Measurement of the $e^+e^- \toπ^+π^- $ process cross section with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 collider in the energy region $0.525<\sqrt{s}<0.883$ GeV

The cross section of the process $e^+ e^-\toπ^+π^-$ has been measured in the Spherical Neutral Detector (SND) experiment at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider VEPP-2000 in the energy region $525 <\sqrt[]{s} <883$ MeV. The measurement is based on data with an integrated luminosity of about 4.6 pb$^{-1}$. The systematic uncertainty of the cross section determination is 0.8 % at $\sqrt{s}>0.600$ GeV. The $ρ$ meson parameters are obtained as $m_ρ= 775.3\pm 0.5\pm 0.6$ MeV, $Γ_ρ= 145.6\pm 0.6\pm 0.8$ MeV, $B_{ρ\to e^+ e^-}\times B_{ρ\toπ^+π^-} = (4.89\pm 0.02\pm 0.04)\times 10^{-5}$, and the parameters of the $e^+ e^-\toω\toπ^+π^-$ process, suppressed by $G$-parity, as $B_{ω\to e^+ e^-}\times B_{ω\toπ^+π^-}= (1.32\pm 0.06\pm 0.02)\times 10^{-6} $ and $ϕ_{ρω} = 110.7\pm 1.5\pm1.0$ degrees.

Study of dynamics of the process $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0$ in the energy range 1.15--2.00 GeV

The dynamics of the process $ e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0 $ is studied in the energy region from 1.15 to 2.00 GeV using data accumulated with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. The Dalitz plot distribution and $π^+π^-$ mass spectrum are analyzed in a model including the intermediate states $ρ(770)π$, $ρ(1450)π$, and $ωπ^0$. As a result, the energy dependences of the $ρ(770)π$ and $ρ(1450)π$ cross sections and the relative phases between the $ρ(770)π$ amplitude and the $ρ(1450)π$ and $ωπ^0$ amplitudes are obtained. The $ρ(1450)π$ cross section has a peak in the energy region of the $ω(1650)$ resonance (1.55-1.75 GeV). In this energy range the contributions of the $ρ(770)π$ and $ρ(1450)π$ states are of the same order of magnitude. No resonance structure near 1.65 GeV is observed in the $ρ(770)π$ cross section. We conclude that the intermediate state $ρ(1450)π$ gives a significant contribution to the decay of $ω(1650)\toπ^+π^-π^0$, whereas the $ρ(770)π$ mechanism dominates in the decay $ω(1420)\toπ^+π^-π^0$.

Study of the process $e^+e^- \to ηπ^0γ$ in the energy range $\sqrt{s} = \mbox{1.05-2.00}$ GeV with the SND detector

The process $e^+e^-\toηπ^0γ$ is studied in the center-of-mass energy range 1.05-2.00 GeV using data with an integrated luminosity of 94.5 pb$^{-1}$ collected by the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. The $e^+e^-\toηπ^0γ$ cross section is measured for the first time. It is shown that the dominant mechanism of this reaction is the transition through the $ωη$ intermediate state. The measured cross section of the subprocess $e^+e^-\toωη\toηπ^0γ$ is consistent with previous measurements in the $e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-π^0η$ mode. It is found, with a significance of 5.6$σ$, that the process $e^+e^-\toηπ^0γ$ is not completely described by hadronic vector-pseudoscalar intermediate states. The cross section of this missing contribution, which can originate from radiation processes, e. g. $e^+e^-\to a_{0}(1450)γ$, is measured. It is found to be 15-20 pb in the wide energy range from 1.3 to 1.9 GeV.

Search for direct production of the $f_1(1285)$ resonance in $e^+e^-$ collisions

A search for direct production of the $f_1(1285)$ resonance in $e^+e^-$ annihilation is performed with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. The analysis is based on data with an integrated luminosity of 15.1 pb$^{-1}$ accumulated in the center-of-mass energy range 1.2--1.4 GeV. Two $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)$ candidate events are found at the peak of the resonance and zero events beyond the resonance. The significance of the $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)$ signal is $2.5σ$. The cross section at the maximum of the resonance is found to be $σ(e^+e^-\to f_1)=45^{+33}_{-24}$ pb. The corresponding branching fraction $B(f_1(1285)\to e^+e^-)=(5.1^{+3.7}_{-2.7})\times 10^{-9}$. We consider this result as a first indication of the process $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)$. The measured branching fraction is consistent with the theoretical prediction.

Crossing integer spin resonance at VEPP-4M with conservation of beam polarization

A method proposed to preserve the electron beam polarization at the VEPP-4M collider during acceleration with crossing the integer (imperfection) spin resonance at energy E=1763 MeV has been successfully applied. It is based on full decompensation of the $ 0.6\times3.3$ Tesla$\times$meter integral of the KEDR detector longitudinal magnetic field due to the anti-solenoids 'switched-off'.

Measurement of the $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0η$ cross section below $\sqrt{s}=2$ GeV

The process $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0η$ is studied in the center-of-mass energy region below 2 GeV with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. The four intermediate states contribute to this process: $ωη$, $ϕη$, $a_0(980)ρ$, and a structureless $π^+π^-π^0η$ state. We measure the total $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0η$ cross section and the cross sections for its components: $ωη$, $ϕη$, and a sum of $a_0(980)ρ$ and the structureless state. Our results are in agreement with previous measurements and have comparable or better accuracies.

Precise measurement of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ between 1.84 and 3.72 GeV at the KEDR detector

The present work continues a series of the KEDR measurements of the $R$ value that started in 2010 at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider. By combining new data with our previous results in this energy range we measured the values of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ at nine center-of-mass energies between 3.08 and 3.72 GeV. The total accuracy is about or better than $2.6\%$ at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about $1.9\%$. Together with the previous precise $R$ measurement at KEDR in the energy range 1.84-3.05 GeV, it constitutes the most detailed high-precision $R$ measurement near the charmonium production threshold.

Measurement of $Γ_{ee}\times\mathcal{B}_{μμ}$ for $ψ(2S)$ meson

The product of the electronic width of the $ψ(2S)$ meson and the branching fraction of its decay to the muon pair was measured in the $e^{+}e^{-} \to ψ(2S) \to μ^{+}μ^{-}$ process using nine data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 6.5 pb$^{-1}$ collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider: \[ Γ_{ee}\times\mathcal{B}_{μμ} = 19.3 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.5 ~\text{eV}. \] Adding the previous KEDR results on hadronic and leptonic channels, the values of the $ψ(2S)$ electronic width were obtained under two assumptions: either with the assumption of lepton universality \[ Γ_{ee} = 2.279 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.042 ~\text{keV} \] or without it, summing up hadronic and three independent leptonic channels: \[ Γ_{ee} = 2.282 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.042 ~\text{keV}. \]

Measurement of $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ)$ with KEDR detector

The product of the electronic width of the $J/ψ$ meson and the branching fractions of its decay to hadrons and electrons has been measured using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider. The obtained values are: $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ) = 5.550 \pm 0.056 \pm 0.089 \, \text{keV}, $ $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ) \cdot \mathcal{B}_\text{hadrons}(J/ψ) = 4.884 \pm 0.048 \pm 0.078 \, \text{keV}, $ $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ) \cdot \mathcal{B}_{ee}(J/ψ) = 0.3331 \pm 0.0066 \pm 0.0040 \, \text{keV}.$ The uncertainties shown are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the result presented and the world-average value of the electronic branching fraction, one obtains the total width of the $J/ψ$ meson: $Γ= 92.94 \pm 1.83 \, \text{keV}.$ These results are consistent with the previous experiments.

Measurement of the $e^+e^- \to ηπ^+π^-$ cross section with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 collider

The $e^+e^- \to ηπ^+π^-$ cross section is measured at the SND detector in the $η$ decay mode $η\to 3π^0$. The analysis is based on the data sample with an integrated luminosity of 32.7 pb$^{-1}$ collected at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider in the center-of-mass energy range $\sqrt{s}=1.075-2.000$ GeV. The data obtained in the $η\to 3π^0$ decay mode are found to be in agreement with the previous SND measurements in the $η\to γγ$ mode. Therefore the measurements in the two modes are combined.

Response of microchannel plates in ionization mode to single particles and electromagnetic showers

Hundreds of concurrent collisions per bunch crossing are expected at future hadron colliders. Precision timing calorimetry has been advocated as a way to mitigate the pileup effects and, thanks to their excellent time resolution, microchannel plates (MCPs) are good candidate detectors for this goal. We report on the response of MCPs, used as secondary emission detectors, to single relativistic particles and to electromagnetic showers. Several prototypes, with different geometries and characteristics, were exposed to particle beams at the INFN-LNF Beam Test Facility and at CERN. Their time resolution and efficiency are measured for single particles and as a function of the multiplicity of particles. Efficiencies between 50% and 90% to single relativistic particles are reached, and up to 100% in presence of a large number of particles. Time resolutions between 20ps and 30ps are obtained.

Updated measurement of the $e^+e^- \to ωπ^0 \to π^0π^0γ$ cross section with the SND detector

We analyze a 37 pb$^{-1}$ data sample collected with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider in the center-of-mass energy range 1.05--2.00 GeV and present an updated measurement of the $e^+e^- \to ωπ^0 \to π^0π^0γ$ cross section. In particular, we correct the mistake in radiative correction calculation made in our previous measurement based on a part of the data. The measured cross section is fitted with the vector meson dominance model with three $ρ$-like states and used to test the conserved vector current hypothesis in the $τ^-\toωπ^-ν_τ$ decay.
