Altermagnetism imaged and controlled down to the nanoscale

Nanoscale detection and control of the magnetic order underpins a broad spectrum of fundamental research and practical device applications. The key principle involved is the breaking of time-reversal ($\cal{T}$) symmetry, which in ferromagnets is generated by an internal magnetization. However, the presence of a net-magnetization also imposes severe limitations on compatibility with other prominent phases ranging from superconductors to topological insulators, as well as on spintronic device scalability. Recently, altermagnetism has been proposed as a solution to this restriction, since it shares the enabling $\cal{T}$-symmetry breaking characteristic of ferromagnetism, combined with the antiferromagnetic-like vanishing net-magnetization. To date, altermagnetic ordering has been inferred from spatially averaged probes. Here, we demonstrate nanoscale imaging and control of altermagnetic ordering ranging from nanoscale vortices to domain walls to microscale single-domain states in MnTe. We combine the $\cal{T}$-symmetry breaking sensitivity of X-ray magnetic circular dichroism with magnetic linear dichroism and photoemission electron microscopy, to achieve detailed imaging of the local altermagnetic ordering vector. A rich variety of spin configurations can be imposed using microstructure patterning or thermal cycling in magnetic fields. The demonstrated detection and control of altermagnetism paves the way for future research ranging from ultra-scalable digital and neuromorphic spintronic devices, to the interplay of altermagnetism with non-dissipative superconducting or topological phases.

Detection of unresolved binaries with multicolor photometry

The principal goal of this paper is to specify conditions of detection of unresolved binaries by multicolor photometry. We have developed a method for estimating the critical distance at which an unresolved binary of given mass and age can be detected. The method is applied to the photometric system of the planned Lyra-B spaceborne experiment. We have shown that some types of unresolved binary stars can be discovered and distinguished from single stars solely by means of photometric observations.

On the Atmospheric Extinction Reduction Procedure in Multiband Wide-Field Photometric Surveys

We propose an improved method for the atmospheric extinction reduction within optical photometry. Our method is based on the simultaneous multicolor observations of photometric standards. Such data are now available within the modern wide-field sky surveys and contain a large amount of information about instant atmospheric conditions. So, it became possible to estimate the extinction parameters on the basis of a quite short observational dataset and, hence, to trace the rapid stars twinkling accurately. Having been developed for a new MiniMegaTORTORA observational system, the proposed method can be adopted for a wide range of modern observational programs.

Polarization in binary microlensing events

The light received by source stars in microlensing events may be significantly polarized if both an efficient photon scattering mechanism is active in the source stellar atmosphere and a differential magnification is therein induced by the lensing system. The best candidate events for observing polarization are highly magnified events with source stars belonging to the class of cool, giant stars {in which the stellar light is polarized by photon scattering on dust grains contained in their envelopes. The presence in the stellar atmosphere of an internal cavity devoid of dust produces polarization profiles with a two peaks structure. Hence, the time interval between them gives an important observable quantity directly related to the size of the internal cavity and to the model parameters of the lens system.} We show that {during a microlensing event} the expected polarization variability can solve an ambiguity, that arises in some cases, related to the binary or planetary lensing interpretation of the perturbations observed near the maximum of the event light-curve. We consider a specific event case for which the parameter values corresponding to the two solutions are given. Then, assuming a polarization model for the source star, we compute the two expected polarization profiles. The position of the two peaks appearing in the polarization curves and the characteristic time interval between them allow us to distinguish between the binary and planetary lens solutions.

Condensate mechanism of conformal symmetry breaking

The low energy Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation, Higgs particle mass value, and the new observational cosmological data are considered as evidence of the condensate mechanism of conformal symmetry breaking at the quantum level. The condensate mechanism occurs by means of normal ordering of field operators in QCD, Minimal Standard Model of electroweak interactions without the Higgs potential, and the Dirac conformal General Relativity with long range forces.

Evidence for multiband superconductivity in the heavy fermion compound UNi2Al3

Epitaxial thin films of the heavy fermion superconductor UNi2Al3 with Tc{max}=0.98K were investigated. The transition temperature Tc depends on the current direction which can be related to superconducting gaps opening at different temperatures. Also the influence of the magnetic ordering at TN=5K on R(T) is strongly anisotropic indicating different coupling between the magnetic moments and itinerant charge carriers on the multi-sheeted Fermi surface. The upper critical field Hc2(T) suggests an unconventional spin-singlet superconducting state.

Cosmological Consequences of Conformal General Relativity

We consider cosmological consequences of a conformal-invariant unified theory which is dynamically equivalent to general relativity and is given in a space with the geometry of similarity. We show that the conformal-invariant theory offers new explanations for to such problems as the arrow of time, initial cosmic data, dark matter and accelerating evolution of the universe in the dust stage.
