Non-Abelian aether-like term in four dimensions

The non-Abelian aether-like Lorentz-breaking term, involving triple and quartic self-coupling vertices, is generated from the non-Abelian generalization of the Lorentz-breaking extended QED including only a minimal spinor-vector interaction. This term is shown explicitly to be finite and non-ambiguous.

Emergent gauge bosons and dynamical symmetry breaking in a four-fermion Lifshitz model

We consider the four-fermion Lifshitz model, introduce in this model an auxiliary vector field, and generate an effective dynamics for this field. We explicitly demonstrate that within this dynamics, the effective bumblebee potential for the vector field naturally arises as a one-loop correction and allows for the dynamical breaking of the rotational symmetry.

Renormalization in Nonminimal Lorentz-Violating Field Theory

We provide the first step towards renormalization in a nonminimal Lorentz-violating model consisting of normal scalars and modified fermions with mass dimension five operators. We compute the radiative corrections corresponding to the scalar self-energy, and we show that some divergencies are improved and in the scalar sector they are finite. The pole mass of the scalar two-point function is found and shown to lead to modifications of asymptotic states.

On quantum aspects of the higher-derivative Lorentz-breaking extension of QED

We consider the higher-derivative Lorentz-breaking extension of QED, where the new terms are the Myers-Pospelov-like ones in gauge and spinor sectors, and the higher--derivative CFJ term. For this theory, we study its tree-level dynamics, discuss the dispersion relation, and present one more scheme for its perturbative generation, including the finite temperature case. Also, we develop a method to study perturbative unitarity based on consistent rotation of the theory to Euclidean space. We use this method to verify explicitly that for special choices of the Lorentz-breaking vector, the unitarity is preserved at the one-loop level, even in the presence of higher time derivatives.

Fermionic Casimir effect in a field theory model with Lorentz symmetry violation

In this paper, we evaluate the Casimir energy and pressure for a massive fermionic field confined in the region between two parallel plates. In order to implement this confinement we impose the standard MIT bag boundary on the plates for the fermionic field. In this paper we consider a quantum field theory model with a CPT even, aether-like Lorentz symmetry violation. It turns out that the fermionic Casimir energy and pressure depend on the direction of the constant vector that implements the Lorentz symmetry breaking.

Global Monopole in Palatini f(R) gravity

We consider the space-time metric generated by a global monopole in an extension of General Relativity (GR) of the form $f(\mathcal{R})=\mathcal{R}-λ\mathcal{R}^2$. The theory is formulated in the metric-affine (or Palatini) formalism and exact analytical solutions are obtained. For $λ<0$, one finds that the solution has the same characteristics as the Schwarzschild black hole with a monopole charge in Einstein's GR. For $λ>0$, instead, the metric is more closely related to the Reissner-Nordström metric with a monopole charge and, in addition, it possesses a wormhole-like structure that allows for the geodesic completeness of the space-time. Our solution recovers the expected limits when $λ=0$ and also at the asymptotic far limit. The angular deflection of light in this spacetime in the weak field regime is also calculated.

Effective Potential in the 3D Massive 2-form Gauge Superfield Theory

In the $\mathcal{N}=1$, $d=3$ superspace, we propose a massive superfield theory formulated in terms of a spinor gauge superfield, whose component content includes a two-form field, and a real scalar matter superfield. For this model, we explicitly calculate the one-loop correction to the superfield effective potential. In particular, we show that the one-loop effective potential is independent the gauge-fixing parameters.

Dynamical gauge symmetry breaking in lower-dimensional Lorentz-violating supersymmetric theory

In this work we study the dynamical generation of mass in the Lorentz-violating low-dimensional Super-Yang-Mills theory in the aether superspace coupled to a scalar matter. We also suggest that our studies can be applied for condensed matter systems, especially lower-dimensional superconductors and topological insulators. In low dimensional materials, the parameter $Δ$ generated by presence of the aether term can be interpreted as a quantity that renormalizes the propagation velocity of the bosonic mode with respect to the Fermi velocity.

Radiative corrections and Lorentz violation

Radiative corrections in Lorentz violating (LV) models have already received a lot of attention in the literature in recent years, with many instances where a LV operator in one sector of the Standard Model Extension (SME) generates, via loop corrections, one of the LV coefficients in the photon sector, which is probably the most understood and well constrained part of the SME. In many of these works, however, the now standard notation of the SME is not used, which can obscure the comparison of different results, and their possible phenomenological relevance. In this work, we fill this gap, trying to build up a more general perspective on the topic, bringing many of the results to the SME conventional notation and commenting on their possible phenomenological relevance. We uncover one example where a result already presented in the literature can be used to place a stronger bound on the temporal component of the b_μ coefficient of the fermion sector of the SME.

One-loop corrections in the z=3 Lifshitz extension of QED

In this work we study a z=3 Horava-Lifshitz-like extension of QED in (3+1) dimensions. We calculate the one-loop radiative corrections to the two and three-point functions of the gauge and fermion fields. Such corrections were achieved using the perturbative approach and a dimensional regularization was performed only in the spatial sector. Renormalization was required to eliminate the divergent contributions emergent from the photon and electron self-energies and from the three-point function. We verify that the one-loop vertex functions satisfy the usual Ward identities and using renormalization group methods we show that the model is asymptotically free.

Renormalization in a Lorentz-violating model and higher-order operators

The renormalization in a Lorentz-breaking scalar-spinor higher-derivative model involving $ϕ^4$ self-interaction and the Yukawa-like coupling is studied. We explicitly de- monstrate that the convergence is improved in comparison with the usual scalar-spinor model, so, the theory is super-renormalizable, with no divergences beyond four loops. We compute the one-loop corrections to the propagators for the scalar and fermionic fields and show that in the presence of higher-order Lorentz invariance violation, the poles that dominate the physical theory, are driven away from the standard on-shell pole mass due to radiatively induced lower dimensional operators. The new operators change the standard gamma-matrix structure of the two-point functions, introduce large Lorentz-breaking corrections and lead to modifications in the renormalization conditions of the theory. We found the physical pole mass in each sector of our model.

Thermal corrections to the Casimir energy in a Lorentz-breaking scalar field theory

In this paper, we investigate the thermal effect on the Casimir energy associated with a massive scalar quantum field confined between two large parallel plates in a CPT-even, aether-like Lorentz-breaking scalar field theory. In order to do that we consider a nonzero chemical potential for the scalar field assumed to be in thermal equilibrium at some finite temperature. The calculations of the energies are developed by using the Abel-Plana summation formula, and the corresponding results are analyzed in several asymptotic regimes of the parameters of the system, like mass, separations between the plates and temperature.

Higher-order one-loop contributions in Lorentz-breaking QED

We calculate higher-order quantum contributions in different Lorentz-violating parameters to the gauge sector of the extended QED. As a result of this one-loop calculation, some terms which do not produce first-order corrections, contribute with nontrivial gauge-invariant second-order quantum inductions.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking in the Nonlocal Scalar QED

We investigate the spontaneous symmetry breaking in a nonlocal version of the scalar QED. When the mass parameter $m^2$ satisfies the requirement $m^2>0$, we find that all fields, including the Nambu-Goldstone field, acquire a non-zero mass dependent on the nonlocal scales. On the other hand, when $m^2=0$, we find that the nonlocal corrections to the masses are very small and can be neglected.

Traversable wormholes in Chern-Simons modified gravity

In this paper, we examine the existence of traversable wormhole solutions within the Chern-Simons modified gravity. We find a non-trivial solution in the theory with dynamical Chern-Simons coefficient in the absence of matter sources. This result displays a situation opposite to GR where the matter sources violating the energy conditions are required.

On the CPT-even Lorentz-breaking extension of the QED

In this paper, we describe the quantum electrodynamics added by Lorentz-violating CPT-even terms in the context of the standard model extension. We focus our attention on the fermion sector, represented by the CPT-even symmetric Lorentz-breaking tensor $c_{μν}$. We adopt a generic form that parametrizes the components of $c_{μν}$ in terms of one four-vector, namely, $c_{μν}=u_μu_ν- ζ\frac{u^2}{4}g_{μν}$. We then generate perturbatively, up to the third order in this tensor, the aether-like term for the gauge field. Finally, we discuss the renormalization scheme for the gauge propagator, by taking into account $c_{μν}$ traceless ($ζ=1)$ and, trivially, $c_{μν}=u_μu_ν$ ($ζ=0$).

Effective potential in Lorentz-breaking field theory models

We calculate explicitly the one-loop effective potential in different Lorentz-breaking field theory models. First, we consider a Yukawa-like theory and, then, some examples of Lorentz-violating extensions of scalar QED. We observed, for the extended QED models, that the resulting effective potential converges to the known result in the limit in which Lorentz-symmetry is restored. Besides, the one-loop corrections to the effective potential in all the cases we studied depend on the background tensors responsible for the Lorentz symmetry violation. This have consequences in physical quantities like, for example, in the induced mass due to Coleman-Weinberg mechanism.
