All-plasmonic switching effect in the graphene nanostructures containing quantum emitters

Nonlinear plasmonic effects in perspective 2D materials containing low-dimensional quantum emitters can be a basis of a novel technological platform for the fabrication of fast all-plasmonic triggers, transistors, and sensors. This article considers the conditions for achieving a strong plasmon-exciton coupling in the system with quantum nanowire (NW) placed in proximity to the nanostructured graphene sheets. In the condition of strong coupling, nonlinear interaction between two surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) modes propagating along the graphene waveguide integrated with a stub nanoresonator loaded with a core-shell semiconductor NWs is investigated. Using the 2D full-wave electromagnetic simulation, we studied the different transmittance regimes of the stub with NW for both the strong pump SPP and weak signal SPP tuned to interband and intraband transition in NW, respectively. We found such a regime of NW-SPP interaction that corresponds to the destructive interference with the signal SPP transmittance through the stub less than 7% in the case for pump SPP to be turned off. In contrast, the turning on the pump SPP leads to a transition to constructive interference in the stub and enhancement of signal SPP transmittance to 93%. In our model, the effect of plasmonic switching occurs with a rate of 50 GHz at wavelength 8 um for signal SPP localized inside 20 nm graphene stub loaded with core-shell InAs/ZnS NW.

Nonlinear plasmonic switching in graphene stub nanoresonator loaded with core-shell quantum dot

We study theoretically a problem of nonlinear interaction between two surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) modes propagating along the graphene waveguide integrated with a stub nanoresonator loaded with a core-shell quantum dot (QD). The conditions of strong coupling and very narrowband resonance for Ladder-type SPP-QD interaction in nanoresonator leading to $π$-phase shift of signal SPP mode are established and discussed. Using the full-wave electromagnetic simulation we demonstrate that turning on the pump SPP leads to a transition from destructive to constructive interference in the stub nanoresonator and subsequent effect of switching from locking to transmitting the signal SPP through the waveguide. On the base of the obtained results we develop the model of all-plasmonic graphene transistor with optimized characteristics including the size about $25$ nm and the clock frequency about $100$ GHz functioning at the near-infrared wavelength range.

Formation of Plasmon-Polariton Pulses in the Cooperative Decay of Excitons of Quantum Dots Near a Metal Surface

The formation of pulses of surface electromagnetic waves in a metal/dielectric interface is considered in the process of cooperative decay of excitons of quantum dots distributed near a metal surface in a dielectric layer. It is shown that the efficiency of exciton energy transfer to excited plasmons can be increased by selecting the dielectric material with specified values of the complex permittivity. It is found that in the mean field approximation the semiclassical model of formation of plasmon pulses in the system under study is reduced to the pendulum equation with the additional term of nonlinear losses.

Noise-induced topological transformations of vortex solitons in optical fibers filled with a cold atomic gas

We consider the influence of optical and temperature-dependent atomic fluctuations on the formation and propagation of optical vortex solitons in dense media realized as hollow-core optical fibers filled with a cold atomic gas in presence of optical pumping. We show different perturbation-induced scenaria of complete destruction and smooth transformations of the topological characteristics of localized optical structures in hollow-core fiber. The maximum levels of optical and atomic fluctuations at which the soliton regime can be maintained has been determined. The estimates for these levels show an opportunity to observe the optical vortex solitions in the core-filling gas of the fiber for temperatures smaller than the critical temperature for Bose-Einstein condensate.

Josephson dynamics for coupled polariton modes under the atom-field interaction in the cavity

We consider a new approach to the problem of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of polaritons for atom-field interaction under the strong coupling regime in the cavity. We investigate the dynamics of two macroscopically populated polariton modes corresponding to the upper and lower branch energy states coupled via Kerr-like nonlinearity of atomic medium. We found out the dispersion relations for new type of collective excitations in the system under consideration. Various temporal regimes like linear (nonlinear) Josephson transition and/or Rabi oscillations, macroscopic quantum self-trapping (MQST) dynamics for population imbalance of polariton modes are predicted. We also examine the switching properties for time-averaged population imbalance depending on initial conditions, effective nonlinear parameter of atomic medium and kinetic energy of low-branch polaritons.

Quantum operational measurement of amplitude and phase parameters for SU(3)-symmetry optical field

We consider a new approach to describe a quantum optical Bose-system with internal Gell-Mann symmetry by the SU(3)-symmetry polarization map in Hilbert space. The operational measurement in density (or coherency) matrix elements for the three mode optical field is discussed for the first time. We have introduced a set of operators that describes the quantum measurement procedure and the behavior of fluctuations for the amplitude and phase characteristics of three level system. The original twelve-port interferometer for parallel measurements of the Gell-Mann parameters is proposed. The quantum properties of W-qutrit states under the measurement procedure are examined.
