A distributed semismooth Newton based augmented Lagrangian method for distributed optimization

This paper proposes a novel distributed semismooth Newton based augmented Lagrangian method for solving a class of optimization problems over networks, where the global objective is defined as the sum of locally held cost functions, and communication is restricted to neighboring agents. Specifically, we employ the augmented Lagrangian method to solve an equivalently reformulated constrained version of the original problem. Each resulting subproblem is solved inexactly via a distributed semismooth Newton method. By fully leveraging the structure of the generalized Hessian, a distributed accelerated proximal gradient method is proposed to compute the Newton direction efficiently, eliminating the need to communicate with full Hessian matrices. Theoretical results are also obtained to guarantee the convergence of the proposed algorithm. Numerical experiments demonstrate the efficiency and superiority of our algorithm compared to state-of-the-art distributed algorithms.

Quantum separability criteria from bipartite systems to multipartite systems based on generalized Bloch representation

Quantum entanglement serves as a fundamental resource in quantum information theory. This paper presents a comprehensive framework of separability criteria for detecting bipartite and multipartite entanglements. We construct a novel parameterized extended correlation tensor via the generalized Bloch representation under an arbitrary orthogonal basis, which improves the performance of entanglement detection. Moreover, we employ the generalized matrix unfolding to generalize the extended correlation tensor construction to multipartite systems, obtaining separability criteria for multipartite entanglement. Detailed examples demonstrate that our separability criteria exhibit enhanced capability in detecting entanglement.

An efficient numerical method for a time-fractional diffusion equation

A reaction-diffusion problem with a Caputo time derivative is considered. An integral discretization scheme on a graded mesh along with a decomposition of the exact solution is proposed. The truncation error estimate of the discretization scheme is derived by using the remainder formula of the linear interpolation and some inequality estimate techniques. It is proved that the scheme is second-order convergent by applying a difference analogue of Gronwall's inequality, which exhibits an enhancement in the convergence rate compared with the L1 schemes. Numerical experiments are presented to support the theoretical result.

Geometric measure of entanglement for pure multipartite states

We provide methods for computing the geometric measure of entanglement for two families of pure states with both experimental and theoretical interests: symmetric multiqubit states with non-negative amplitudes in the Dicke basis and symmetric three-qubit states. In addition, we study the geometric measure of pure three-qubit states systematically in virtue of a canonical form of their two-qubit reduced states, and derive analytical formulae for a three-parameter family of three-qubit states. Based on this result, we further show that the W state is the maximally entangled three-qubit state with respect to the geometric measure.
