Real Topological Recursions and WDVV Relations

Following a question of K. Hori at K. Fukaya's 60th birthday conference, we relate the recently established WDVV-type relations for real Gromov-Witten invariants to topological recursion relations in a real setting. We also describe precisely the connections between the relations themselves previously observed by A. Alcolado.

Real Ruan-Tian Perturbations

Ruan-Tian deformations of the Cauchy-Riemann operator enable a geometric definition of (standard) Gromov-Witten invariants of semi-positive symplectic manifolds in arbitrary genera. We describe an analogue of these deformations compatible with our recent construction of real Gromov-Witten invariants in arbitrary genera. Our approach avoids the need for an embedding of the universal curve into a smooth manifold and systematizes the deformation-obstruction setup behind constructions of Gromov-Witten invariants.

A Comparison Theorem for Gromov-Witten Invariants in the Symplectic Category

In this paper we exploit the geometric approach to the virtual fundamental class, due to Fukaya-Ono and Li-Tian, to compare the virtual fundamental classes of stable maps to a symplectic manifold and a symplectic submanifold whenever all constrained stable maps to the former are contained in the latter to first order. This extends versions of a statement well-known in the algebraic category to the symplectic category, where it appears to be less familiar. The latter's inherent flexibility then leads to a confirmation of Pandharipande's Gopakumar-Vafa prediction for GW-invariants of Fano classes in 6-dimensional symplectic manifolds. In a forthcoming paper, we use a similar approach to relative Gromov-Witten invariants and the absolute/relative correspondence in genus~0.

Enumerative Geometry of Calabi-Yau 5-Folds

Gromov-Witten theory is used to define an enumerative geometry of curves in Calabi-Yau 5-folds. We find recursions for meeting numbers of genus 0 curves, and we determine the contributions of moving multiple covers of genus 0 curves to the genus 1 Gromov-Witten invariants. The resulting invariants, conjectured to be integral, are analogous to the previously defined BPS counts for Calabi-Yau 3 and 4-folds. We comment on the situation in higher dimensions where new issues arise. Two main examples are considered: the local Calabi-Yau P^2 with balanced normal bundle 3O(-1) and the compact Calabi-Yau hypersurface X_7 in P^6. In the former case, a closed form for our integer invariants has been conjectured by G. Martin. In the latter case, we recover in low degrees the classical enumeration of elliptic curves by Ellingsrud and Stromme.

Enumerative vs. Symplectic Invariants and Obstruction Bundles

We give detailed descriptions of gluing pseudoholomorphic maps in symplectic geometry, especially in the presence of an obstruction bundle. The main motivation is to try to compare the symplectic and enumerative invariants of algebraic manifolds. These descriptions can also be used to enumerate rational curves with high-order degeneracies of local nature in projective spaces.

Completion of Katz-Qin-Ruan's Enumeration of Genus-Two Plane Curves

We give a formula for the number of genus-two fixed-complex-structure degree-d plane curves passing through 3d-2 points in general position. This is achieved by completing Katz-Qin-Ruan's approach. This paper's formula agrees with the one obtained by the author in a completely different way.
