Role of Metastable Dicationic Intermediates in the Breakup of CH$_4^{2+}$

We investigate the fragmentation dynamics of methane dication (CH$_4^{2+}$) produced in collisions with 50-MeV C$^{6+}$ ions using the COLTRIMS technique. The method provides complete three-dimensional momentum vectors of the charged fragments, enabling full kinematic reconstruction of the fragmentation process. The dynamics are analyzed using Dalitz plots, Newton diagrams, and the native-frame method to distinguish between concerted and sequential dissociation mechanisms. The data indicate the presence of sequential fragmentation pathways for the CH$_4^{2+}$ $\rightarrow$ CH$_2^+$ + H$^+$ + H, CH$_4^{2+}$ $\rightarrow$ CH$^+$ + H$^+$ + 2H, and CH$_4^{2+}$ $\rightarrow$ C$^+$ + H$^+$ + 3H channels, consistent with dissociation via short-lived dicationic intermediates CH$_3^{2+}$, CH$_2^{2+}$, and CH$^{2+}$, respectively. From the Newton-diagram momentum distributions, we further estimate the half-rotational periods of the intermediate states, providing insight into their rotational dynamics and finite lifetimes prior to fragmentation. The experimental observations are further supported by comparisons with calculated potential-energy curves.

Investigation of charge carrier dynamics in Ti3C2Tx MXene for ultrafast photonics applications

The rapid advancement of nanomaterials has paved the way for various technological breakthroughs, and MXenes, in particular, have gained substantial attention due to their unique properties such as high conductivity, broad-spectrum absorption strength, and tunable band gap. This article presents the impact of the process parameters on the structural and optical properties of Ti3C2Tx MXene for application in ultrafast dynamics. XRD along with Raman spectroscopy studies, confirmed the synthesis of a single phase from their MAX phase Ti3AlC2. The complete etching of Al and increase in the interplanar distance is also observed on centrifugation at very high speed. The ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy used to understand the effect of centrifuge speed on the charge carrier dynamics and ultrafast spectrum of MXene displayed that the carrier lifetime is critically influenced by rotation per minute (rpm) e.g. faster decay lifetime at 10k rpm than 7k rpm. The electronic relaxation probed using the time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) technique exhibits an average decay time of 5.13 ns and 5.35 ns at the 7k and 10k rpm, respectively, which confirms that the optical properties of the MXene are strongly affected by the centrifuge speed. The synthesized MXene at 10k rpm typically suggests that radiative processes due to longer decay lifetime and experiences fewer nonradiative losses, resulting in enhanced luminescence properties.

Cross Layer Adaptation for QoS in WSN

In this paper, we propose QoS aware MAC protocol for Wire- less Sensor Networks and its cross layer extension to network layer for providing QoS in delay sensitive WSN scenarios. In WSNs, there can be two types of traffic one is event driven traffic which requires immedi- ate attention and another is periodic reporting. Event driven traffic is classified as Class I(delay sensitive) traffic and periodic reporting is clas- sified as Class II(Best Effort) Traffic. MAC layer adaptation can take place in terms of (i) Dynamic contention window adjustment per class, (ii) Reducing the delay suffered by difference in Sleep schedules(DSS) of communicating nodes by dynamically adjusting Duty Cycle based on Utilization and DSS delay of class I traffic, (iii) Different DIFS (DCF Inter Frame Spacing) per class, (iv) Adjusting all the three schemes pro- posed above simultaneously. Cross layer extension is also proposed, in which MAC layer uses network layer's next hop information for better adaptation of duty cycle based on DSS delay. Routing protocols can uti- lize MAC layer parameter DSS delay to select the routes which offer least DSS delay latency, there by minimizing the overall end-to-end delay.
