Partially massless theory in three dimensions and self-dual massive gravity

Partially massless theory in three dimensions is revisited and its relationship with the self-dual massive gravity is considered. The only mode of the partially massless theory is shown explicitly through an action for a scalar field on (A)dS background. This fact can be generalized to higher dimensions. This degree of freedom is altered when a triadic Chern-Simons is introduced, giving rise to the self-dual massive gravity on (A)dS background. We present another physical system with partially massless symmetry and its connection with topologically massive gravity is discussed.

Duality invariance in massive theories

In this work, we show that duality symmetry can be implemented for massive theories at the level of the action, whenever we can formulate appropriates gauge invariant actions. For a massive vectorial field, we use a known gauge invariant description, while for a massive graviton, we introduce a novel gauge invariant action in order to show duality invariance.

First Order Actions for New Massive Dual Gravities

We present a first order formulation for the fourth order action of the new massive dual gravity in four dimensions. This proposal is easily generalized to arbitrary dimension. Also, we obtain the dual actions for massless and massive Curtright fields in D dimensions.

Master actions for linearized massive gravity models in 3-D

We present a unified analysis of the self-dual, second order, topologically massive and the recently introduced fourth order models of massive gravity in 3D. We show that there is a family of first order actions which interpolate between these different single excitation models. We show how the master actions are related by duality transformation. We construct by the same method the master action which relates the fourth order new massive model with two excitations and the usual second order model with Fierz-Pauli mass. We show that the more general model obtained by adding a Chern-Simons term to the new massive model is equivalent off shell to the second order spontaneously broken linearized massive gravity.

A non local unitary vector model in 3-D

We present a unified analysis of single excitation vector models in 3D. We show that there is a family of first order master actions related by duality transformations which interpolate between the different models. We use a Hamiltonian (2+1) analysis to show the equivalence of the self-dual and topologically massive models with a covariant non local model which propagates also a single massive excitation. It is shown how the non local terms appears naturally in the path integral framework.

A Note About Localized Photons on the Brane

A first order formulation for the Maxwell field in five dimensions is dimensionally reduced using the Randall-Sundrum mechanism. We will see that massive photons can not be localized on the brane.

On Duality in the Born-Infeld Theory

The $SL(2,R)$ duality symmetric action for the Born-Infeld theory in terms of two potentials, coupled with non-trivial backgroud fields in four dimensions is established. This construction is carried out in detail by analysing the hamiltonian structure of the Born-Infeld theory. The equivalence with the usual Born-Infeld theory is shown.

Gauge invariance for the massive axion

A massive gauge invariant formulation for scalar ($ϕ$) and antisymmetric ($C_{mnp}$) fields with a topological coupling, which provides a mass for the axion field, is considered. The dual and local equivalence with the non-gauge invariant proposal is established, but on manifolds with non-trivial topological structure both formulations are not globally equivalent.

The Abelian Topological Mass Mechanism From Dimensional Reduction

We show that the abelian topological mass mechanism in four dimensions, described by the Cremmer-Sherk action, can be obtained from dimensional reduction in five dimensions. Starting from a gauge invariant action in five dimensions, where the dual equivalence between a massless vector field and a massless second-rank antisymmetric field in five dimensions is established, the dimensional reduction is performed keeping only one massive mode. Furthermore, the Kalb-Ramond action and the Stuckelberger formulation for massive spin-1 are recovered.
