Higgs boson production at large transverse momentum within SMEFT: analytical results

We consider Higgs boson production through gluon fusion at large transverse momentum in hadronic collisions. We present the analytic expressions of the relevant one-loop QCD amplitudes including the effects of the complete set of dimension-six operators. The latter correspond to modifications of the top and bottom Yukawa couplings, to an effective point-like Higgs coupling to gluons and to the chromomagnetic operator of the top quark. The quantitative impact of the chromomagnetic operator is also studied. Our results confirm previous findings that the effect of the chromomagnetic operator at high $p_T$ can be large and should not be neglected.

Constraining Extended Scalar Sectors at the LHC and beyond

We give a brief overview of beyond the Standard Model (BSM) theories with an extended scalar sector and their phenomenological status in the light of recent experimental results. We discuss the relevant theoretical and experimental constraints, and show their impact on the allowed parameter space of two specific models: the real scalar singlet extension of the Standard Model (SM) and the Inert Doublet Model. We emphasize the importance of the LHC measurements, both the direct searches for additional scalar bosons, as well as the precise measurements of properties of the Higgs boson of mass 125 GeV. We show the complementarity of these measurements to electroweak and dark matter observables.

The HiggsTools Handbook: Concepts and observables for deciphering the Nature of the Higgs Sector

This Report summarizes some of the activities of the HiggsTools Initial Training Network working group in the period 2015-2017. The main goal of this working group was to produce a document discussing various aspects of state-of-the-art Higgs physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in a pedagogic manner. The first part of the Report is devoted to a description of phenomenological searches for New Physics at the LHC. As the experimental measurements become more and more precise, there is a pressing need for a consistent framework in which deviations from the SM predictions can be computed precisely. We critically review the use of the \k{appa}-framework, fiducial and simplified template cross sections, effective field theories, pseudo-observables and phenomenological Lagrangians. In the second part of the Report, we propose $φ_η^*$ as a new and complementary observable for studying Higgs boson production at large transverse momentum in the case where the Higgs boson decays to two photons. We make a detailed study of the phenomenology of the $φ_η^*$ variable, contrasting the behaviour with the Higgs transverse momentum distribution using a variety of theoretical tools including event generators and fixed order perturbative computations.

Effective Field Theory for Higgs properties parametrisation: the transverse momentum spectrum case

After the Higgs boson discovery, LHC can be used as a precision machine to explore its properties. Indeed, in case new resonances will not be found, the only access to New Physics would be via measuring small deviations from the SM predictions. A consistent approach is provided by a bottom-up Effective Field Theory, with dimension six operators built of Standard Model fields (SMEFT). We discuss how this approach works in case of the transverse momentum spectrum of the Higgs particle. In our calculation we augmented the Standard Model with three additional operators describing modifications of the top and bottom Yukawa couplings, and a point-like Higgs coupling to gluons. Based on recently presented resummed transverse-momentum spectra including these operators at NLL+NLO accuracy, which we recently presented in Ref [1], in this note we show the extension of the calculation to NNLL+NNLO. We find that such modifications, while affecting the total rate within the current uncertainties, can lead to significant distortions of the spectrum. Additionally, through significant reduction of the scale uncertainty we improve the sensitivity to the new operators.

IDM and not only

In this note, we discuss recent updates to a previous scan for the Inert Doublet Model, a two Higgs doublet model with a dark matter candidate. We explicitly show the inclusion of updated constraints on direct detection reduces the allowed parameter space significantly. We furthermore discuss the IDMS - an extension of the IDM with a complex singlet.

Modeling BSM effects on the Higgs transverse-momentum spectrum in an EFT approach

We consider the transverse-momentum distribution of a Higgs boson produced through gluon fusion in hadron collisions. At small transverse momenta, the large logarithmic terms are resummed up to next-to-leading-logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. The resummed computation is consistently matched to the next-to-leading-order (NLO) result valid at large transverse momenta. The ensuing Standard Model prediction is supplemented by possible new-physics effects parametrised through three dimension-six operators related to the modification of the top and bottom Yukawa couplings, and to the inclusion of a point-like Higgs-gluon coupling, respectively. We present resummed transverse-momentum spectra including the effect of these operators at NLL+NLO accuracy and study their impact on the shape of the distribution. We find that such modifications, while affecting the total rate within the current uncertainties, can lead to significant distortions of the spectrum. The proper parametrization of such effects becomes increasingly important for experimental analyses in Run II of the LHC.

Inert Doublet Model in light of LHC Run I and astrophysical data

We discuss the parameter space of the Inert Doublet Model, a two Higgs doublet model with a dark matter candidate. An extensive set of theoretical and experimental constraints on this model is considered, where both collider as well as astroparticle data limits, the latter in the form of dark matter relic density as well as direct detection, are taken into account. We discuss the effects of these constraints on the parameter space of the model. In particular, we do not require the IDM to provide the full dark matter content of the universe, which opens up additional regions in the parameter space accessible at collider experiments. The combination of all constraints leads to a relatively strong mass degeneracy in the dark scalar sector for masses < 200 GeV, and to a minimal scale ~ 45 GeV for the dark scalar masses. We also observe a stringent mass hierarchy MH > MA. We propose benchmark points and benchmark planes for dark scalar pair-production for the current LHC run being in compliance with all theoretical as well as experimental bounds.

BSM effects on the Higgs transverse-momentum spectrum in an EFT approach

Effective Field Theories offer a consistent bottom-up approach to parametrise small deviations from Standard Model predictions. In this work we report on the application of the Effective Field Theory to shed light on effects from high-scale physics beyond the Standard Model on the Higgs transverse-momentum spectrum. The Standard Model prediction for the transverse-momentum distribution in Higgs boson production through gluon fusion is augmented by three new dimension-six operators, implying the modification of the top and bottom Yukawa couplings, and the inclusion of a point-like Higgs-gluon coupling. We present resummed transverse-momentum spectra including these operators at NLO+NLL accuracy and study their effects on the shape of the distribution. The proper parametrization of such effects becomes increasingly important for experimental analyses in Run II of the LHC.

Constraining the Inert Doublet Model

We give a survey on current constraints on the Inert Doublet Model parameter space, including all theoretical as well as experimental limits from collider and astrophysical data. For allowed regions in the parameter space, we provide total production cross sections for the pair-production of scalars at the 13 TeV LHC and propose benchmarks scenarios which should be investigated by the LHC experiments at Run II.
