of assemblies of metallic prolate and oblate nanospheroids. The frequency dependences of averaged absorption and scattering cross-sections, absorption, scattering and reflection coefficients are obtained. The calculations were performed for assemblies of spheroidal particles of various metals. The difference in the results of calculating the frequency characteristics of the absorption and scattering cross-sections for assemblies of prolate and oblate spheroids manifested itself in different location and value of the maxima. A qualitative similarity of the frequency dependences of the absorption and scattering coefficients was established. It is shown that the frequency curves of assemblies of spheroids of different metals differ significantly in the location of the extrema within the range from the visible to the ultraviolet region of the spectrum

Absorption and scattering of light by metal-dielectric nanoeggs

The optical and plasmonic properties of metal-dielectric nanoeggs were investigated in this study. Frequency dependencies of polarizability, absorption and scattering cross-sections, and radiation efficiency were determined. Expressions describing the size-dependent behavior of surface plasmon resonance frequencies were derived. The causes of blue and red shifts in the maxima of polarizability, absorption, and scattering cross-sections as well as variations in their number and amplitude were identified. Recommendations were proposed regarding the use of materials with maximum radiation efficiency in different spectral ranges.

Plasmonic resonances in the chain of spheroidal metallic nanoparticles on the dielectric substrate

The optical and plasmonic properties of the chains of prolate metallic spheroids of the dielectric substrate are studied in the work using the local field approximation. The case when spheroids are arranged in such a way that their major semi-axis belongs to the substrate plane is considered. The relations for the transverse component of the chain polarizability tensor and the frequency of the transverse chain resonance are obtained. The comparative analysis of spectral shifts of the maxima of the imaginary part of the transverse chain polarizability and the polarizability of isolated prolate spheroid is performed. The influence of the variation of the material of particles in the chain and the dielectric environment on the location of the maxima of the imaginary part of the transverse polarizability is studied. The limits of applicability of the theory proposed in the paper are established.

Optical and thermal effects in the neighborhood of the spherical layered nanoparticle of the "metallic core -- J-aggregate shell'' structure

The relations for the polarizability of the metallic nanoparticles, coated with the shell of cyanine dyes, are obtained in the article. The frequency dependencies for light absorption and scattering efficiencies, the heating of the composite nanoparticle and the electric field amplification in its neighborhood are studied. It is established that all the dependencies have three maxima which correspond to the frequencies of hybrid plasmon-exciton resonance. It is shown that an increase in content of metal in the nanoparticle causes a blue shift of the maxima from the visible part of the spectrum and a red shift of the maximum from ultraviolet frequency range. The issue of application of metal-organic nanoparticles in nanomedicine, in particular for the photothermal therapy of malignant neoplasms is studied.
