Towards Emergency Scenarios: An Integrated Decision-making Framework of Multi-lane Platoon Reorganization

To enhance the ability for vehicle platoons to respond to emergency scenarios, a platoon distribution reorganization decision-making framework is proposed. This framework contains platoon distribution layer, vehicle cooperative decision-making layer and vehicle planning and control layer. Firstly, a reinforcement-learning-based platoon distribution model is presented, where a risk potential field is established to quantitatively assess driving risks, and a reward function tailored to the platoon reorganization process is constructed. Then, a coalition-game-based vehicle cooperative decision-making model is put forward, modeling the cooperative relationships among vehicles through dividing coalitions and generating the optimal decision results for each vehicle. Additionally, a novel graph-theory-based Platoon Disposition Index (PDI) is incorporated into the game reward function to measure the platoon's distribution state during the reorganization process, in order to accelerating the reorganization process. Finally, the validation of the proposed framework is conducted in two high-risk scenarios under random traffic flows. The results show that, compared to the baseline models, the proposed method can significantly reduce the collision rate and improve driving efficiency. Moreover, the model with PDI can significantly decrease the platoon formation reorganization time and improve the reorganization efficiency.

Towards Safe and Robust Autonomous Vehicle Platooning: A Self-Organizing Cooperative Control Framework

In hybrid traffic environments where human-driven vehicles (HDVs) and autonomous vehicles (AVs) coexist, achieving safe and robust decision-making for AV platooning remains a complex challenge. Existing platooning systems often struggle with dynamic formation management and adaptability, especially under complex and dynamic mixed-traffic conditions. To enhance autonomous vehicle platooning within these hybrid environments, this paper presents TriCoD, a twin-world safety-enhanced Data-Model-Knowledge Triple-Driven Cooperative Decision-making Framework. This framework integrates deep reinforcement learning (DRL) with model-driven approaches, enabling dynamic formation dissolution and reconfiguration through a safety-prioritized twin-world deduction mechanism. The DRL component augments traditional model-driven methods, enhancing both safety and operational efficiency, especially under emergency conditions. Additionally, an adaptive switching mechanism allows the system to seamlessly switch between data-driven and model-driven strategies based on real-time traffic demands, thus optimizing decision-making ability and adaptability. Simulation experiments and hardware-in-the-loop tests demonstrate that the proposed framework significantly improves safety, robustness, and flexibility.

Application of Data-Driven Model Predictive Control for Autonomous Vehicle Steering

With the development of autonomous driving technology, there are increasing demands for vehicle control, and MPC has become a widely researched topic in both industry and academia. Existing MPC control methods based on vehicle kinematics or dynamics have challenges such as difficult modeling, numerous parameters, strong nonlinearity, and high computational cost. To address these issues, this paper adapts an existing Data-driven MPC control method and applies it to autonomous vehicle steering control. This method avoids the need for complex vehicle system modeling and achieves trajectory tracking with relatively low computational time and small errors. We validate the control effectiveness of the algorithm in specific scenario through CarSim-Simulink simulation and perform comparative analysis with PID and vehicle kinematics MPC, confirming the feasibility and superiority of it for vehicle steering control.
