Shellability of semidistributive lattices

We prove that join-semidistributive shellable lattices are join-extremal. In particular, every semidistributive shellable lattice is extremal. Together with known results, this gives the equivalence between extremality, left modularity, EL-shellability and shellability for semidistributive lattices. This answers open questions of M\"uhle and Segovia.

$(P,\phi)$-Tamari and higher torsion lattices of type $\mathbf{A}$

The goal of this work is to study the combinatorics of the lattices of higher torsion classes of the higher Auslander and Nakayama algebras of type \textbf{A}. Combinatorial descriptions of these higher torsion classes were recently obtained by August \textit{et al.} (2025), and it was observed that the lattices that they form are not semidistributive. We study in some depth these lattices, proving in particular that the lattices of higher torsion classes of the higher Auslander algebras of type \textbf{A} are join-semidistributive, join-extremal and left modular. We also prove that the lattices of higher torsion classes of the higher Nakayama algebras of type \textbf{A} are lattice quotients of them. In order to prove these results, we define a general construction that produces a lattice, which we call $(P,\phi)$-Tamari, for any choice of poset $P$ and chain $\phi$ in $P$. We prove the lattice results for this general construction. When $P=\phi$ is a chain, we recover the Tamari lattice, whereas the lattices of higher torsion classes that we study are obtained for another very particular choice.

Extremality in semidistributive lattices

We establish several independent results concerning extremal, left modular, congruence uniform, and semidistributive lattices. An equivalent characterization of left modular lattices is obtained in terms of edge-labellings, together with necessary and sufficient conditions on the doubling steps in the construction of congruence normal lattices that ensure left modularity or extremality. We prove that a congruence uniform lattice is shellable if and only if it is extremal. We answer a question of Barnard by constructing a counterexample showing that an induced subcomplex of a canonical join complex need not itself be such a complex. Finally, we show that the order dimension of a semidistributive extremal lattice equals the chromatic number of the complement of its Galois graph, generalizing a theorem of Dilworth for distributive lattices. As an application, we determine the dimensions of generalizations of the Hochschild lattice, of the parabolic Tamari lattice, and of some lattices of torsion classes.

$(P,\phi)$-Tamari lattices

Given any poset $P$ and chain $\phi$ in $P$, we define the $(P,\phi)$-Tamari lattice. We study in depth these lattices and prove in particular that they are join-semidistributive, join-congruence uniform and left modular. We prove that the lattices of higher torsion classes of the higher Auslander and Nakayama algebras of type $\mathbb{A}$ are examples of $(P,\phi)$-Tamari lattices and thus they inherit their properties. We also give general results related to left modular, extremal and congruence normal lattices.

Rowmotion and Echelonmotion

Given a linear extension $\sigma$ of a finite poset $R$, we consider the permutation matrix indexing the Schubert cell containing the Cartan matrix of $R$ with respect to $\sigma$. This yields a bijection $\mathrm{Ech}_\sigma\colon R\to R$ that we call echelonmotion; it is the inverse of the Coxeter permutation studied by Kl\'asz, Marczinzik, and Thomas. Those authors proved that echelonmotion agrees with rowmotion when $R$ is a distributive lattice. We generalize this result to semidistributive lattices. In addition, we prove that every trim lattice has a linear extension with respect to which echelonmotion agrees with rowmotion. We also show that echelonmotion on an Eulerian poset (with respect to any linear extension) is an involution. Finally, we initiate the study of echelon-independent posets, which are posets for which echelonmotion is independent of the chosen linear extension. We prove that a lattice is echelon-independent if and only if it is semidistributive. Moreover, we show that echelon-independent connected posets are bounded and have semidistributive MacNeille completions.

Dimension of unicycle posets

Motivated by the study of the dimension of random posets, it was conjectured by Bollob\'as and Brightwell in 1997 that if $P$ is a finite poset whose cover graph contains at most one cycle then its order dimension is at most $3$. In this paper we prove this conjecture by giving a constructive proof with explicit triplets of linear extensions realizing such posets.

The free and parking quasi-symmetrizing actions

We define two actions of the infinite symmetric group on the set of words on positive integers, called the free and parking quasi-symmetrizing actions, whose invariants are respectively the elements of the Hopf algebras $\textbf{FQSym}^*$ and $\textbf{PQSym}^*$. We study in depth the parking quasi-symmetrizing action by generalizing it to actions with a parameter $r\in(\mathbb{N}\setminus \{0\} )\bigcup\{\infty\}$. We prove that the spaces of the invariants under these $r$-actions form an infinite chain of nested graded Hopf subalgebras of $\textbf{PQSym}^*$. We give some properties of these Hopf algebras including their Hilbert series, a basis, and formulas for their product and coproduct. Finally we look more closely at the case $r=\infty$, obtaining enumerative results related to trees with maximal decreasing subtrees of given sizes.

Proof of a conjecture of Matherne, Morales, and Selover on encodings of unit interval orders

There are two bijections from unit interval orders on $n$ elements to Dyck paths from $(0,0)$ to $(n,n)$. One is to consider the pairs of incomparable elements, which form the set of boxes between some Dyck path and the diagonal. Another is to find a particular part listing (in the sense of Guay-Paquet) which yields an isomorphic poset, and to interpret the part listing as the area sequence of a Dyck path. Matherne, Morales, and Selover conjectured that, for any unit interval order, these two Dyck paths are related by Haglund's well-known zeta bijection. In this paper we prove their conjecture.
