The norm of the backward shift on $H^4$ is $\sqrt[4]φ$

We prove that the backward shift operator on $H^4$ has norm equal to $\sqrt[4]φ$, with $φ= \frac{1 + \sqrt{5}}{2}$. Furthermore, we characterize all extremal functions; they are precisely the functions of the form \[ f(z) = μ\left( I(z) - \sqrt{\frac{1}{2φ}}\right), \] where $μ\in \mathbb{C}$ and $I$ is an inner function with $I(0) = \sqrt{\fracφ{2}}$.

$A^p_α$ classes in the Dirichlet range: inner-outer factorization, Carleson measures and weak products

We study properties of $A^p_α$ spaces in the Dirichlet range, recently defined by Brevig, Kulikov, Seip and Zlotnikov as the set of all holomorphic functions on the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ such that \[ \int_{\mathbb{D}} |f(z)|^{p-2} |f'(z)|^2 (1 - |z|^2)^α \, dA(z) < \infty, \] when $0<α< 1$ and $p > 0$. We answer in the negative two questions posed by Brevig et al. by showing that, if $p\ne2$ and $p > \frac{1}{2}$, $A^p_α$ is not a vector space and that the norm is in general not increasing in $p$. This is achieved by means of an equivalent description for $A^p_α$ which is given in terms of the Poisson integral of the boundary function of its inhabitants. Such norm also leads to a description of $A^p_α$ functions in the Dirichlet range given in terms of their inner and outer factors. As a corollary, we show that $A^1_α$ is contained in the weak product of a Dirichlet-type space.

Restrictions of Békollé--Bonami weights and Bloch functions

We characterize the restrictions of Békollé--Bonami weights of bounded hyperbolic oscillation, to subsets of the unit disc, thus proving an analogue of Wolff's restriction theorem for Muckenhoupt weights. Sundberg proved a discrete version of Wolff's original theorem, by characterizing the trace of $BMO$-functions onto interpolating sequences. We consider an analogous question in our setting, by studying the trace of Bloch functions. Through Makarov's probabilistic approach to the Bloch space, our question can be recast as a restriction problem for dyadic martingales with uniformly bounded increments.

Korenblum's principle for Bergman spaces with radial weights

We show that the Korenblum maximum (domination) principle is valid for weighted Bergman spaces $A^p_w$ with arbitrary (non-negative and integrable) radial weights $w$ in the case $1\le p<\infty$. We also notice that in every weighted Bergman space the supremum of all radii for which the principle holds is strictly smaller than one. Under the mild additional assumption $\liminf_{r\to 0^+} w(r)>0$, we show that the principle fails whenever $0<p<1$.

Critical exponents of the Riesz projection

Let $\mathfrak{p}_d(q)$ denote the critical exponent of the Riesz projection from $L^q(\mathbb{T}^d)$ to the Hardy space $H^p(\mathbb{T}^d)$, where $\mathbb{T}$ is the unit circle. We present the state-of-the-art on the conjecture that $\mathfrak{p}_1(q) = 4(1-1/q)$ for $1 \leq q \leq \infty$ and prove that it holds in the endpoint case $q = 1$. We then extend the conjecture to \[\mathfrak{p}_d(q) = 2+\cfrac{2}{d+\cfrac{2}{q-2}}\] for $d\geq1$ and $\frac{2d}{d+1} \leq q \leq \infty$ and establish that if the conjecture holds for $d=1$, then it also holds for $d=2$. When $d=2$, we verify that the conjecture holds in the endpoint case $q = 4/3$.

On the convolution of convex 2-gons

We study the convolution of functions of the form \[ f_α(z) := \dfrac{\left( \frac{1 + z}{1 - z} \right)^α- 1}{2 α}, \] which map the open unit disk of the complex plane onto polygons of 2 edges when $α\in(0,1)$. We extend results by Cima by studying limits of convolutions of finitely many $f_α$ and by considering the convolution of arbitrary unbounded convex mappings. The analysis for the latter is based on the notion of angle at infinity, which provides an estimate for the growth at infinity and determines whether the convolution is bounded or not. A generalization to an arbitrary number of factors shows that the convolution of $n$ randomly chosen unbounded convex mappings has a probability of $1/n!$ of remaining unbounded. We also extend Cima's analysis on the coefficients of the functions $f_α$ by providing precise asymptotic behavior for all $α$.

On a conjecture about contractive inequalities for weighted Bergman spaces

We are interested in the norm of the inclusion between the standard weighted Bergman spaces $A^2_α$ and $A^p_{\frac{p}{2} (α+ 2)-2}$, $p > 2$, which is conjectured to be contractive by O.F. Brevig, J. Ortega-Cerdà, K. Seip and J. Zhao (in the limit case $α= -1$) and E. Lieb and J.P. Solovej (for $α> -1$). We provide some partial answers and improvements of some recent results.

Contractive inequalities for mixed norm spaces and the Beta function

For a wide range of pairs of mixed norm spaces such that one space is contained in another, we characterize all cases when contractive norm inequalities hold. In particular, this yields such results for many pairs of weighted Bergman spaces. Some inequalities of this type are motivated by their applications in Number Theory and in Mathematical Physics.

Norms of inclusions between some spaces of analytic functions

The inclusions between the Besov spaces $B^q$, the Bloch space $\mathcal{B}$ and the standard weighted Bergman spaces $A^p_α$ are completely understood, but the norms of the corresponding inclusion operators are in general unknown. In this work, we compute or estimate asymptotically the norms of these inclusions.
