Early Career Researcher Input to the European Strategy for Particle Physics Update: White Paper

This document, written by early career researchers (ECRs) in particle physics, aims to represent the perspectives of the European ECR community and serves as input for the 2025--2026 update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics. With input from a community-wide survey, it highlights key challenges faced by ECRs -- career stability, funding access and long-term research opportunities -- while proposing policy recommendations and targeted initiatives. It underscores the importance of practices fostering diverse, equitable, inclusive and healthy workplaces, as well as of stronger ECR communities, and highlights how effective communication and interdisciplinary collaborations reinforce the societal relevance of particle physics and promote continued support for large-scale and long-term projects. Finally, the future of both collider and beyond-collider experiments is addressed, emphasising the critical role of ECRs in shaping future projects. The ECR contribution is formed of two parts: the ten-page executive summary submitted as input to the European Strategy for Particle Physics Update and, as backup document, this extended white paper providing additional context.

The LHCb Sprucing and Analysis Productions

The LHCb detector underwent a comprehensive upgrade in preparation for the third data-taking run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), known as LHCb Upgrade I. The increased data rate of Run 3 not only posed data collection (Online) challenges but also significant Offline data processing and analysis ones. The offline processing and analysis model was consequently upgraded to handle the factor 30 increase in data volume and the associated demands of ever-growing analyst-level datasets, led by the LHCb Data Processing and Analysis (DPA) project. This paper documents the LHCb "Sprucing" - the centralised offline processing, selections and streaming of data - and "Analysis Productions" - the centralised and highly automated declarative nTuple production system. The DaVinci application used by analysis productions for tupling spruced data is described as well as the apd and lbconda tools for data retrieval and analysis environment configuration. These tools allow for greatly improved analyst workflows and analysis preservation. Finally, the approach to data processing and analysis in the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) era - LHCb Upgrade II - is discussed.

Prospects for searches of $b \to s ν\barν$ decays at FCC-ee

We investigate the physics reach and potential for the study of various decays involving a $b \to s ν\barν$ transition at the Future Circular Collider running electron-positron collisions at the $Z$-pole (FCC-ee). Signal and background candidates, which involve inclusive $Z$ contributions from $b\bar{b}$, $c\bar{c}$ and $uds$ final states, are simulated for a proposed multi-purpose detector. Signal candidates are selected using two Boosted Decision Tree algorithms. We determine expected relative sensitivities of $0.53\%$, $1.20\%$, $3.37\%$ and $9.86\%$ for the branching fractions of the $B^{0} \to K^{*0} ν\barν$, $B^{0}_{s} \to ϕν\barν$, $B^{0} \to K^{0}_{S} ν\barν$ and $Λ_{b}^{0} \to Λ^{0} ν\barν$ decays, respectively. In addition, we investigate the impact of detector design choices related to particle-identification and vertex resolution. The phenomenological impact of such measurements on the extraction of Standard Model and new physics parameters is also studied.

Deconvolution of the High Energy Particle Physics Data with Machine Learning

A method for correcting smearing effects using machine learning technique is presented. Compared to the standard deconvolution approaches in high energy particle physics, the method can use more than one reconstructed variable to predict the value of unsmeared quantity on an event-by-event basis. In this particular study, deconvolution is interpreted as a classification problem, and neural networks (NN) are trained to deconvolute the Z boson invariant mass spectrum generated with MadGraph and pythia8 Monte Carlo event generators in order to prove the principle. Results obtained from the machine learning method is presented and compared with the results obtained with traditional methods.
