Quickest Bayesian and non-Bayesian detection of false data injection attack in remote state estimation

In this paper, quickest detection of false data injection attack on remote state estimation is considered. A set of $N$ sensors make noisy linear observations of a discrete-time linear process with Gaussian noise, and report the observations to a remote estimator. The challenge is the presence of a few potentially malicious sensors which can start strategically manipulating their observations at a random time in order to skew the estimates. The quickest attack detection problem for a known {\em linear} attack scheme in the Bayesian setting with a Geometric prior on the attack initiation instant is posed as a constrained Markov decision process (MDP), in order to minimize the expected detection delay subject to a false alarm constraint, with the state involving the probability belief at the estimator that the system is under attack. State transition probabilities are derived in terms of system parameters, and the structure of the optimal policy is derived analytically. It turns out that the optimal policy amounts to checking whether the probability belief exceeds a threshold. Next, generalized CUSUM based attack detection algorithm is proposed for the non-Bayesian setting where the attacker chooses the attack initiation instant in a particularly adversarial manner. It turns out that computing the statistic for the generalised CUSUM test in this setting relies on the same techniques developed to compute the state transition probabilities of the MDP. Numerical results demonstrate significant performance gain under the proposed algorithms against competing algorithms.

An improved Bayesian TRIE based model for SMS text normalization

Normalization of SMS text, commonly known as texting language, is being pursued for more than a decade. A probabilistic approach based on the Trie data structure was proposed in literature which was found to be better performing than HMM based approaches proposed earlier in predicting the correct alternative for an out-of-lexicon word. However, success of the Trie based approach depends largely on how correctly the underlying probabilities of word occurrences are estimated. In this work we propose a structural modification to the existing Trie-based model along with a novel training algorithm and probability generation scheme. We prove two theorems on statistical properties of the proposed Trie and use them to claim that is an unbiased and consistent estimator of the occurrence probabilities of the words. We further fuse our model into the paradigm of noisy channel based error correction and provide a heuristic to go beyond a Damerau Levenshtein distance of one. We also run simulations to support our claims and show superiority of the proposed scheme over previous works.

A Stochastic Game Framework for Efficient Energy Management in Microgrid Networks

We consider the problem of energy management in microgrid networks. A microgrid is capable of generating a limited amount of energy from a renewable resource and is responsible for handling the demands of its dedicated customers. Owing to the variable nature of renewable generation and the demands of the customers, it becomes imperative that each microgrid optimally manages its energy. This involves intelligently scheduling the demands at the customer side, selling (when there is a surplus) and buying (when there is a deficit) the power from its neighboring microgrids depending on its current and future needs. Typically, the transaction of power among the microgrids happens at a pre-decided price by the central grid. In this work, we formulate the problems of demand and battery scheduling, energy trading and dynamic pricing (where we allow the microgrids to decide the price of the transaction depending on their current configuration of demand and renewable energy) in the framework of stochastic games. Subsequently, we propose a novel approach that makes use of independent learners Deep Q-learning algorithm to solve this problem. Through extensive empirical evaluation, we show that our proposed framework is more beneficial to the majority of the microgrids and we provide a detailed analysis of the results.
