On the nonexistence of NLS breathers

In this work, a rigorous proof of the nonexistence of breather solutions for NLS equations is presented. By using suitable virial functionals, we are able to characterize the nonexistence of breather solutions, different from standing waves, by only using their inner energy and the power of the corresponding nonlinearity of the equation. We extend this result for several NLS models with different power nonlinearities and even the derivative and logarithmic NLS equations.

Orbital stability of the black soliton for the quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation

In this work, a rigorous proof of the orbital stability of the black soliton solution of the quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation in one spatial dimension is obtained. We first build and show explicitly black and dark soliton solutions and we prove that the corresponding Ginzburg-Landau energy is coercive around them by using some orthogonality conditions related to perturbations of the black and dark solitons. The existence of suitable perturbations around black and dark solitons satisfying the required orthogonality conditions is deduced from an Implicit Function Theorem. In fact, these perturbations involve dark solitons with sufficiently small speeds and some proportionality factors ari\-sing from the explicit expression of their spatial derivative. We are also able to control the evolution of the modulation parameters along the quintic Gross-Pitaevskii flow by estimating their growth in time. As a direct consequence, we also prove the orbital stability of the dark soliton in a small speed interval.

Stability of mKdV breathers on the half-line

In this paper we study the stability problem for mKdV breathers on the left half-line. We are able to show that leftwards moving breathers, initially located far away from the origin, are strongly stable for the problem posed on the left half-line, when assuming homogeneous boundary conditions. The proof involves a Lyapunov functional which is almost conserved by the mKdV flow once we control some boundary terms which naturally arise.

Breather Solutions to the Cubic Whitham Equation

We are concerned with numerical approximations of breather solutions for the cubic Whitham equation which arises as a water-wave model for interfacial waves. The model combines strong nonlinearity with the non-local character of the water-wave problem. The equation is non-integrable as suggested by the inelastic interaction of solitary waves. As a non local model, it generalizes, in the low frequency limit, the well known modified KdV (mKdV) equation which is a completely-integrable model. The mKdV equation has breather solutions, i.e. periodic in time and localized in space biparametric solutions. It was recently shown that these breather solutions appear naturally as ground states of invariant integrals, suggesting that such structures may also exist in non-integrable models, at least in an approximate sense. In this work, we present numerical evidence that in the non-integrable case of the cubic Whitham equation, breather solutions may also exist.

Uniform Adiabatic Limit of Benney type Systems

In this paper we show that solutions of the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation are asymptotic limit of solutions to the Benney system. Due to the special characteristic of the one-dimensional transport equation same result is obtained for solutions of the one-dimensional Zakharov and 1d-Zakharov-Rubenchik systems. Convergence is reached in the topology $L^2(\mathbb{R})\times L^2(\mathbb{R})$ and with an approximation in the energy space $H^1(\mathbb{R})\times L^2(\mathbb{R})$. In the case of the Zakharov system this is achieved without the condition $\partial_t n(x,0) \in \dot H^{-1}(\mathbb{R})$ for the wave component, improving previous results.

The initial-boundary value problem for Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries system on the half-line

We prove local well-posedness for the initial-boundary value problem (IBVP) associated to the Schrödinger-Korteweg de Vries system on right and left half-lines. The results are obtained in the low regularity setting by using two analytic families of boundary forcing operators, being one of these family developed by Holmer to study the IBVP associated to the Korteweg-de Vries equation (Communications in Partial Differential Equations, 31 (2006)) and the other family one was recently introduced by Cavalcante (Differential and Integral Equations (2017)) in the context of nonlinear Schrödinger with quadratic nonlinearities.

On the Unboundedness of Higher Regularity Sobolev Norms of Solutions for the Critical Schrödinger-Debye System with Vanishing Relaxation Delay

We consider the Schrödinger-Debye system in $\mathbb{R}^n$, for $n=3,4$. Developing on previously known local well-posedness results, we start by establishing global well-posedness in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^3)\times L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)$ for a broad class of initial data. We then concentrate on the initial value problem in $n=4$, which is the energy-critical dimension for the corresponding cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We start by proving local well-posedness in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^4)\times H^1(\mathbb{R}^4)$. Then, for the focusing case of the system, we derive a virial type identity and use it to prove that for radially symmetric smooth initial data with negative energy, there is a positive time $T_0$, depending only on the data, for which, either the $H^1(\mathbb{R}^4)\times H^1(\mathbb{R}^4)$ solutions blow-up in $[0,T_0]$, or the higher regularity Sobolev norms are unbounded on the intervals $[0, T]$, for $T>T_0$, as the delay parameter vanishes. We finish by presenting a global well-posedness result for regular initial data which is small in the $H^1(\mathbb{R}^4)\times H^1(\mathbb{R}^4)$ norm.
