On the Constitutive Relations in Thermo-Electroelasticity

We give a derivation of the thermodynamic restrictions on the constitutive relations of an electrically polarizable and finitely deformable heat conducting elastic continuum, interacting with the electric field. This is made following the method of Coleman-Noll in a thermodynamic theory with the Clausius-Duhem inequality.

Some General Theorems of Incremental Thermoelectroelasticity

We extend to incremental thermoelectroelasticity with biasing fields certain classical theorems, that have been stated and proved in linear thermopiezoelectricity referred to a natural configuration. A uniqueness theorem for the solutions to the initial boundary value problem, the generalized Hamilton principle and a theorem of reciprocity of work are deduced for incremental fields superposed on finite biasing fields in a thermoelectroelastic body.

On Boundary Control Problems in Slow Processes for Piezothermoelastic Plates

We consider a piezothermoelastic panel occupied by a material of hexagonal crystal class. We study the response when the boundary conditions vary very slowly with time and one of the bounding faces is subject to thermal exposure. We show that in some cases the temperature on the other bounding face can be controlled by the difference of electric potential between the faces.

On controllability and observability of chains formed by point masses connected with springs and dashpots

We consider a physical system constituted by a finite chain of point masses consecutively linked by linear springs and dashpots. At one of the end points acts an external control force aligned with the chain and the system is observable by the position of the other end point. We show that, whatever is the number of the point masses, if the sequence of the elastic constants is proportional to the sequence of the dashpot constants, then the mechanical system is completely controllable, completely observable, completely reachable and completely re-construictible, in the sense of control theory.
