Interplay of quark and meson degrees of freedom in a near-threshold resonance

We investigate the interplay of quark and meson degrees of freedom in a physical state representing a near-threshold resonance for the case of a single continuum channel. We demonstrate that such a near-threshold resonance may possess quite peculiar properties if both quark and meson dynamics generate weakly coupled near-threshold poles in the S-matrix. In particular, the scattering t-matrix may possess zeros in this case. We also discuss possible implications for production reactions as well as studies within lattice QCD.

Chiral symmetry, the angular content of the vector current in QED and QCD, and the holographic description of hadrons

We perform a general chiral symmetry and unitarity based analysis of a local process of the fermion-antifermion creation from the vacuum by a high-energy photon as well as an explicit partial wave analysis of the vector current in QED and QCD. It turns out that such a local process proceeds necessarily via a certain superposition of the $S$- and $D$-wave contributions. These constraints from chiral symmetry and unitarity are confronted then with the well-known theoretical and experimental results on $e^+e^-\toγ\to e^+e^-$, $e^+e^-\toγ\to μ^+μ^-$, and $e^+e^-\toγ\to q\bar{q}$ in the ultrarelativistic limit. It is shown that these well-known results are consistent with the $S+D$-wave structure of the vertex and are inconsistent with the pure $S$-wave interpretation of the vertex. Then a free quark loop in the $1^{--}$ channel, representing the leading term in the Operator Product Expansion, contains both $S$-wave and $D$-wave contributions. This fact rules out the possibility that there is only one radial trajectory for the $ρ$-mesons with the fixed $S$-wave content. It also implies that all holographic models that assume a pure $S$-wave content of the $ρ$-meson have to fail to satisfy the matching conditions at the ultraviolet border $z=0$.

Real-time approach to quark confined systems at finite temperatures

Generalised Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model for QCD is considered at finite temperatures in the framework of a real-time formalism. The proposed approach allows one to study various properties of the model at T>0, such as chiral symmetry breaking and restoration, properties of the bound-state spectrum, and so on.

Nature of X(3872) from data

Properties of the charmonium-like state X(3872) are investigated and its nature is discussed as based on the existing experimental data. In particular, we analyse the new data from Belle and BaBar Collaborations and argue that, while the BaBar data prefer the dynamically generated virtual state in the D\bar{D}* system, the new Belle data clearly indicate a sizable c\bar{c} 2^3P_1 component in the X wave function.

Deconfinement and quark-gluon plasma

The theory of confinement and deconfinement is discussed as based on the properties of the QCD vacuum. The latter are described by field correlators of colour-electric and colour-magnetic fields in the vacuum, which can be calculated analytically and on the lattice. As a result one obtains a self-consistent theory of the confined region in the (mu,T) plane with realistic hadron properties. At the boundary of the confining region, the colour-electric confining correlator vanishes, and the remaining correlators describe strong nonperturbative dynamics in the deconfined region with (weakly) bound states. Resulting equation of state for mu=0, p(T), (epsilon-3P)/T are in good agreement with lattice data. Phase transition occurs due to evaporation of a part of the colour-electric gluon condensate, and the resulting critical temperatures T_c(mu) for different n_f are in good correspondence with available data.

Spin-dependent interactions in quarkonia

The spin-dependent interactions in mesons are considered in detail in the framework of the Field Correlator Method. Analytic expressions for the spin-dependent potentials in heavy and light quarkonia are derived with the QCD string moment of inertia taken into account. Recent lattice data are analysed using these formulae and the data are shown to be consistent with very small values of the gluonic correlation length, <0.1 fm. The Field Correlator and the Eichten-Feinberg definitions of the spin-dependent potentials in the lowest, Gaussian approximation for the QCD vacuum are compared to one another and the two approaches are shown to be equivalent in the limit of a vanishing vacuum correlation length, whereas for finite values of the latter the difference between these two approaches can be explained by the contribution of the higher-order field corelators, starting from the quartic one.

Comment on "Once more about the KK molecule approach to the light scalars"

In this manuscript we comment on the criticism raised recently by Achasov and Kiselev [Phys. Rev. D 76, 077501 (2007)] on our work on the radiative decays phi to gamma a_0/f_0 [Eur. Phys. J. A 24, 437 (2005)]. Specifically, we demonstrate that their criticism relies on results that violate gauge-invariance and is therefore invalid.

Gluonic correlation length from spin-dependent potentials

The vacuum gluonic correlation length is extracted from recent lattice data on spin-dependent interquark potentials in heavy quarkonia. It is shown that the data are consistent with extremely small values of the correlation length, Tg<0.1 fm.

Dynamical suppression of the spin-orbit interaction in hadrons

Spin-dependent interaction in hadrons is considered in the approach of the QCD string. The string moment of inertia, which ensures the correct (inverse) Regge slope 2*pi*sigma, is found to suppress the spin-orbit interaction. For light quarks and moderate angular momenta the suppression constitutes around 25% whereas for large angular momenta the spin-orbit interaction is suppressed by the factor L^(-2/5). For heavy quarks the effect manifests itself as a string correction for the spin-dependent potential.

Chiral restoration in excited nucleons versus SU(6)

We compare axial charges of excited nucleons, as predicted by the chiral symmetry restoration picture, with the traditional, moderately successful for the ground-state baryons SU(6) symmetry. The axial charges of excited nucleons can (and will) be measured in lattice QCD simulations, and comparison of the lattice results with the two different symmetry schemes will give an insight on the origins of the excited hadron masses as well as on interrelations of chiral symmetry and confinement.

Spectra and decays of hybrid charmonia

QCD string model is employed to calculate the masses and spin splittings of lowest charmonium hybrid states with a magnetic gluon. Relative decay rates into various S- and P-wave D-meson pairs are calculated for these hybrids.

An approach to baryons in the framework of the microscopic Generalized Nambu-Jona-Lasinio chiral potential quark model is considered and quite general arguments are given in favor of effective restoration of chiral symmetry in excited baryons.

Radiative decays of hadronic molecules

It is argued that radiative decays of scalars a0/f0(980) can serve as a decisive tool in establishing the nature of the latter. In particular, predictions for the widths of the radiative decays S->gamma V (S=a0/f0(980), V=omega/rho/gamma) are given in the framework of the molecule model of the scalars. Finite-range corrections are discussed in detail for the two-gamma decays of hadronic molecules, with a special attention payed to the interplay of various scales involved in the problem and to the gauge invariance of the amplitude. The results are applied to the two-photon decay of the f0(980), and the existing experimental data on this decay are argued to support the molecule assignment for the scalar f0(980).

Chiral symmetry breaking and Lorentz nature of confinement

The Lorentz nature of confinement in a heavy-light quarkonium is investigated. It is demonstrated that an effective scalar interaction is generated selfconsistently as a result of chiral symmetry breaking, and this effective scalar interaction is responsible for the QCD string formation between the quark and the antiquark.

The nature of the light scalar mesons from their radiative decays

The nature of the light scalar mesons is one of the most intriguing open challenges in hadronic spectroscopy. It is argued that radiative decays involving these scalars can serve as an important decisive tool in establishing their nature. In particular, special emphasis is made on the radiative decays of the scalars themselves (in addition to the radiative decays of the phi-meson with the scalars appearing in the final state), including their two-photon decays. All the above mentioned processes are considered in detail in the (point-like) kaon molecule model of the scalars and explicit predictions for the decay widths are made. In addition, finite-range corrections to the point-like results are investigated, with a special attention payed to gauge invariance of the decay amplitude. Finally, the conclusion is made that experimental data on the radiative decays with the light scalar mesons involved strongly support the molecule assignment for the latter.

Chiral symmetry and the string description of excited hadrons

A large symmetry group is perhaps experimentally observed in excited hadrons which includes the chiral group U(2)_L x U(2)_R as a subgroup. To possess this large symmetry a dynamical model for excited hadrons, presumably a string model, should explain formation of chiral multiplets and, at the same time, predict coinciding slopes of the angular and radial Regge trajectories. This is possible only if both the dynamics of the string and the chirality of the quarks at the ends of the string are considered together. We construct a model-independent unitary transformation from the relativistic chiral basis to the ^{2S+1}L_J basis, commonly used in hadronic phenomenology as well as in the string models, and demonstrate that a hadron belonging to the given chiral representation is a fixed superposition of the basis vectors with different L's and S's. Thus the description of highly excited hadron in terms of a fixed L is not compatible with chiral symmetry and has to be disregarded in favour of the description in terms of the total hadron spin J. Therefore, dynamics of the string must deliver the principal quantum number ~n+J, in order chiral multiplets with different spins to become degenerate, as required by the large symmetry group.

Reconciling the X(3872) with the near-threshold enhancement in the D^0\bar{D}^{*0} final state

We investigate the enhancement in the D^0\bar{D}^0π^0 final state with the mass M=3875.2\pm 0.7^{+0.3}_{-1.6}\pm 0.8 MeV found recently by the Belle Collaboration in the B\to K D^0\bar{D}^0π^0 decay and test the possibility that this is yet another manifestation of the well-established resonance X(3872). We perform a combined Flatte analysis of the data for the D^0\bar{D}^0π^0 mode, and for the π^+π^- J/ψmode of the X(3872). Only if the X(3872) is a virtual state in the D^0\bar{D}^{*0} channel, the data on the new enhancement comply with those on the X(3872). In our fits, the mass distribution in the D^0\bar{D}^{*0} mode exhibits a peak at 2-3 MeV above the D^0\bar{D}^{*0} threshold, with a distinctive non-Breit-Wigner shape.

Chiral symmetry breaking and the Lorentz nature of confinement

We address the question of the Lorentz nature of the effective interquark interaction in QCD which leads to the formation of the QCD string between colour charges. In particular, we start from a manifestly vectorial fundamental interaction mediated by gluons and demonstrate that, as soon as chiral symmetry is broken spontaneously, the effective interquark interaction acquires a selfconsistently generated scalar part which is eventually responsible for the formation of the QCD string. We demonstrate this explicitly for a heavy-light quarkonium, using the approach of the Schwinger-Dyson-type equation and the quantum-mechanical Hamiltonian method of the QCD string with quarks at the ends.
