A Resource-centric Analysis and Optimization of NoSQL Workloads using Distressed Resource Volume Metric

Large-scale managed cloud databases leverage sophisticated load Packing and Migration (PAM) algorithms, which provide the efficiencies necessary for running these services at scale on cloud resources. Research into optimizing the resources and reliability of cloud databases at massive scales is limited by a lack of public NoSQL workloads. We address this in the context of Cosmos DB, Microsoft's flagship cloud-hosted NoSQL database. We first propose open-source NoSQL workloads from real Cosmos DB clusters, and analyze these traces to derive a novel reliability metric, Distressed Resource Volume (DRV), which captures the quality of service experienced by the end user. We then develop an open-source policy simulation framework, LoadStar, powered by a non-parametric statistical model of estimating the QoS of real traffic patterns. These form a reusable benchmark pipeline for validating policies for resource-centric NoSQL workloads. We then define a resource optimization problem for placing Cosmos DB replicas onto VM nodes, develop the Luna model for forecasting future load distributions, and the Orbit PAM algorithm that uses these forecasts to trigger and rebalance stressed replicas, to reduce tail-errors. Our experiments, validated using LoadStar for these workloads, demonstrate Orbit's benefits over the existing Cosmos DB policy and a worst-fit optimized baseline, with higher load delivered at lower error rates and up to $35\%$ reduction in resources. These have been deployed in production, with potential savings of $\$100M$s/yr while improving service reliability for millions of customers.

SCLARO: A Dataset for Grounded Scenario-Level Scene Understanding and ScenarioCLIP for Benchmarking

In the paradigm of computer vision-based precise real-world scene understanding, joint reasoning in terms of contextual understanding about the objects present in a scene, their inter-object relations, and the action being performed is an essential prerequisite. However, prior works have not addressed all three jointly, and no large-scale dataset provides grounded annotations at all three levels across diverse visual scenarios. Hence, this work introduces the SCLARO (Scene-Contextual Localisation of Actions, Relations & Objects) dataset, consisting of 615,805 images spanning indoor, outdoor, and driving scenarios, annotated with global action captions, object bounding boxes, and relation triplets that supply structured scene context beyond a free-text caption. To benchmark the dataset, we propose ScenarioCLIP, a tri-level reference model that jointly encodes global scene context, objects, and inter-object relations using disentangled encoders and EMA-based knowledge distillation. We benchmark across a comprehensive suite of tasks on the SCLARO Dataset, namely zero-shot retrieval, linear probe, object detection, predicate classification, scene-graph classification, and out-of-domain generalisation. ScenarioCLIP's disentangled encoders improve over the previous works, such as PyramidCLIP's shared encoder, most notably at the object and relation levels and on out-of-domain generalisation. Code for the data generation pipeline and ScenarioCLIP is available at https://github.com/scenario-clip/SCLARO-ScenarioCLIP

Narrating For You: Prompt-guided Audio-visual Narrating Face Generation Employing Multi-entangled Latent Space

We present a novel approach for generating realistic speaking and talking faces by synthesizing a person's voice and facial movements from a static image, a voice profile, and a target text. The model encodes the prompt/driving text, the driving image, and the voice profile of an individual and then combines them to pass them to the multi-entangled latent space to foster key-value pairs and queries for the audio and video modality generation pipeline. The multi-entangled latent space is responsible for establishing the spatiotemporal person-specific features between the modalities. Further, entangled features are passed to the respective decoder of each modality for output audio and video generation.
