Some results on pure ideals and trace ideals of projective modules

Let $R$ be a commutative ring with the unit element. It is shown that an ideal $I$ in $R$ is pure if and only if Ann$(f)+I=R$ for all $f\in I$. If $J$ is the trace of a projective $R$-module $M$, we prove that $J$ is generated by the ``coordinates" of $M$ and $JM = M$. These lead to a few new results and alternative proofs for some known results.

Stone type representations and dualities by power set ring

In this paper, it is shown that the Boolean ring of a commutative ring is isomorphic to the ring of clopens of its prime spectrum. In particular, Stone's Representation Theorem is generalized. The prime spectrum of the Boolean ring of a given ring $R$ is identified with the Pierce spectrum of $R$. The discreteness of prime spectra is characterized. It is also proved that the space of connected components of a compact space $X$ is isomorphic to the prime spectrum of the ring of clopens of $X$. As another major result, it is shown that a morphism of rings between complete Boolean rings preserves suprema if and only if the induced map between the corresponding prime spectra is an open map.

Ring-theoretic approaches to point-set topology

In this paper, it is shown that a topological space $X$ is compact iff every maximal ideal of the power set ring $\mathcal{P}(X)$ converges to exactly one point of $X$. Then as an application, simple and ring-theoretic proofs are provided for the Tychonoff theorem and Alexander subbase theorem. As another result in this spirit, a ring-theoretic proof is given to the fact that a topological space is a profinite space iff it is compact and totally disconnected.

Characterizations of Gelfand rings specially clean rings and their dual rings

In this paper, new criteria for zero dimensional rings, Gelfand rings, clean rings and mp-rings are given. A new class of rings is introduced and studied, we call them purified rings. Specially, reduced purified rings are characterized. New characterizations for pure ideals of reduced Gelfand rings and mp-rings are provided. It is also proved that if the topology of a scheme is Hausdorff, then the affine opens of that scheme is stable under taking finite unions. In particular, every compact scheme is an affine scheme.

On purely-prime ideals with applications

In this paper, new algebraic and topological results on purely-prime ideals of a commutative ring (pure spectrum) are obtained. Especially, Grothendieck type theorem is obtained which states that there is a canonical correspondence between the idempotents of a ring and the clopens of its pure spectrum. It is also proved that a given ring is a Gelfand ring iff its maximal spectrum equipped with the induced Zariski topology is homeomorphic to its pure spectrum. Then as an application, it is deduced that a ring is zero dimensional iff its prime spectrum and pure spectrum are isomorphic. Dually, it is shown that a given ring is a reduced mp-ring iff its minimal spectrum equipped with the induced flat topology and its pure spectrum are the same. Finally, the new notion of semi-Noetherian ring is introduced and Cohen type theorem is proved.

Structural results on harmonic rings and lessened rings

In this paper, a combination of algebraic and topological methods are applied to obtain new and structural results on harmonic rings. Especially, it is shown that if a Gelfand ring $A$ modulo its Jacobson radical is a zero dimensional ring, then $A$ is a clean ring. It is also proved that, for a given Gelfand ring $A$, then the retraction map Spec$(A)\rightarrow{\rm Max}(A)$ is flat continuous if and only if $A$ modulo its Jacobson radical is a zero dimensional ring. Dually, it is proved that for a given mp-ring $A$, then the retraction map Spec$(A)\rightarrow{\rm Min}(A)$ is Zariski continuous if and only if ${\rm Min}(A)$ is Zariski compact. New criteria for zero dimensional rings, mp-rings and Gelfand rings are given. The new notion of lessened ring is introduced and studied which generalizes "reduced ring" notion. Specially, a technical result is obtained which states that the product of a family of rings is a lessened ring if and only if each factor is a lessened ring. As another result in this spirit, the structure of locally lessened mp-rings is also characterized. Finally, it is characterized that a given ring when is a finite product of fields, integral domains, local rings, and lessened quasi-prime rings.

Avoidance and Absorbance

We study the two dual notions of prime avoidance and prime absorbance. We generalize the classical prime avoidance lemma to radical ideals. A number of new criteria are provided for an abstract ring to be C.P. (every set of primes satisfies avoidance) or P.Z. (every set of primes satisfies absorbance). Special consideration is given to the interaction with chain conditions and Noetherian-like properties. It is shown that a ring is both C.P. and P.Z. iff it has finite spectrum.

Grassmannians over a finite field

In this paper, we characterize the Grassmannian Gr$(d,n)$ in terms of the row echelon forms of rank $d$. Using this characterization, then in the case of finite field we give a polynomial-type formula for the cardinality of the Grassmannian.

The upper topology and its relation with the projective modules

In this paper, first we obtain some new and interesting results on projective modules and on the upper topology of an ordinal number. Then it is shown that the rank map of a locally of finite type projective module is continuous with respect to the upper topology (by contract, it is well known this map is not necessarily continuous with respect to the discrete topology). It is also proved that a finitely generated flat module is projective if and only if its rank map is continuous with respect to the upper topology.

On the closed subschemes of a scheme

In this paper, we obtain some new results on closed subschemes. Specially, we define natural addition and multiplication on the closed subschemes of a scheme. It is shown that "the multiplication" precisely coincides with the well known notion of "the scheme-theoretic intersection". Dually, "the addition" coincides with "the scheme-theoretic union". It is also proved that these structures naturally provide contravariant functors from the category of schemes to the category of commutative monoids.

New methods toward the patch and flat topologies with applications

In this paper, we use elementary and simple ideas which are based on the significant applications of the power set ring to rebuild and study the patch topology on the prime spectrum from a completely different and new point of view. Specially, the proof of a major result in the literature on the comparison of topologies greatly simplified and shortened. Then we develop more natural and simple methods to obtain the flat topology and its properties. In particular, it is shown that the minimal spectrum of a commutative ring is quasi-compact with respect to the flat topology. Then as an application of this result, all of the related results of Kaplansky, Anderson, Gilmer-Heinzer, Bahmanpour-Khojali-Naghipour and Naghipour on the finiteness of the minimal primes are deduced as special cases of this result. Dually, a similar result is also obtained for maximal ideals.

On the projectivity of finitely generated flat modules

In this paper, the projectivity of a finitely generated flat module of a commutative ring is studied through its exterior powers and invariant factors and then various new results are obtained. Specially, the related results of Endo, Vasconcelos, Wiegand, Cox-Rush and Puninski-Rothmaler on the projectivity of finitely generated flat modules are generalized.

Notes on finitely generated flat modules

In this article, the projectivity of finitely generated flat modules of a commutative ring are studied from a topological point of view. Then various interesting results are obtained. For instance, it is shown that if a ring has either a finitely many minimal primes or a finitely many maximal ideals then every finitely generated flat module over it is projective. It is also shown that if a particular subset of the prime spectrum of a ring satisfies some certain ascending or descending chain conditions then every finitely generated flat module over this ring is projective. These results generalize some major results in the literature on the projectivity of finitely generated flat modules.

Quasi-prime ideals

In this paper, the new concept of quasi-prime ideal is introduced which at the same time generalizes the `prime ideal' and `primary ideal' notions. Then a natural topology on the set of quasi-prime ideals of a ring is introduced which generalizes the Zariski topology. The basic properties of the quasi-prime spectrum are studied and several interesting results are obtained. Specially, it is proved that if the Grothendieck t-functor is applied on the quasi-prime spectrum then the prime spectrum is deduced. It is also shown that there are the cases that the prime spectrum and quasi-prime spectrum do not behave similarly.

A fresh look into monoid rings and formal power series rings

In this article, the ring of polynomials is studied in a systematic way through the theory of monoid rings. As a consequence, this study provides natural and canonical approaches in order to find easy and rigorous proofs and methods for many facts on polynomials and formal power series; some of them as sample are treated in this note. Besides the universal properties of the monoid rings and polynomial rings, a universal property for the formal power series rings is also established.

Abstract sheaf theory

In this article, the theory of sheaves is studied from a categorical point of view. This perspective vastly generalizes the usual theory of sheaves of sets to a more abstract setting which allows us to investigate the theory of sheaves with values in an arbitrary category.
