A gluing construction of $Z$-extremal Kähler metrics and new examples of Bismut Hermitian-Einstein $3$-folds

We present a gluing construction for a class of 6th order geometric non-linear PDE's on a Kähler manifold or orbifold, arising in the study of Bismut Hermitian Einstein complex $3$-folds, the supersymmetric ${\rm AdS}_3 \times Y_7$ and ${\rm AdS}_2 \times Y_9$ solutions of type IIB and $D=11$ supergravity models in physics, and in Dervan's Z-critical Kähler metrics. As applications, we obtain a desingularization theorem for orbifolds with crepant singularities admitting a solution of the PDE, as well as a blowing-up of points theorem for smooth complex $3$-folds admitting such solutions. These results yield new examples of regular Bismut Hermitian Einstein structures on the smooth manifolds $3(S^2\times S^4)\sharp 4(S^3\times S^3)$, $5(S^2\times S^4)\sharp 6(S^3\times S^3)$ and $S^1\times 9(S^2\times S^3)$, as well as infinite topological types of smooth compact $7$-dimensional manifolds $Y_7$, providing new solutions to the supersymmetric ${\rm AdS}_3 \times Y_7$ type IIB and ${\rm AdS}_2 \times T^2 \times Y^7$ type $D=11$ supergravity models.

From Calabi's extremal metrics to scalar-flat Kähler cones

We prove that for any smooth polarized complex $n$-dimensional manifold $(X, L_X)$ which admits an extremal Kähler metric in $c_1(L_X)$, and for any integer $k$ large enough (in terms of a bound depending on $(X, L_X)$), the $(n+k+1)$-dimensional complex cone $\mathcal{Y}:= \overline{(L_X \otimes \mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^k}(1))^{\times}}$ with section $X \times \mathbb{P}^k$ admits a scalar-flat Kähler cone metric. Equivalently, the unweighted Sasaki join of a smooth compact quasi-regular extremal Sasaki manifold with a regular Sasaki sphere $\mathbb{S}^{2k+1}$ of sufficiently large dimension $(2k+1)$ admits a Sasaki metric of constant (positive) scalar curvature. This gives an affirmative answer to an asymptotic version of a question raised by Boyer--Huang--Legendre--Tønnesen-Friedman in arXiv:1906.04827.

Pluriclosed 3-folds with vanishing Bismut Ricci form: General theory in the quasi-regular case

We study compact complex $3$-dimensional non-Kähler Bismut Ricci flat pluriclosed Hermitian manifolds (BHE) via their dimensional reduction to a special Kähler geometry in complex dimension $2$, recently obtained by Barbaro, Streets and the first and third authors. We show that in the quasi-regular case, the reduced geometry satisfies a 6th order non-linear PDE which has infinite dimensional momentum map interpretation, similar to the much studied Kähler metrics of constant scalar curvature (cscK). We use this to associate to the reduced manifold or orbifold Mabuchi and Calabi functionals, as well as to obtain obstructions for the existence of solutions in terms of the authomorphism group, paralleling results by Futaki and Calabi-Lichnerowicz-Matsushima in the cscK case. This is used to characterize the Samelson locally homogeneous BHE geometries in complex dimension 3 as the only non-Kähler BHE $3$-folds with $2$-dimensional Bott-Chern $(1,1)$-cohomology group, for which the reduced space is a smooth Kähler surface. We also discuss explicit solutions of the PDE on orthotoric Kähler orbifold surfaces, extending examples found by Couzens-Gauntlett-Martelli-Sparks in the framework of supersymmetric ${\rm AdS}_3 \times Y_7$ type IIB supergravity. Our construction yields infinitely many non-Kähler BHE structures on $S^3\times S^3$ and $S^1\times S^2 \times S^3$, which are not locally isometric to a Samelson geometry. These appear to be the first such examples.

Weighted cscK metric (II): the continuity method

In this paper we investigate the existence of metrics with weighted constant scalar curvature (wcscK for short) on a compact Kähler manifold $X$: this notion include constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics, weighted solitons, Calabi's extremal Kähler metrics and extremal metric on semisimple principal fibrations. We prove that the coercivity of the weighted Mabuchi functional implies the existence of a wcscK metric, thereby achieving the equivalence. \\ We then give several applications in Kähler and toric geometry, such as a weighted version of the toric Yau-Tian-Donaldson correspondence, and the characterization of the existence of wcscK metric on total space of semisimple principal fibration $Y$ in term of existence of wcscK metric on its fiber $X$.

The CR Yamabe invariant and constant scalar curvature Sasaki metrics

We propose a new approach to the existence of constant transversal scalar curvature Sasaki structures drawing on ideas and tools from the CR Yamabe problem, establishing a link between the CR Yamabe invariant, the existence of Sasaki structures of constant transversal scalar curvature, and the K-stability of Sasaki manifolds. Assuming that the Sasaki-Reeb cone contains a regular vector field, we show that if the CR Yamabe invariant of a compact Sasaki manifold attains a specific value determined by the geometry of the Reeb cone, then the Sasaki manifold is K-semistable. Under the additional assumption of non-positive average scalar curvature, the CR Yamabe invariant attains this topological value if the manifold admits approximately constant scalar curvature Sasaki structures, and we also show a partial converse. As an application, we provide a new numerical criterion for the K-semistability of polarised compact complex manifolds.

From Kähler Ricci solitons to Calabi-Yau Kähler cones

We show that if $X$ is a smooth Fano manifold which caries a Kähler Ricci soliton, then the canonical cone of the product of $X$ with a complex projective space of sufficiently large dimension is a Calabi--Yau cone. This can be seen as an asymptotic version of a conjecture by Mabuchi and Nikagawa. This result is obtained by the openness of the set of weight functions $v$ over the momentum polytope of a given smooth Fano manifold, for which a $v$-soliton exists. We discuss other ramifications of this approach, including a Licherowicz type obstruction to the existence of a Kähler Ricci soliton and a Fujita type volume bound for the existence of a $v$-soliton.

Mabuchi Kähler solitons versus extremal Kähler metrics and beyond

Using the Yau-Tian-Donaldson type correspondence for $v$-solitons established by Han-Li, we show that a smooth complex $n$-dimensional Fano variety admits a Mabuchi soliton provided it admits an extremal Kähler metric whose scalar curvature is strictly less than $2(n+1)$. Combined with previous observations by Mabuchi and Nakamura in the other direction, this gives a characterization of the existence of Mabuchi solitons in terms of the existence of extremal Kähler metrics on Fano manifolds. An extension of this correspondence to $v$-solitons is also obtained.

Weighted cscK metric (I): a priori estimates

Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold. In this paper we study the existence of constant weighted scalar curvature Kähler (weighted cscK) metrics on $X$. More precisely, we establish a priori $C^{k}$-estimates ($k\geq 0$) for the Kähler potential associated with these metrics, thereby extending a result due to Chen and Cheng in the classical cscK setting.

The weighted Hermite--Einstein equation

We introduce a new weighted version of the Hermite--Einstein equation, along with notions of weighted slope (semi/poly)stability, and prove that a vector bundle admits a weighted Hermite--Einstein metric if and only if it is weighted slope polystable. The new equation encompasses several well-known examples of canonical Hermitian metrics on vector bundles, including the usual Hermite--Einstein metrics, Kähler--Ricci solitons, and transversally Hermite--Einstein metrics on certain Sasaki manifolds. We prove that the equation arises naturally as a moment map, that solutions to the equation are unique up to scaling, and demonstrate a weighted Kobayashi--Lübke inequality satisfied by vector bundles admitting a weighted Hermite--Einstein metric. As an application of our techniques, we extend a bound of Tian on the Ricci curvature to a bound on a modified Ricci curvature, related to the existence of Kähler--Ricci solitons. Along the way, we introduce a new weighted vortex equation, as well as a weighted analogue of Gieseker stability. A key technical point is the application of a new extension of Inoue's equivariant intersection numbers to arbitrary weight functions on the moment polytope of a Kähler manifold with Hamiltonian torus action.

The Einstein-Hilbert functional and the Donaldson-Futaki invariant

Given a Kaehler manifold polarised by a holomorphic ample line bundle, we consider the circle bundle associated to the polarisation with the induced transversal holomorphic structure. The space of contact structures compatible with this transversal structure is naturally identified with a bundle, of infinite rank, over the space of Kaehler metrics in the first Chern class of the polarisation. We show that the Einstein-Hilbert functional of the associated Tanaka-Webster connections is a functional on this bundle, whose critical points are constant scalar curvature Sasaki structures. In particular, when the group of automorphisms is discrete, these critical points correspond to constant scalar curvature Kaehler metrics in the first Chern class of the polarisation. We show that the Einstein--Hilbert functional satisfies some monotonicity properties along some one-parameter families of CR-contact structures that are naturally associated to test configurations, and that its limit on the central fibre of a test configuration is related to the Donaldson-Futaki invariant through an expansion in terms of an extra real parameter. As a by-product, we obtain an original proof that the existence of constant scalar curvature Kaehler metrics on a polarized manifold implies K-semistability. We also show that the limit of the Einstein-Hilbert functional on the central fibre coincides with the ratio of the equivariant index characters pole coefficients of the central fibre.

Weighted K-stability and coercivity with applications to extremal Kahler and Sasaki metrics

We show that a compact weighted extremal Kahler manifold (as defined by the third named author) has coercive weighted Mabuchi energy with respect to a maximal complex torus in the reduced group of complex automorphisms. This provides a vast extension and a unification of a number of results concerning Kahler metrics satisfying special curvature conditions, including constant scalar curvature Kahler metrics, extremal Kahler metrics, Kahler-Ricci solitons and their weighted extensions. Our result implies the strict positivity of the weighted Donaldson-Futaki invariant of any non-product equivariant smooth Kähler test configuration with reduced central fibre, a property also known as weighted K-polystability on such test configurations. For a class of fibre-bundles, we use our result in conjunction with the recent results of Chen-Cheng, He, and Han-Li in order to characterize the existence of extremal Kahler metrics and Calabi-Yau cones associated to the total space, in terms of the coercivity of the weighted Mabuchi energy of the fibre. In particular, this yields an existence result for Sasaki-Einstein metrics on Fano toric fibrations, extending the results of Futaki-Ono-Wang in the toric Fano case, and of Mabuchi-Nakagawa in the case of Fano projective line bundles.

Convexity of the weighted Mabuchi functional and the uniqueness of weighted extremal metrics

We prove the uniqueness, up to a pull-back by an element of a suitable subgroup of complex automorphisms, of the weighted extremal Kähler metrics on a compact Kähler manifold introduced in our previous work. This extends a result by Berman--Berndtsson and Chen--Paun--Zeng in the extremal Kähler case. Furthermore, we show that a weighted extremal Kähler metric is a global minimum of a suitable weighted version of the modified Mabuchi energy. This implies a suitable notion of weighted K-semistability of a Kähler manifold admitting a weighted extremal Kähler metric.

Kähler metrics with constant weighted scalar curvature and weighted K-stability

We introduce a notion of a Kähler metric with constant weighted scalar curvature on a compact Kähler manifold $X$, depending on a fixed real torus $\mathbb{T}$ in the reduced group of automorphisms of $X$, and two smooth (weight) functions $\mathrm{v}>0$ and $\mathrm{w}$, defined on the momentum image (with respect to a given Kähler class $α$ on $X$) of $X$ in the dual Lie algebra of $\mathbb{T}$. A number of natural problems in Kähler geometry, such as the existence of extremal Kähler metrics and conformally Kähler, Einstein--Maxwell metrics, or prescribing the scalar curvature on a compact toric manifold reduce to the search of Kähler metrics with constant weighted scalar curvature in a given Kähler class $α$, for special choices of the weight functions $\mathrm{v}$ and $\mathrm{w}$. We show that a number of known results obstructing the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler (cscK) metrics can be extended to the weighted setting. In particular, we introduce a functional $\mathcal M_{\mathrm{v}, \mathrm{w}}$ on the space of $\mathbb{T}$-invariant Kähler metrics in $α$, extending the Mabuchi energy in the cscK case, and show (following the arguments of Li and Sano--Tipler in the cscK and extremal cases) that if $α$ is Hodge, then constant weighted scalar curvature metrics in $α$ are minima of $\mathcal M_{\mathrm{v},\mathrm{w}}$. Motivated by the recent work of Dervan--Ross and Dyrefelt in the cscK and extremal cases, we define a $(\mathrm{v},\mathrm{w})$-weighted Futaki invariant of a $\mathbb{T}$-compatible smooth Kähler test configuration associated to $(X, α, \mathbb{T})$, and show that the boundedness from below of the $(\mathrm{v},\mathrm{w})$-weighted Mabuchi functional $\mathcal M_{\mathrm{v}, \mathrm{w}}$ implies a suitable notion of a $(\mathrm{v},\mathrm{w})$-weighted K-semistability.

Conformally Kähler, Einstein--Maxwell metrics and boundedness of the modified Mabuchi-functional

We prove that if a compact smooth polarized complex manifold admits in the corresponding Hodge Kähler class a conformally Kähler, Einstein--Maxwell metric, or more generally, a Kähler metric of constant $(ξ, a, p)$-scalar curvature, then this metric minimizes the $(ξ,a,p)$-Mabuchi functional. Our method of proof extends the approach introduced by Donaldson and developed by Li and Sano--Tipler, via finite dimensional approximations and generalized balanced metrics. As an application of our result and the recent construction of Koca--Tønnesen-Friedman, we describe the Kähler classes on a geometrically ruled complex surface of genus greater than 2, which admit conformally Kähler, Einstein-Maxwell metrics.

Automorphisms and deformations of conformally Kähler, Einstein-Maxwell metrics

We obtain a structure theorem for the group of holomorphic automorphisms of a conformally Kähler, Einstein-Maxwell metric, extending the classical results of Matsushima, Licherowicz and Calabi in the Kähler-Einstein, cscK, and extremal Kähler cases. Combined with previous results of LeBrun, Apostolov-Maschler and Futaki-Ono, this completes the classification of the conformally Kähler, Einstein--Maxwell metrics on $\mathbb{CP}^1 \times \mathbb{CP}^1$. We also use our result in order to introduce a (relative) Mabuchi energy in the more general context of $(K, q, a)$-extremal Kähler metrics in a given Kähler class, and show that the existence of $(K, q, a)$-extremal Kähler metrics is stable under small deformation of the Kähler class, the Killing vector field $K$ and the normalization constant $a$.
