Quantized pumping in disordered nonlinear Thouless pumps

We investigate the dynamics of nonlinear optical Thouless pumps in the presence of disorder, using optical waveguide arrays. It was previously known that the displacement of solitons in Thouless pumps is quantized and may exhibit integer and fractional transport over the course of the pump cycle. Here, we demonstrate that, in disordered nonlinear pumps, quantization may be maintained despite the presence of disorder, even though it would not be in the linear domain. Moreover, nonlinearity allows pumps to be executed more quickly (i.e., less adiabatically). This may serve as a design principle for integrated non-reciprocal devices based on temporal modulation.

Zeno crossovers in the entanglement speed of spin chains with noisy impurities

We use a noisy signal with finite correlation time to drive a spin (dissipative impurity) in the quantum XY spin chain and calculate the dynamics of entanglement entropy of a bipartition of spins, for a stochastic quantum trajectory. We compute the noise averaged entanglement entropy of a bipartition of spins and observe that its speed of spreading decreases at strong dissipation, as a result of the Zeno effect. We recover the Zeno crossover and show that noise averaged entanglement entropy can be used as a proxy for the heating and Zeno regimes. Upon increasing the correlation time of the noise, the location of the Zeno crossover shifts at stronger dissipation, extending the heating regime.

Analytical solutions of inhomogeneous transverse field Ising models

The inhomogeneous transverse field Ising models mainly impurity based and the joint chain are analysed analytically using Jordan-Wigner transformations. The effects of inhomogeneities on the phase transition have been discussed in detail. We constructed an ansatz to diagonalize the two models which are taken into consideration. The inhomogeneity is quantified by a coupling parameter, which can be tuned to control the occurrence of quantum phase transition in these models. We have shown a systematic setup using which we can generalise the solution to a system with an arbitrary number of impurity sites and junctions, which are separated by at least two lattice sites. We have analysed the quantum critical point by calculating the correlation functions, transverse magnetization and the gap between the ground state and the first excited state.
