The effect of projection on the observed gas velocity fields in barred galaxies

The problem of determining the pattern of gas motions in the central cases -- noncircular motions in the triaxial bar potential and motions in circular orbits but with orientation parameters different from those of the main disk -- are shown to have similar observational manifestations in the line-of-sight velocity field of the gas. A reliable criterion is needed fo the observational data to be properly interpreted. To find such a criterion, we analyze two-dimensional nonlinear hydrodynamics models of gas motions in barred disk galaxies. The gas line-of-sight velocity and surface brightness distributions in the plane of the sky are constructed for various inclinations of the galactic plane to the line-of-sight and bar orientation angles. We show that using models of circular motions for inclinations $i > 60^\circ$ to analyze the velocity field can lead to the erroneous conclusions of a ``tilted (polar) disk'' at the circumnuclear region. However, it is possible to distinguish bars from tilted disks by comparing the mutual orientations of the photometric and dynamical axes. As an example, we consider the velocity field of the ionized gas in the galaxy NGC 972.

Strong non-circular motions of gas in the spiral galaxy NGC 1084

The results of $H_α$ and [NII]$λ6583$ observations of the spiral galaxy NGC 1084 at the SAO 6m telescope with a Fabry-Perot interferometer are presented. The complex structure of the emission line profile has revealed the presence of giant star formation regions (``spur'') in the NE part of the galaxy. In this region the $H_α$ line shows two distinct components, with line-of-sight velocity differences of $\pm(100-150)\km$. The first component corresponds to normal circular rotation. The second velocity component may be a signature of non-circular motions of the ionized gas in shock wave fronts. An increase of the ${[NII]}/H_α$ line ratio confirms the shock wave interpretation of these features. The ionized gas kinematics in this galaxy is discussed.

The structure and kinematics of AGN with ionization cones

Results of 2D spectral observations for 4 Sy galaxies with ionization cones are presented. Images in the [OIII] line, velocity fields of the ionized gas, stellar velocity and velocity dispersion fields were obtained at the SAO RAS 6m telescope. Non-circular gas motions and Z-shaped emission filaments could be explained as helical waves located in the ionization cone. This waves are generated by the hydrodynamical instability due to the velocity break between galactic ISM and outflowing matter from the AGN engine. The axis of cone lies close to the direction of a nuclear mini bar.

Giant Cyclones in Gaseous Discs of Spiral Galaxies

We report detection of giant cyclonic vortices in the gaseous disc of the spiral galaxy NGC 3631 in the reference frame rotating with the spiral pattern. A presence of such structures was predicted by the authors for galaxies, where the radial gradient of the perturbed velocity exceeds that of the rotational velocity. This situation really takes place in NGC 3631.

Nuclear kpc-sized disks of spiral galaxies

A comlex structure of nuclear disks of normal spiral galaxies was illustrated on the example of five galaxies, observed at 6m telescope. A problem of gravitational stability of nuclear disks is shortly discussed.
