Comparative Evaluation of Machine Learning and Deep Learning Models for Wound-Rotor Synchronous Motor Performance Prediction

Wound rotor synchronous motors have emerged as a strong alternative that eliminates dependence on REEs. However, WRSM design requires the simultaneous optimization of numerous geometric and electromagnetic parameters, and the high computational cost of conventional finite element analysis severely limits the rapid exploration of the large parameter space. Although there are machine-learning-based surrogate modeling studies in the literature, they generally compare only a limited number of models, exclude deep learning architectures, and do not provide a comprehensive benchmark specific to WRSM. In this study, the performance of a total of eight machine learning and deep learning models from four different algorithmic families was systematically compared for the prediction of WRSM torque and motor efficiency. On a dataset of 3351 samples generated using Latin Hypercube Sampling in the Motor-CAD simulation environment, each model was trained with 10 different random seed values and tuned via Optuna hyperparameter optimization. Different from the existing literature, this study jointly offers a broad model spectrum including recent deep learning architectures such as FT Transformer, a multi-seed reproducibility protocol, and a Pareto analysis of the computational cost-accuracy trade-off. The results revealed that neural-network-based models systematically outperform tree-based models. The FT-Transformer model achieved the highest single-model accuracy with R^2 = 0.9928, producing predictions in 0.33 milliseconds and thus obtaining several orders of magnitude speedup compared to FEA. Model performances were evaluated in a multidimensional manner using R^2, MAE, RMSE, and MAPE metrics.

KS-Net: Multi-layer network model for determining the rotor type from motor parameters in interior PMSMs

The demand for high efficiency and precise control in electric drive systems has led to the widespread adoption of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (IPMSMs). The performance of these motors is significantly influenced by rotor geometry. Traditionally, rotor shape analysis has been conducted using the finite element method (FEM), which involves high computational costs. This study aims to classify the rotor shape (2D type, V type, Nabla type) of IPMSMs using electromagnetic parameters through machine learning-based methods and to demonstrate the applicability of this approach as an alternative to classical methods. In this context, a custom deep learning model, KS-Net, developed by the user, was comparatively evaluated against Cubic SVM, Quadratic SVM, Fine KNN, Cosine KNN, and Fine Tree algorithms. The balanced dataset, consisting of 9,000 samples, was tested using 10-fold cross-validation, and performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score were employed. The results indicate that the Cubic SVM and Quadratic SVM algorithms classified all samples flawlessly, achieving 100% accuracy, while the KS-Net model achieved 99.98% accuracy with only two misclassifications, demonstrating competitiveness with classical methods. This study shows that the rotor shape of IPMSMs can be predicted with high accuracy using data-driven approaches, offering a fast and cost-effective alternative to FEM-based analyses. The findings provide a solid foundation for accelerating motor design processes, developing automated rotor identification systems, and enabling data-driven fault diagnosis in engineering applications.

Deep Learning Approach to Bearing and Induction Motor Fault Diagnosis via Data Fusion

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are used to evaluate accelerometer and microphone data for bearing and induction motor diagnosis. A Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) recurrent neural network is used to combine sensor information effectively, highlighting the benefits of data fusion. This approach encourages researchers to focus on multi model diagnosis for constant speed data collection by proposing a comprehensive way to use deep learning and sensor fusion and encourages data scientists to collect more multi-sensor data, including acoustic and accelerometer datasets.

Optimized Relay Lens Design For High-Resolution Image Transmission In Military Target Detection Systems

The design and performance analysis of relay lenses that provide high-performance image transmission for target acquisition and tracking in military optical systems. Relay lenses are critical components for clear and lossless image transmission over long distances. In this study, the optical performance of a relay lens system designed and optimized using ZEMAX software is investigated in detail. The analysis focuses on important optical properties such as modulation transfer function (MTF), spot diagrams, Seidel diagram, field curvature and distortion. The results show that the lens has significant potential in military applications for target detection and tracking with high resolution and low aberration.
