Analytic results on the massive three-loop form factors: quarkonic contributions

The quarkonic contributions to the three-loop heavy-quark form factors for vector, axial-vector, scalar and pseudoscalar currents are described by closed form difference equations for the expansion coefficients in the limit of small virtualities $q^2/m^2$. A part of the contributions can be solved analytically and expressed in terms of harmonic and cyclotomic harmonic polylogarithms and square-root valued iterated integrals. Other contributions obey equations which are not first-order factorizable. For them still infinite series expansions around the singularities of the form factors can be obtained by matching the expansions at intermediate points and using differential equations which are obeyed directly by the form factors and are derived by guessing algorithms. One may determine all expansion coefficients for $q^2 /m^2 \to \infty$ analytically in terms of multiple zeta values. By expanding around the threshold and pseudo-threshold, the corresponding constants are multiple zeta values supplemented by a finite amount of new constants, which can be computed at high precision. For a part of these coefficients, the infinite series in front of these constants may be even resummed into harmonic polylogarithms. In this way, one obtains a deeper analytic description of the massive form factors, beyond their pure numerical evaluation. The calculations of these analytic results are based on sophisticated computer algebra techniques. We also compare our results with numerical results in the literature.

Heavy flavour corrections to polarised and unpolarised deep-inelastic scattering at 3-loop order

We report on progress in the calculation of 3-loop corrections to the deep-inelastic structure functions from massive quarks in the asymptotic region of large momentum transfer $Q^2$. Recently completed results allow us to obtain the $O(a_s^3)$ contributions to several heavy flavour Wilson coefficients which enter both polarised and unpolarised structure functions for lepton-nucleon scattering. In particular, we obtain the non-singlet contributions to the unpolarised structure functions $F_2(x,Q^2)$ and $x F_3(x,Q^2)$ and the polarised structure function $g_1(x,Q^2)$. From these results we also obtain the heavy flavour contributions to the Gross-Llewellyn-Smith and the Bjorken sum rules.

The Complete $O(α_s^2)$ Non-Singlet Heavy Flavor Corrections to the Structure Functions $g_{1,2}^{ep}(x,Q^2)$, $F_{1,2,L}^{ep}(x,Q^2)$, $F_{1,2,3}^{ν(\barν)}(x,Q^2)$ and the Associated Sum Rules

We calculate analytically the flavor non-singlet $O(α_s^2)$ massive Wilson coefficients for the inclusive neutral current non-singlet structure functions $F_{1,2,L}^{ep}(x,Q^2)$ and $g_{1,2}^{ep}(x,Q^2)$ and charged current non-singlet structure functions $F_{1,2,3}^{ν(\barν)p}(x,Q^2)$, at general virtualities $Q^2$ in the deep-inelastic region. Numerical results are presented. We illustrate the transition from low to large virtualities for these observables, which may be contrasted to basic assumptions made in the so-called variable flavor number scheme. We also derive the corresponding results for the Adler sum rule, the unpolarized and polarized Bjorken sum rules and the Gross-Llewellyn Smith sum rule. There are no logarithmic corrections at large scales $Q^2$ and the effects of the power corrections due to the heavy quark mass are of the size of the known $O(α_s^4)$ corrections in the case of the sum rules. The complete charm and bottom corrections are compared to the approach using asymptotic representations in the region $Q^2 \gg m_{c,b}^2$. We also study the target mass corrections to the above sum rules.

Recent Symbolic Summation Methods to Solve Coupled Systems of Differential and Difference Equations

We outline a new algorithm to solve coupled systems of differential equations in one continuous variable $x$ (resp. coupled difference equations in one discrete variable $N$) depending on a small parameter $ε$: given such a system and given sufficiently many initial values, we can determine the first coefficients of the Laurent-series solutions in $ε$ if they are expressible in terms of indefinite nested sums and products. This systematic approach is based on symbolic summation algorithms in the context of difference rings/fields and uncoupling algorithms. The proposed method gives rise to new interesting applications in connection with integration by parts (IBP) methods. As an illustrative example, we will demonstrate how one can calculate the $ε$-expansion of a ladder graph with 6 massive fermion lines.

Two-loop QED Operator Matrix Elements with Massive External Fermion Lines

The two-loop massive operator matrix elements for the fermionic local twist--2 operators with external massive fermion lines in Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) are calculated up to the constant terms in the dimensional parameter $ε= D - 4$. We investigate the hypothesis of Ref. \cite{BBN} that the 2--loop QED initial state corrections to $e^+e^-$ annihilation into a virtual neutral gauge boson, except power corrections of $O((m_f^2/s)^k), k \geq 1$, can be represented in terms of these matrix elements and the massless 2-loop Wilson coefficients of the Drell-Yan process.

Two-Loop Helicity Amplitudes for Quark-Quark Scattering in QCD and Gluino-Gluino Scattering in Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory

We present the two-loop QCD helicity amplitudes for quark-quark and quark-antiquark scattering. These amplitudes are relevant for next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to (polarized) jet production at hadron colliders. We give the results in the `t Hooft-Veltman and four-dimensional helicity (FDH) variants of dimensional regularization and present the scheme dependence of the results. We verify that the finite remainder, after subtracting the divergences using Catani's formula, are in agreement with previous results. We also provide the amplitudes for gluino-gluino scattering in pure N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We describe ambiguities in continuing the Dirac algebra to D dimensions, including ones which violate fermion helicity conservation. The finite remainders after subtracting the divergences using Catani's formula, which enter into physical quantities, are free of these ambiguities. We show that in the FDH scheme, for gluino-gluino scattering, the finite remainders satisfy the expected supersymmetry Ward identities.

Two-Loop Helicity Amplitudes for Gluon-Gluon Scattering in QCD and Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory

We present the two-loop helicity amplitudes for the scattering of two gluons into two gluons in QCD, which are relevant for next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to jet production at hadron colliders. We give the results in the `t Hooft-Veltman and four-dimensional helicity variants of dimensional regularization. Summing our expressions over helicities and colors, and converting to conventional dimensional regularization, gives results in complete agreement with those of Glover, Oleari and Tejeda-Yeomans. We also present the amplitudes for 2 to 2 scattering in pure N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory.

Partial algebraization and a q-deformed harmonic oscillator

From the algebraic treatment of the quasi-solvable systems, and a q-deformation of the associated $su(2)$ algebra, we obtain exact solutions for the q-deformed Schrodinger equation with a 3-dimensional q-deformed harmonic oscillator potential.
