Susceptibilities with multi-quark interactions in PNJL model

We have investigated the fluctuations and the higher order susceptibilities of quark number, isospin number, electric charge and strangeness at vanishing chemical potential for 2+1 flavor Polyakov loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The calculations are performed for the bound effective potential in the quark sector requiring up to eight quark interaction terms. These have been contrasted to the lattice results which currently have somewhat heavier quarks in the light flavor sector. The results show sufficient qualitative agreement. For comparison we also present the results obtained with the conventional effective potential containing upto six quark interaction terms.

Investigation of Phase Diagram and Bulk Thermodynamic Properties using PNJL Model with Eight-Quark Interactions

We present the bulk thermodynamic properties and phase diagram of strongly interacting matter in an extension of the 3-flavor NJL and PNJL models of QCD. Using a three momentum cut-off scheme, we have extended the multiquark interaction terms up to eight order so that the stability of the vacuum is ensured in these models. We explore the effects of various combinations of the two eight-quark couplings $g_1$ and $g_2$ and present a comparative study between the NJL and PNJL models as well as Lattice QCD data. The main effect of the eight-quark interaction term is to shift the critical end point in the $T-μ$ phase diagram to a lower value of $μ$ and higher value of $T$, thus bringing them closer to Lattice QCD results.

Deconfinement Phase Transition in Compact Stars : Maxwell vs. Gibbs Construction of the Mixed Phase

We study different realisations of the first order deconfinement phase transition inside a compact star by comparing the Gibbs and Maxwell construction for the mixed phase. The hadronic sector is described within the relativistic mean field model including hyperons. The quark sector is described by the MIT Bag model. We find that these two realisations lead to very different star properties, in particular, the composition of the stellar matter. We also find that for the Maxwell construction there is a sharp discontinuity in the baryon density and the electron chemical potential. We argue that a sharp jump in the elctron chemical potential should lead to the redistribution of electrons and formation of strong electric fields around the discontinuity surface.

Mesonic Excitations of QGP: Study with an Effective Model

We study the correlations between quark-antiquark pairs in different quantum number channels in a deconfined plasma by using an effective model of QCD. Using the three flavour PNJL model, the finite temperature spectral functions for different mesonic states are studied at zero and nonzero quark chemical potentials. It is found that in the $η$ channel resonance structures survive above the chiral transition temperature $\tc$, while the kaonic states seem to get washed off just above $\tc$. The sensitivity of the structures to the anomaly term are carefully investigated.

Effect of General Relativity and rotation on the energy deposition rate for $ν+ \barν \to e^+ + e^- $ inside a compact star

We have studied the $ν+ \barν \to e^+ + e^- $ energy deposition rate in a rotating compact star. This reaction is important for the study of gamma ray bursts. The General Relativistic (GR) effects on the energy deposition rate have been incorporated. We find that the efficiency of the process is larger for a rotating star. The total energy deposition rate increases by more than an order of magnitude due to rotation. The dependence of this energy deposition rate on the deformation parameter of the star has also been discussed.

The conversion of Neutron star to Strange star : A two step process

The conversion of neutron matter to strange matter in a neutron star have been studied as a two step process. In the first step, the nuclear matter gets converted to two flavour quark matter. The conversion of two flavour to three flavour strange matter takes place in the second step. The first process is analysed with the help of equations of state and hydrodynamical equations, whereas, in the second process, non-leptonic weak interaction plays the main role. Velocities and the time of travel through the star of these two conversion fronts have been analysed and compared.

Colour entangled orphan quarks and dark energy from cosmic QCD phase transition

The present day astrophysical observations indicate that the universe is composed of a large amount of dark energy (DE) responsible for an accelerated expansion of the universe, along with a sizeable amount of cold dark matter (CDM), responsible for structure formation. The explanations for the origin or the nature of both CDM and DE seem to require ideas beyond the standard model of elementary particle interactions. Here we show that CDM and DE both can arise from the standard principles of strong interaction physics and quantum entanglement.

QCD phase transition in rotaing neutron star, Neutrino beaming and Gamma-ray bursters

We have studied the emission of neutrinos from a rotating hybrid star. We find that the emission is predominantly confined to a very small angle, provided the core of the star is in a mixed phase of quarks and hadrons and the size of such a mixed phase is small. Annihilation of neutrinos to produce gamma rays has been discussed. The estimated duration of the burst is found to be within the observational range.

Rotating Quark Star in Chiral Colour Dielectric Model

The properties of rotating quark star is studied using the equation of state obtained from Chiral Colour Dielectric model. The results are compared with the MIT bag model results. The frequencies in the corotating innermost circular orbits for different central densities are evaluated and compared with the observational results.

Cosmological dark energy from the cosmic QCD phase transition and colour entanglement

Recent astrophysical observations indicate that the universe is composed of a large amount of dark energy (DE) responsible for an accelerated expansion of the universe, along with a sizeable amount of cold dark matter (CDM), responsible for structure formation. At present, the explanations for the origin or the nature of both CDM and DE seem to require ideas beyond the standard model of elementary particle interactions. Here, for the first time, we show that CDM and DE can arise entirely from the standard principles of strong interaction physics and quantum entanglement. Quantitative agreement with the present data obtains without the need for any adjustable parameters.

Strangeness, Cosmological Cold Dark Matter and Dark Energy

It is now believed that the universe is composed of a small amount of the normal luminous matter, a substantial amount of matter (Cold Dark Matter: CDM) which is non-luminous and a large amount of smooth energy (Dark Energy: DE). Both CDM and DE seem to require ideas beyond the standard model of particle interactions. In this work, we argue that CDM and DE can arise entirely from the standard principles of strong interaction physics out of the same mechanism.

Rotating Twin Stars and Signature of Quark-Hadron Phase Transition

The quark hadron phase transition in a rotating compact star has been studied. The NLZ-model has been used for the hadronic sector and the MIT Bag model has been used for the quark sector. It has been found that rotating twin star (third family) solutions are obtained upto $Ω\approx 4000 s^{-1}$. Stars which are rotating faster than this limit do not show any twin star solution. A backbending in moment of inertia is also observed in the supermassive rest mass sequences. The braking index is found to diverge for a star having pure quark core.

Massive Compact Halo Objects from the Relics of the Cosmic Quark-Hadron Transition

The existence of compact gravitational lenses, with masses around 0.5 (M_{\odot}), has been reported in the halo of the Milky Way. The nature of these dark lenses is as yet obscure, particularly because these objects have masses well above the threshold for nuclear fusion. In this work, we show that they find a natural explanation as being the evolutionary product of the metastable false vacuum domains (the so-called strange quark nuggets) formed in a first order cosmic quark-hadron transition.

Bose-Einstein condensation in dense nuclear matter and strong magnetic fields

Bose-Einstein condensation of antikaons in cold and dense beta-equilibrated matter under the influence of strong magnetic fields is studied within a relativistic mean field model. For magnetic fields $> 5 \times 10^{18}$G, the phase spaces of charged particles are modified resulting in compositional changes in the system. The threshold density of $K^-$ condensation is shifted to higher density compared with the field free case. In the presence of strong fields, the equation of state becomes stiffer than that of the zero field case.

The Cosmological Quark-Hadron Transition and Massive Compact Halo Objects

One of the abiding mysteries in the so-called standard cosmological model is the nature of the dark matter. It is universally accepted that there is an abundance of matter in the universe which is non-luminous, due to their very weak interaction, if at all, with the other forms of matter, excepting of course the gravitational attraction. Speculations as to the nature of dark matter are numerous, often bordering on exotics, and searches for such exotic matter is a very active field of astroparticle physics at the dawn of the new century. Nevertheless, in recent years, there has been experimental evidence for at least one form of dark matter - the massive compact halo objects detected through gravitational microlensing effects proposed by Paczynski some years ago. To date, no clear consensus as to what these objects, referred to in the literature as well as in the following by the acronym MACHO, are made of; for a brief discussion of some of the suggestions, see below. In this work, we show that they find a natural explanation as leftover relics from the putative first order cosmic quark - hadron phase transition that is predicted by the standard model of particle interactions to have occurred during the microsecond epoch of the early universe.
