Kerr-Taub-NUT spacetime to explain the jet power and the radiative efficiency of astrophysical black holes

In this work, we investigate the electromagnetic energy released by astrophysical black holes within the Kerr-Taub-NUT solution, which describes rotating black holes with a nonvanishing gravitomagnetic charge. In our study, we consider the black holes in the X-ray binary systems GRS 1915+105, GRO J1655-40, XTE J1550-564, A0620-00, H1743-322, and GRS 1124-683. We show that the Kerr-Taub-NUT spacetime can explain the radiative efficiency of these sources inferred from the continuum fitting method (CFM). We also show that, in the framework of the Blandford-Znajeck mechanism, it is possible to reproduce the observed jet power. We unify the results of the two analyses for the selected objects to get more stringent constraints on the spacetime parameters. We show that, as in the case of the Kerr spacetime, the Kerr-Taub-NUT solution cannot simultaneously explain the observed jet power and radiative efficiency of GRS 1915+105.

Circular motion of particle around Schwarzschild-MOG black hole

In this note, we have analyzed the circular motion of test particles around the Schwarzschild-MOG black hole. First, we have studied the shadow cast by the spherical symmetric black hole within MOG gravity. It has been shown that due to the effect of MOG both the photonspere and shadow of the black hole increase. We have also shown that the characteristic radii of massive particles circularly orbiting around the Schwarzschild-MOG black hole, namely, the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCO) and marginally bound orbits are greater than that in pure Schwarzschild one. Assuming a black hole in the external uniform magnetic field we have studied the structure of the electromagnetic field. We have shown that the magnetic field behaves like non-uniform in the vicinity of the Schwarzschild-MOG black hole and field lines become denser. Finally, we investigated charged particles' motion around the Schwarzschild-MOG black hole in the presence of an external magnetic field and shown that the ISCO position for charged particle is always less than one for neutral particles.

Spinning magnetized particles orbiting magnetized Schwarzschild black holes

A way to test electromagnetic field and spacetime properties around black holes is by considering the dynamics of test particles. In fact, in real astrophysical scenarios, it is hard to determine spacetime geometry which is dominating due to degeneracy gravitational effects in parameters of gravity theories. In this work, we study for the first time the dynamics of spinning particles that have magnetic dipole moments around Schwarzschild black holes immersed in an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field using the Mathisson-Papapetrou-Dixon (MPD) equation. There are two combined interactions: gravitational interaction between the spin of the particle and (electro)magnetic interaction between the external magnetic field and the magnetic dipole moment of the particle to be taken into account. First, we derive the effective potential of the test spinning magnetized particles in motion around the black hole. We also study the combined effects of spin and magnetic interactions on innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs), the energy, and angular momentum of the particles at ISCO together with superluminal bounds. We investigated the collision of the particles and evaluated the center-of-mass energy in the collisions. Finally, we consider various cases in which neutron stars and rotating stellar mass black holes can be treated as spinning magnetized particles, evaluating the effects of the spin and magnetic moment of objects around supermassive and intermediate-mass black holes.

Quasiperiodic oscillations around hairy black holes in Horndeski gravity

Testing gravity theories and their parameters using observations is an important issue in relativistic astrophysics. In this context, we investigate the motion of test particles and their harmonic oscillations in the spacetime of non-rotating hairy black holes (BHs) in Hordeski gravity, together with astrophysical applications of quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs). We show possible values of upper and lower frequencies of twin-peak QPOs which may occur in the orbits from innermost stable circular orbits to infinity for various values of the Horndeski parameter $q$ in relativistic precession, warped disk models, and three different sub-models of the epicyclic resonant model. We also study the behaviour of the QPO orbits and their position relative to innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs) with respect to different values of the parameter $q$. {It is obtained that at a critical value of the Horndeski parameter ISCO radius takes $6M$ which has been in the pure Schwarzschild case.} Finally, we obtain mass constraints of the central BH of microquasars GRS 1915+105 and XTE 1550-564 at the GR limit and the possible value of the Horndeski parameter in the frame of the above-mentioned QPO models. The analysis of orbits of twin peak QPOs with the ratio of upper and lower frequencies 3:2, around the BHs in the frame of relativistic precession (RP) and epicyclic resonance (ER4) QPO models have shown that the orbits locate close to the ISCO. The distance between QPO orbits and ISCO is obtained to be less than the error of the observations.

Gravitational synchrotron radiation and Penrose process in STVG theory

The paper has explored analogue of gravitational synchrotron massive particle and Penrose process in MOdified Gravity (MOG) known as Scalar-Tensor-Vector-Gravity (STVG). Investigation of the gravitational field around Kerr-MOG black hole showed that it has strong gravitational field with large horizon and can rotate faster than Kerr black hole due to the effect of STVG. We have studied influence of STVG in circular motion of massive particle around Kerr-MOG black hole and discussed the Innermost Stable Circular Orbit (ISCO) of massive test particle. It is shown that STVG plays a crucial role in energy extraction from a rotating black hole, with an energy efficiency of more than $100\%$ according to the Penrose process. Furthermore, we have explored the gravitational synchrotron radiation analogue produced by a massive particle orbiting around a Kerr-MOG black hole. It has been shown that the intensity of gravitational radiation from binary systems of stellar black holes (SBH) and supermassive black holes (SMBH).

Probing Geometric Proca in Metric-Palatini Gravity with Black Hole Shadow and Photon Motion

Extended metric-Palatini gravity, quadratic in the antisymmetric part of the affine curvature, is known to lead to the general relativity plus a geometric Proca field. The geometric Proca, equivalent of the non-metricity vector in the torsion-free affine connection, qualifies to be a distinctive signature of the affine curvature. In the present work, we explore how shadow and photon motion near black holes can be used to probe the geometric Proca field. To this end, we derive static spherically symmetric field equations of this Einstein-geometric Proca theory, and show that it admits black hole solutions in asymptotically AdS background. We perform a detailed study of the optical properties and shadow of this black hole and contrast them with the observational data by considering black hole environments with and without plasma. As a useful astrophysical application, we discuss constraints on the Proca field parameters using the observed angular size of the shadow of supermassive black holes M87$^*$ and Sgr A$^*$ in both vacuum and plasma cases. Overall, we find that the geometric Proca can be probed via the black hole observations.

Testing the Metric-Affine Gravity Using Particle Dynamics and Photon Motion

This work mainly focuses to unveil the optical features of a black hole. For this objective, we utilize the metric-affine black hole geometry with the inclusion of dilation, spin, and shear charge. The Lagrangian coefficients $f_1$ and $d_1$ are the main parameters, where $f_1<0$, which differentiate the solutions by $d_1=8f_1,\;d_1=-8f_1,\;\&\;d_1=\pm8f_1$. Based on these parameters, we carry out this work in two cases, i.e., $d_1=8f_1,\;\&\;d_1=-8f_1$. We forecast the detailed impact of dilation, spin, and shear charges on the optical properties of the black holes in both cases. To unreveal the optical features, we calculate horizon radius, inner stable circular orbit, photon sphere radius, BH shadows, quasi-periodic oscillations, the red-blue shift of photon particles, effective force, weak gravitational lensing, and image magnification by using metric-affine gravity black hole geometry.

Quasiperiodic oscillations, weak field lensing and shadow cast around black holes in Symmergent gravity

In this work, we perform a systematic study of the symmergent gravity in a black hole environment. The symmergent gravity, an emergent gravity model in which gravity emerges in a way restoring the gauge symmetries and stabilizing the Higgs boson mass, possesses a quadratic-curvature term with a loop-induced coupling proportional to the boson-fermion number difference. We investigated boson-fermion number difference and black hole parameters in symmergent gravity by utilizing the values of various observables. In this regard, we investigated particle dynamics and obtained Keplerian frequencies describing the harmonic oscillations. We determined quasiperiodic oscillations about such orbits by utilizing relativistic precession, warped disk, and epicyclic resonant models. We studied weak deflection angle and planetary perihelion shift and determined bounds on symmergent gravity parameters. We computed shadow radius for both static and co-moving observers near and far from the symmergent black hole and revealed the sensitivity of these observers to the model parameters. We conclude the work by giving an overall discussion of the bounds, and giving future prospects concerning other possible analyses of the symmergent gravity.

Optical Properties of an Axially Symmetric Black Hole in the Rastall Gravity

This work is devoted to the study of the optical properties of the charged-rotating-NUT-Kiselev (CRNK) black hole in the Rastall theory of gravity. By investigating the motion of photons in the CRNK black hole spacetime in the Rastall gravity we show that the deflection angle of photons due to the gravitational lensing is mostly influenced by the NUT charge, parameter of the equation of state for the quintessence and the quintessential intensity. We observe that the effects of the rest of the spacetime parameters are negligible on the deflection angle. We present the shape of the shadow cast by the CRNK black hole in the Rastall gravity for various values of the spacetime parameters. We demonstrate that spin parameter $a$ of the black hole changes the position and size of the shadow of the black hole very little. While changing the values of the rest of the spacetime parameters can alter the shape and the size of the observed shadow of the black hole significantly. We observe that the radius of the black hole shadow and the deflection angle of a photon are bigger for the CRNK black hole in the Rastall gravity, as compared with the case of the Kerr black hole. Lastly, we show how the spacetime parameters can change the observables $R_s$ and $δ_s$, being the average radius of the shadow and the distortion parameter that measures the deviation of the shape of the shadow from a perfect circle with radius $R_s$, respectively. Our results show that in most scenarios, for bigger values of $R_s$ we get smaller values of the parameter $δ_s$.

Spinning test particle motion around a rotating wormhole

In this work, we investigated the motion of spinning test particles around a rotating wormhole, extending, in this way, the previous work of Benavides-Gallego et al. in [Phys. Rev. D 101, no.12, 124024] to the general case. Using the Mathisson-Papapetrous-Dixon equations, we study the effective potential, circular orbits, and the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) of spinning test particles. We found that both the particle and wormhole spins affect the location of the ISCO significantly. On the other hand, Similar to the non-rotating case, we also found two possible configurations in the effective potential: plus and minus. Furthermore, the minimum value of the effective potential is not at the throat due to its spin, in contrast to the motion of the non-spinning test particles in a non-rotating wormhole, where the effective potential is symmetric, and its minimum value is at the throat. In the case of the ISCO, we found that it increases as the spin of the wormhole a increases, in contrast to black holes where the presence of spin decreases the value of the ISCO. Finally, since the dynamical four-momentum and kinematical four-velocity of the spinning particle are not always parallel, we consider the superluminal bound, finding that the allowed values of s change as the wormhole's spin a increases.

Effects of gravitational lensing on neutrino oscillation in $ γ$-spacetime

We study the effects of gravitational lensing on neutrino oscillations in the $γ$-spacetime which describes a static, axially-symmetric and asymptotically flat solution of the Einstein's field equations in vacuum. Using the quantum-mechanical treatment for relativistic neutrinos, we calculate the phase of neutrino oscillations in this spacetime by considering both radial and non-radial propagation. We show the dependence of the oscillation probability on the absolute neutrino masses, which in the two-flavor case also depends upon the sign of mass squared difference, in sharp contrast with the well-known results of vacuum oscillation in flat spacetime. We also show the effects of the deformation parameter $γ$ on neutrino oscillations and reproduce previously known results for the Schwarzschild metric. We then extend these to a more realistic three flavors neutrino scenario and study the effects of the parameter $γ$ and the lightest neutrino mass while using best fit values of neutrino oscillation parameters.

Strong gravitational lensing around Kehagias-Sfetsos compact objects surrounded by plasma

We present the analysis how Hořava gravity and plasma influence the strong lensing phenomena around Kehagias-Sfetsos (KS) black holes. Using the semi-analytical Bozza method of strong lensing limit, we determine the multiple images, namely their separation S, and magnification R. We apply our calculations to the case of supermassive black hole having mass $M=6.5\times 10^{9}\textrm{M}_\odot$ and being at distance $d_0=16.8\textrm{Mpc}$ from observer corresponding to those observed in M87. We show that the sensitivity of image magnification, image separation, and shadow angular size on KS parameter $ω$ and plasma parameter $k$ are of order from $1\%$ to $10\%$ for $R$ and $~\,16\%$ for $S$.

Dynamics and Fundamental Frequencies of Test Particles Orbiting Kerr-Newman-NUT-Kiselev Blacks Hole in Rastall Gravity

The spacetime properties in the exterior of the Kerr-Newman-NUT-Kiselev black hole in the Rastall theory of gravity, through particle dynamics are investigated with the aim to find possible degeneracy of the different black hole parameters. We show that the effective potential, the energy, and the angular momentum of a test particle moving in the spacetime of such a black hole strongly depend on the central black hole parameters. We also evaluate the innermost stable circular orbit radii of test particles and show how the spacetime parameters can act on them. Further, we show the results for the fundamental frequencies of test particles moving at small distances from the circular orbits in the equatorial plane. We demonstrate that change in the Rastall parameter $κλ$, can make the radial epicyclic frequency to become zero at larger distances from the central source. We also notice that for the vertical epicyclic frequencies, in the case of the Kerr-Newman-NUT-Kiselev black hole in the Rastall theory of gravity lower frequencies are observed as compared to the frequencies observed in the case of the Kerr black hole. Finally, we show that for the Kerr-Newman-NUT-Kiselev black hole in the Rastall gravity, the Keplerian frequencies are almost identical with the frequencies noticed in the case of the Kerr black hole and the difference between the two can only be observed in the regions in a very close vicinity to the central black hole, studied in the present work.

Axion-plasmon or magnetized plasma effect on an observable shadow and gravitational lensing of a Schwarzschild black hole

In this paper, we study the influence of the axion-plasmon, as proposed in (Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 181803 (2018)) on the optical properties of the Schwarzschild black hole. Our aim is to provide a test to detect the effects of a fixed axion background using black holes. To accomplish our goal, we explore the effect of the axion-plasmon coupling on the motion of photons around the Schwarzschild black hole and check the possibility of observing those effects upon the black hole shadow, the gravitational deflection angle, Einstein rings and shadow images obtained by radially infalling gas on a black hole within a plasma medium. We find that these quantities are indeed affected by the axion-plasmon coupling parameters which consequently generalize some of the well-known results in the literature. It is shown that the size of the black hole shadow decreases with increasing axion-plasmon if observed from sufficiently large distance.

Particle motion around a static axially symmetric wormhole

We consider the properties of a static axially symmetric wormhole described by an exact solution of Einstein's field equations and investigate how we can distinguish such a hypothetical object from a black hole. To this aim, we explore the motion of test particles and photons in the wormhole's space-time and compare it with the particle dynamics in the well known space-times of Schwarzschild and Kerr black holes. We show that precise simultaneous measurement of test particle motion and photon motion may provide the means to distinguish the wormhole geometry from that of a black hole.

Motion of Particles and Gravitational Lensing Around (2+1)-dimensional BTZ black holes in Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

We study motion of test particles and photons in the vicinity of (2+1) dimensional Gauss-Bonnet (GB) BTZ black hole. We find that the presence of the coupling constant serves as an attractive gravitational charge, shifting the innermost stable circular orbits outward with respect to the one for this theory in 4 dimensions. Further we consider the gravitational lensing, to test the GB gravity in (2+1) dimensions and show that the presence of GB parameter causes the bending angle to grow up first with the increase of the inverse of closest approach distance, $u_0$, then have its maximum value for specific $u_0^*$, and then reduce until zero. We also show that increase in the value of the GB parameter makes the bending angle smaller and the increase in the absolute value of the negative cosmological constant produces opposite effect on this angle.

Spinning test particle motion around a traversable wormhole

The motion of spinning test particles around a traversable wormhole is investigated using the Mathisson Papapetrous Dixon equations, which couple the Riemann tensor with the antisymmetric tensor $S^{ab}$, related to the spin of the particle. Hence, we study the effective potential, circular orbits, and innermost stable circular orbit ISCO of spinning particles. We found that the spin affects significantly the location of the ISCO, in contrast with the motion of nonspinning particles, where the ISCO is the same in both the upper and lower universes. On the other hand, since the dynamical fourmomentum and kinematical fourvelocity of the spinning particle are not always parallel, we also consider a superluminal bound on the particles motion. In the case of circular orbits at the ISCO, we found that the motion of particles with an adimensional spin parameter lower greater than $s=-1.5$ $(1.5)$ is forbidden. The spin interaction becomes important for Kerr black hole orbiting super massive wormholes SMWH.

Charged particle motion around a magnetized Reissner-Nordström black hole

We investigate the dynamics of neutral and charged test particles around axially symmetric magnetized black hole spacetime. We consider its electromagnetic field in the black hole vicinity and study its impact on the dynamics of test particles. We determine the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for neutral and charged test particles and show that the combined effect of black hole electric charge and magnetic field strongly affects the ISCO radius, thus shrinking its values. We also show that the ISCO radius of positively (negatively) charged particle initially gets increased (decreased) and then gets radically altered with an increase in the value of both black hole electric charge and test particle charge. It turns out that the repulsive (attractive) Coulomb force dominates over the Lorentz force arising from the black hole magnetic field. Typically, black hole rotation causes axially symmetric spacetime case. Similarly, it turns out that a magnetized black hole solution also causes axially symmetric spacetime as a consequence of the presence of magnetic field. We study a degeneracy for the value of the ISCO between the Kerr and the magnetized Reissner-Nordström black hole geometries and show that the combined effects of black hole charge and magnetic field can be mimicked by Kerr spacetime with the spin parameter up to $a/M\approx 0.8$. Finally, we consider the center of mass energy of colliding particles and show that an increase in the values of black hole magnetic field and electric charge leads to high center of mass energy extracted by collision of two particles.
