Landis' conjecture: a survey

We survey Kondrat'ev--Landis' conjecture, providing an up-to-date account of the main advances and describing the techniques developed. We complement the overview with references and formulations of the problem in further closely connected contexts.

A theorem concerning Fourier transforms: A survey

In this note, we highlight the impact of the paper G. H. Hardy, A theorem concerning Fourier transforms, J. Lond. Math. Soc. (1) 8 (1933), 227--231 in the community of harmonic analysis in the last 90 years, reviewing, on the one hand, the direct generalizations of the main results and, on the other, the different connections to related areas and new perspectives.

On the Three Balls Inequality for Discrete Schr{ö}dinger Operators on Certain Periodic Graphs

We investigate quantitative unique continuation properties for discrete magnetic Schr{ö}dinger operators in certain periodic graphs. This unique continuation property will be quantified through what is known in the literature as a Three Balls Inequality. We are able to extend this inequality to another family of periodic graph which contains the Hexagonal lattice. We also give a sketch of the proof for general star periodic graph. Our proofs are based on Carleman estimates.

Landis-type results for discrete equations

We prove Landis-type results for both the semidiscrete heat and the stationary discrete Schrödinger equations. For the semidiscrete heat equation we show that, under the assumption of two-time spatial decay conditions on the solution $u$, then necessarily $u\equiv 0$. For the stationary discrete Schrödinger equation we deduce that, under a vanishing condition at infinity on the solution $u$, then $u\equiv 0$. In order to obtain such results, we demonstrate suitable quantitative upper and lower estimates for the $L^2$-norm of the solution within a spatial lattice $(h\mathbb{Z})^d$. These estimates manifest an interpolation phenomenon between continuum and discrete scales, showing that close-to-continuum and purely discrete regimes are different in nature.

Dynamical versions of Hardy's uncertainty principle: A survey

The Hardy uncertainty principle says that no function is better localized together with its Fourier transform than the Gaussian. The textbook proof of the result, as well as one of the original proofs by Hardy, refers to the Phragmén-Lindelöf theorem. In this note we first describe the connection of the Hardy uncertainty to the Schrödinger equation, and give a new proof of Hardy's result which is based on this connection and the Liouville theorem. The proof is related to the second proof of Hardy, which has been underservedly forgotten. Then we survey the recent results on dynamical versions of Hardy's theorem.

On (Global) Unique Continuation Properties of the Fractional Discrete Laplacian

We study various qualitative and quantitative (global) unique continuation properties for the fractional discrete Laplacian. We show that while the fractional Laplacian enjoys striking rigidity properties in the form of (global) unique continuation properties, the fractional discrete Laplacian does not enjoy these in general. While discretization thus counteracts the strong rigidity properties of the continuum fractional Laplacian, by discussing quantitative forms of unique continuation, we illustrate that these properties can be recovered if exponentially small (in the lattice size) correction terms are added. This in particular allows us to deduce uniform stability properties for a discrete, linear inverse problem for the fractional Laplacian. We complement these observations with a transference principle and the discussion of these properties on the discrete torus.

Discrete Carleman estimates and three balls inequalities

We prove logarithmic convexity estimates and three balls inequalities for discrete magnetic Schrödinger operators. These quantitatively connect the discrete setting in which the unique continuation property fails and the continuum setting in which the unique continuation property is known to hold under suitable regularity assumptions. As a key auxiliary result which might be of independent interest we present a Carleman estimate for these discrete operators.

Hardy uniqueness principle for the linear Schrodinger equation on quantum regular trees

In this paper we consider the linear Schrodinger equation (LSE) on a regular tree with the last generation of edges of infinite length and analyze some unique continuation properties. The first part of the paper deals with the LSE on the real line with a piece-wise constant coefficient and uses this result in the context of regular trees. The second part treats the case of a LSE with a real potential in the framework of a star-shaped graph.

An uncertainty principle for solutions of the Schr{ö}dinger equation on H-type groups

In this paper we consider uncertainty principles for solutions of certain PDEs on H-type groups. We first prove that, contrary to the euclidean setting, the heat kernel on H-type groups is not characterized as the only solution of the heat equation that has sharp decay at 2 different times. We then prove the analogue of Hardy's Uncertainty Principle for solutions of the Schr{ö}dinger equation with potential on H-type groups. This extends the free case considered by Ben Saïd, Dogga and Thangavelu [BTD] and by Ludwig and M{ü}ller [LM].

Convexity Properties of Discrete Schrödinger evolutions and Hardy's Uncertainty Principle

In this paper we give log-convexity properties for solutions to discrete Schrödinger equations with different discrete versions of Gaussian decay at two different times. For free evolutions, we use complex analysis arguments to derive these properties, while in a perturbative setting we use a preliminar log-convexity result in order to get these properties. Then, by proving a Carleman inequality we conclude, in one of the cases under study, a discrete version of Hardy's Uncertainty Principle.

A discrete Hardy's Uncertainty Principle and discrete evolutions

In this paper we give a discrete version of Hardy's uncertainty principle, by using complex variable arguments, as in the classical proof of Hardy's principle. Moreover, we give an interpretation of this principle in terms of decaying solutions to the discrete Schrödinger and heat equations.

Discrete Uncertainty Principles and Virial Identities

In this paper we review the Heisenberg uncertainty principle in a discrete setting and, as in the classical uncertainty principle, we give it a dynamical sense related to the discrete Schrödinger equation. We study the convergence of the relation to the classical uncertainty principle, and, as a counterpart, we also obtain another discrete uncertainty relation that does not have an analogous form in the continuous case. Moreover, in the case of the Discrete Fourier Transform, we give a inequality that allows us to relate the minimizer to the Gaussian.
