On $\text{AdS}_2\times \text{S}^7$, its $\mathbb{Z}_k$ orbifold and their dual quantum mechanics

We consider a previously constructed class of massive Type IIA AdS$_2\times$S$^7\times I$ solutions with OSp$(8|2)$ symmetry, as well as OSp$(6|2)$-symmetric ones, by replacing the S$^7$ with the orbifold S$^7/\mathbb{Z}_k$. In both cases we construct global solutions for which the interval $I$ is bounded between physical singularities, by allowing D8-branes transverse to $I$. We also generate a new class of Type IIB AdS$_2\times \mathbb{CP}^3\times\text{S}^1\times I$ solutions by T-duality and establish a chain of dualities that maps the massless limit of these classes to AdS$_4/\mathbb{Z}_{k'}\times\text{S}^7/\mathbb{Z}_k$, thus identifying the brane configurations yielding these solutions. We propose that the ${\cal N}=8$ solutions are dual to a theory living on a D0-F1-D8 brane intersection which has a description in terms of disconnected quivers and similarly for the ${\cal N}=6$ solutions.

A massive class of $\mathcal{N} = 2$ AdS$_4$ IIA solutions

We initiate a classification of $\mathcal{N} =2$ supersymmetric AdS$_4$ solutions of (massive) type IIA supergravity. The internal space is locally equipped with either an SU(2) or an identity structure. We focus on the SU(2) structure and determine the conditions it satisfies, dictated by supersymmetry. Imposing as an Ansatz that the internal space is complex, we reduce the problem of finding solutions to a Riccati ODE, which we solve analytically. We obtain in this fashion a large number of new families of solutions, both regular as well as with localized O8-planes and conical Calabi--Yau singularities. We also recover many solutions already discussed in the literature.

G-structures for black hole near-horizon geometries

We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for warped AdS$_2$ solutions of Type II supergravity to preserve ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetry, in terms of bispinors. Such solutions generically support an SU$(3)$-structure on their internal manifold M$_8$, which can experience an enhancement to a G$_2$-structure. We perform an SU$(3)$-structure torsion classes analysis and express the fluxes and other physical fields in terms of these, in general. We use our results to derive two new classes of AdS$_2$ solutions. In (massive) Type IIA supergravity we derive an ${\mathcal N}=1$ supersymmetric class for which M$_8$ decomposes as a weak G$_2$-manifold foliated over an interval and which is locally defined in terms of a degree three polynomial. In Type IIB supergravity we find a class of AdS$_2\times\text{S}^2\times\text{CY}_2\timesΣ_2$ solutions preserving small ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetry, governed by a harmonic function on $Σ_2$ and partial differential equations reminiscent of D3-D7-brane configurations.

On Type IIA AdS$_3$ solutions and massive GK geometries

We give the necessary and sufficient conditions for warped AdS$_3$ (and Mink$_3$) solutions of Type II supergravities to preserve ${\cal N}=(2,0)$ supersymmetry, in terms of geometric conditions on their internal space M$_7$. Such solutions possess a canonical ten-dimensional Killing vector that can be either time-like or null. In this work we classify the null case in massive Type IIA supergravity which necessitates that M$_7$ decomposes as a circle fibration over a six-dimensional base with orthogonal SU(2)-structure containing a complex four-manifold. We narrow our focus to solutions for which M$_7$ becomes $\mathbb{T}^2$ fibred over a foliation of a Kähler manifold over an interval. We find a class of solutions which are the massive Type IIA version of GK geometries and present an extremal problem which computes the central charge of the solution using just topology. Finally, we present geometric conditions for AdS$_3$ solutions to preserve arbitrary extended chiral supersymmetry.

Superstrings on Penrose limits of AdS$_7$ solutions

We consider the Penrose limit of AdS$_7$ solutions of massive Type IIA supergravity. The resulting pp-wave geometry is supported by RR and NSNS fields. We quantize the Green--Schwarz superstring on the obtained pp-wave background, in the light-cone gauge.

A plethora of Type IIA embeddings for $d=5$ minimal supergravity

We construct multiple embeddings of all solutions of $d=5$ minimal (un)gauged supergravity into massive Type IIA supergravity. The internal spaces and warpings of such embeddings are the same as those of the $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric (Mink$_5$) AdS$_5$ vacua, with the slight modification that the U(1) R-symmetry direction becomes fibered over the external space by the $d=5$ gauge field. In addition the fluxes are appropriately modified. There are many distinct types of the aforementioned internal spaces and as such many different embeddings of the $d=5$ supergravity. As examples of our setup we provide new solutions dual to six-dimensional, $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$ SCFTs compactified on the product of a constant curvature Riemann surface and a spindle. We also provide a multitude of massive Type IIA embeddings for rotating, asymptotically AdS$_5$ black hole solutions.

${\cal N}=(2,2)$ AdS$_3$ from D3-branes wrapped on Riemann surfaces

We construct $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetric AdS$_3$ solutions of type IIB supergravity, dual to twisted compactifications of 4d $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang--Mills on Riemann surfaces. We consider both theories with a regular topological twist, and a twist involving the isometry group of the Riemann surface. These solutions are interpreted as the near-horizon of black strings asymptoting to AdS$_5\times \text{S}^5$. As evidence for the proposed duality we compute the central charge of the gravity solutions and show that it agrees with the field theory result.

On supersymmetric AdS$_3$ solutions of Type II

We classify supersymmetric warped AdS$_3 \times_w M_7$ backgrounds of Type IIA and Type IIB supergravity with non-constant dilaton, generic RR fluxes and magnetic NSNS flux, in terms of a dynamic $SU(3)$-structure on $M_7$. We illustrate our results by recovering several solutions with various amounts of supersymmetry. The dynamic $SU(3)$-structure includes a $G_2$-structure as a limiting case, and we show that in Type IIB this is integrable.

On AdS$_3$ solutions of Type IIB

We study $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric AdS$_3 \times M_7$ backgrounds of Type IIB supergravity, with non-vanishing axio-dilaton, three-form and five-form fluxes, and a "strict" $SU(3)$-structure on $M_7$. We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for supersymmetry as a set of constraints on the torsion classes of the $SU(3)$-structure. Given an Ansatz for the three-form fluxes, the problem of also solving the equations of motion involves a "master equation", which generalizes ones that have previously appeared in the literature.

AdS$_3$ solutions with exceptional supersymmetry

Among the possible superalgebras that contain the AdS$_3$ isometries, two interesting possibilities are the exceptional $F(4)$ and $G(3)$. Their R-symmetry is respectively SO(7) and $G_2$, and the amount of supersymmetry ${\cal N}=8$ and ${\cal N}=7$. We find that there exist two (locally) unique solutions in type IIA supergravity that realize these superalgebras, and we provide their analytic expressions. In both cases, the internal space is obtained by a round six-sphere fibred over an interval, with an O8-plane at one end. The R-symmetry is the symmetry group of the sphere; in the $G(3)$ case, it is broken to $G_2$ by fluxes. We also find several numerical ${\cal N}=1$ solutions with $G_2$ flavor symmetry, with various localized sources, including O2-planes and O8-planes.

6D attractors and black hole microstates

We find a family of AdS$_2\times \mathcal{M}_4$ supersymmetric solutions of the six-dimensional $\mathrm{F}(4)$ gauged supergravity coupled to one vector multiplet that arises as a low energy description of massive type IIA supergravity on (warped) AdS$_6\times S^4$. $\mathcal{M}_4$ is either a Kähler-Einstein manifold or a product of two Riemann surfaces with a constant curvature metric. These solutions correspond to the near-horizon region of a family of static magnetically charged black holes. In the case where $\mathcal{M}_4$ is a product of Riemann surfaces, we successfully compare their entropy to a microscopic counting based on the recently computed topologically twisted index of the five-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ $\mathrm{USp}(2 N)$ theory with $N_f$ fundamental flavors and an antisymmetric matter field. Furthermore, our results suggest that the near-horizon regions exhibit an attractor mechanism for the scalars in the matter coupled $\mathrm{F}(4)$ gauged supergravity, and we give a proposal for it.

Holographic duals of five-dimensional SCFTs on a Riemann surface

We study the twisted compactifications of five-dimensional Seiberg SCFTs, with $SU_\mathcal{M}(2)\times E_{N_f+1}$ flavor symmetry, on a generic Riemann surface that preserves four supercharges. The five-dimensional SCFTs are obtained from the decoupling limit of $N$ D4-branes probing a geometry of $N_f<8$ D8-branes and an O8-plane. In addition to the R-symmetry, we can also twist the flavor symmetry by turning on background flux on the Riemann surface. In particular, in the string theory construction of the five-dimensional SCFTs, the background flux for the $SU_\mathcal{M}(2)$ has a geometric origin, similar to the topological twist of the R-symmetry. We argue that the resulting low-energy three-dimensional theories describe the dynamics on the world-volume of the $N$ D4-branes wrapped on the Riemann surface in the O8/D8 background. The Riemann surface can be described as a curve in a Calabi-Yau three-fold that is a sum of two line bundles over it. This allows for an explicit construction of $AdS_4$ solutions in massive IIA supergravity dual to the world-volume theories, thereby providing strong evidence that the three-dimensional SCFTs exist in the low-energy limit of the compactification of the five-dimensional SCFTs. We compute observables such as the free energy and the scaling dimensions of operators dual to D2-brane probes; these have non-trivial dependence on the twist parameter for the $U(1)$ in $SU_\mathcal{M}(2)$. The free energy exhibits the $N^{5/2}$ scaling that is emblematic of five-dimensional SCFTs.

$\textrm{AdS}_{2}\times S^7$ solutions from D0 $-$ F1 $-$ D8 intersections

We study an exhaustive analytic class of massive type IIA backgrounds preserving sixteen real supercharges and enjoying $\textrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})\times\textrm{SO}(8)$ bosonic symmetry. The corresponding geometry is described by $\textrm{AdS}_{2}\times S^{7}$ warped over a line, which turns out to emerge from taking the near-horizon limit of D0 $-$ F1 $-$ D8 intersections. By studying the singularity structure of these solutions we find the possible presence of localized O8/D8 sources, as well as of fundamental strings smeared over the $S^{7}$. Finally we discuss the relation between the aforementioned solutions and the known $\textrm{AdS}_{7}\times S^{2}$ class through double analytic continuation.

Perturbing AdS$_6 \times_w S^4$: linearised equations and spin-2 spectrum

We initiate the analysis of the Kaluza--Klein mass spectrum of massive IIA supergravity on the warped AdS$_6 \times_w S^4$ background, by deriving the linearised equations of motion of bosonic and fermionic fluctuations, and determining the mass spectrum of those of spin-2. The spin-2 modes are given in terms of hypergeometric functions and a careful analysis of their boundary conditions uncovers the existence of two branches of mass spectra, bounded from below. The modes that saturate the bounds belong to short multiplets which we identify in the representation theory of the $\mathfrak{f}(4)$ symmetry superalgebra of the AdS$_6 \times_w S^4$ solution.

Holographic microstate counting for AdS$_4$ black holes in massive IIA supergravity

We derive the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for a class of BPS black holes in the massive type IIA supergravity background AdS$_4 \times S^6$ from a microscopic counting of supersymmetric ground states in a holographically dual field theory. The counting is performed by evaluating the topologically twisted index of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ Chern-Simons-matter gauge theories in the large $N$ limit. The $\mathcal{I}$-extremization principle is shown to match the attractor mechanism for the near-horizon geometries constructed in the four-dimensional dyonic $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauged supergravity, that arises as a consistent truncation of massive type IIA supergravity on $S^6$. In particular, our results prove that the imaginary part of the three-dimensional partition functions plays a crucial rôle in holography.

N = 2 supersymmetric AdS4 solutions of type IIB supergravity

We analyze general N = 2 supersymmetric AdS4 solutions of type IIB supergravity. Utilizing a set of pure spinor equations directly adapted to N = 2, the necessary and sufficient conditions for supersymmetry are reduced to a concise system of partial differential equations for two functions which determine the solutions. We show that using this system analytic solutions can be generated, thus potentially expanding the rather limited set of known AdS4 solutions in type IIB supergravity.

AdS5 compactifications with punctures in massive IIA supergravity

We find AdS5 solutions holographically dual to compactifications of six-dimensional N=(1,0) supersymmetric field theories on Riemann surfaces with punctures. We simplify a previous analysis of supersymmetric AdS5 IIA solutions, and with a suitable Ansatz we find explicit solutions organized in three classes, where an O8--D8 stack, D6- and D4-branes are simultaneously present, localized and partially localized. The D4-branes are smeared over the Riemann surface and this is interpreted as the presence of a uniform distribution of punctures. For the first class we identify the corresponding six-dimensional theory as an E-string theory coupled to a quiver gauge theory. The second class of solutions lacks D6-branes and its central charge scales as $n^{5/2}$, suggesting a five-dimensional origin for the dual field theory. The last class has elements of the previous two.
