Automated Burgers Vector Identification for Individual Dislocations in Bulk Crystals

Weak-beam imaging in dark-field X-ray microscopy (DFXM) can resolve individual dislocations in bulk crystals, but assigning Burgers vectors from the resulting contrast typically requires manual comparison with forward simulations. Here, we train a physics-informed convolutional neural network (CNN) on geometrical optics simulations of isolated dislocations in face-centred cubic (FCC) aluminium, incorporating crystallographic constraints into the learning pro- cess. The model identifies Burgers vectors from weak-beam integrated rocking-curve images. On synthetic test data, the model achieves an accuracy of approximately 93%. In an experimental cross-slip case, the constrained model as- signs 72.7% of the layer-wise predictions to the reference Burgers vector. These results show that simulation-trained, physics-informed CNNs represent a step toward automated dislocation identification in DFXM.

3D Mapping of Intragranular Residual Strain and Microstructure in Recrystallized Iron Using Dark-Field X-ray Microscopy

Grain growth is a key process in the thermomechanical treatment of metals. Recently, the presence of local residual stresses within fully recrystallized grains has attracted increasing interest in connection with shear-coupled grain boundary migration mechanisms. In this work, we provide the first direct experimental measurements of residual elastic strain variations in fully recrystallized commercial-purity iron, on the order of $10^{-4}$. Using dark-field X-ray microscopy (DFXM), we performed non-destructive three-dimensional measurements of strain and orientation variations within individual grains. Our results reveal heterogeneous strain distributions across all measured grains. In one case, we observed several isolated dislocations accommodating two second-phase particles, exhibiting a localized strain signature with no detectable long-range effect. The formation mechanisms of intragranular residual strains and their potential influence on grain boundary migration during subsequent grain growth are discussed. This work highlights the importance of accounting for such residual elastic strains in future grain growth models.

One dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate under the effect of the extended uncertainty principle

In this study, an analytical investigation was conducted to assess the effects of the extended uncertainty principle (EUP) on a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) described by the deformed one-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE). Analytical solutions were derived for null potential while we used variational and numerical methods for a harmonic oscillator potential. The effects of EUP on stability, probability density, position, and momentum uncertainties of BEC are analyzed. The EUP is found to be applicable for the free dark soliton solution and in the presence of a harmonic potential within specific ranges of the deformation parameter $α$, while it is not valid for the free bright soliton solution.
